** 3. - Version History **
**==================================**=======================================**
*******************************************************************************

Version 2.9 - Yes! It's back from the dead!
- Changed an assload of grammar...
- Deleted sections 15, 6 and 19 as they are all just
pointless filler.
- Changed the width from 69 characters to 79.
- Also deleted the review
- Changed all section dividers.
- Lost 2kb from that update...

Final Version - I've had enough. It is getting annoying just updating with
errors. By now, I'm sure I've looked over it enough. If there
is another update, it will be big. It won't be for a while
though. Thanks to anyone who has helped in this FAQ, anyway.

Version 2.81 - Edited a lot. It seems that this document is getting ludicrously
large, so, if the two previously mentioned sections aren't
finished by the time this document hits the 150KB mark, I will
have to do a quick final version. At the moment, it is at 135KB.

Version 2.79 - Did a lot of editing, though it was mainly to do with format and
stuff.
- Changed the format of the Other Characters section, and changed
the order they are displayed in. Added Charles L. Charles to it,
too :).
*- By the way, this FAQ is almost complete, bar two sections which
the final version, so if you want to contribute anything, or
make a suggestion, hurry!

Version 2.77 - Oh Holy God. I realised that my EFMI ASCII Art was complete
rubbish, so I've gone and deleted it... That should happily take
two or three KB off the guide...
- It seems that due to other updating done, I have accidentally
added two more KBs on... Curses...
- I edited a few parts. Not too much.
- I made a new heading, which you can see at the top.
- Also, I have changed the numbers of some sections.

Version 2.74 - Added my alternative alias to the top of the page, and edited
the ASCII art also. I'm not really quite sure if I like this
one, so I may lose it in the next few weeks. It's been a while
since I've updated. Also, if I may bring it to your attention I
have a new Secret of Monkey Island FAQ/Walkthrough up. I
encourage you all to take a look at it on GameFAQs.com

Version 2.72 - Added a few more questions to the FAQ section.
- Edited some more parts of the FAQ, mainly the Cut-Scenes
section.

Version 2.7 - Did a bit more editing. Once I get a few more sites for the
sites section, this FAQ will be pretty much finished.
- I've added a new 'Save Game' part to the walkthrough. Basically,
it's just advising you on when to save the game during play.
- Added the 'Game Advice' section. You can tell what it is, I'm
sure...
- I have added 2 MI2 Stories... I had none until now... thanks to
DarkCloud and André Stern, anyway. Also added another version of
the SoMI story, again by Andre Stern.
- Added the large ASCII text, too.
- Added my MSN and AIM usernames to the top of the FAQ.
- Added the date of this FAQ's creation to the top of the page.

Version 2.55 - You probably won't notice anything new in this latest update, as
most of what I've done is barely noticeable.
- By the way, there is a new FAQ rating system on GameFAQs... I'm
not telling you to vote, just asking you politely: if you have
found this guide useful, then please vote yes... otherwise, vote
no.

Version 2.53 - Changed a random section slightly.
- By now, I have almost finished the "quotes" section.
- Moved the FAQ section to no. 10.

Version 2.48 - Changed the format a bit.
- Added a question or two to the Frequently Asked Questions
section.
- Edited many sections.
- Added a thanks

Version 2.42 - Changed my contributor name to my new one, TimmyTheRabidTurtle.
- I've added the Frequently Asked Questions section.
- Fixed many errors and grammar problems.
- Added E-Mail Policy section.
- Re-worded a few parts.

Version 2.26 - I've added the MI1 story, thanks to Leyginaire@cs.com
- Did a full grammar and spell check.
- Updated the "Thanks" section.

Version 2.22 - I added another 3 quotes. I'm not even close to getting through
the whole game yet...

Version 2.2 - I added 2 quotes and a little message to the end of the "Quotes"
section
- Added the Monkey Island Help Sites Section. You are welcome to
submit a web site to the list, via my e-mail address. It can be
any site that you think is good, but is not on the list, or it
can be your own Website.
- Did a lot of editing on the way the document is displayed.

Version 2.09 - I revised a few sections and edited them, which I can't actually
remember at the moment.

Version 2.07 - Did a full spelling/grammar check. I need some help with the
Monkey Island series story. I need CMI, SoMI and MI2. Anyone
who helps will be thanked immensely and their help will be
recorded in the thanks section.

Version 2.05 - The Monkey Island Series story is added though it is not close
to being finished. I appeal to any of you to help me out with
the section.

Version 2.0 - Added the Game Info. section.

Version 1.9 - Added a review of the game.
- I'm finished the first Act in looking for quotes. I never get
time during the day to play though.

Version 1.8 - Added the quotes section and I'm planning on going through the
whole game looking for some good quotes. I've got as far as
talking with Carla and Otis.
- Added someone to the thanks section.
- Added the Escape from monkey island story.

Version 1.7 - Made the FAQ Info. part at the top into a section.
- I have added the 'Quotes' Section but there is yet something to
go in there. I will start it soon.
- I quickly skimmed the FAQ in search of errors
- I changed the order of the FAQ slightly. The Main Menu section
is now number 10, instead of 8.

Version 1.6 - The Monkey Kombat section is finally up. It might be kinda
confusing though.
- I have finally done a full spelling/grammar check.
- I changed the top slightly

Version 1.5 - Added Stan to the Characters section
- Added JoJo Jr. to the not-so-main-characters section.
- Added the large Text at the top of the page.
- Added the History of the MI games section
- Edited some of the FAQ/Walkthrough
- Changed the Version History section so it looks like this.

Version 1.4 - Added some more Characters and a link to the
- Monkey Kombat FAQ on GameFAQs.com.
- I have finished the Insults section.
- Added the Places of Interest section.

Version 1.25 - Added the 'Main Menu' section.

Version 1.2 - Fixed a few errors/
- Added a short note at the bottom.
- Took out the details of cut-scenes in the walkthrough and put in
their numbers
- Added the 'Not-so-main characters' section though it is still
unfinished.

Version 1.0 - Added the full walkthrough (apart from Monkey Kombat)
- Added the main characters section
- Added the cut-scenes section
- Added the Copyright Info. Section.

** 4. - Intro **
**==================================**=======================================**
*******************************************************************************

You, Guybrush Threepwood, Mightiest Pirate ever, are just back from your 3-
month honeymoon with your newlywed, Elaine Marley-Threepwood, who is the
Governor of the pirate island, Mélée Island, in the Tri-Island area. When you
get back, you discover that due to the prolonged honeymoon, Elaine was declared
"Dead at sea". You also discover that your mansion is contracted to be
destroyed by Mélée Island city hall. Dammit, I hate when that happens. You'd
think that they'd give her a call or something, but noooooo - I want to declare
someone dead, just for the hell of it! Well excuse me, buster, you can't go
around destroying people's mansions and declaring the occupants dead! It's just
not right!......... Ok, I'm done with that rant. Anywho, you have to go to
Lucre Island to talk with your wife's lawyers to get everything straightened
out, with hilarious consequences, and sexy results! (The Simpson's and Sabrina
The Teenage Witch jokes only).

Anyway, Escape From Monkey Island is the latest (at the time of writing) game
in the legendary LucasArts adventure series of Monkey Island. I wrote this
guide because I did not feel the other guides were complete enough, nor did
they completely cover all aspects of the game.

** 6. - Walkthrough **
**==================================**=======================================**
*******************************************************************************

[Cut-Scene 1]

Okay then, on with the Walkthrough: You will be stranded and tied to a pole in
the middle of Elaine's pirate ship with a vicious pirate battle ensuing all
around you. You must help Elaine win the battle and fend off the attacker(s).
Use the brazier of hot coals. Pick Up the hot coals. Kick it at the loaded
cannon, which is the cannon on the right.

[Cut-Scene - 2]

[Cut Scene - 3]

**------------------------------------**-------------------------------------**
** ACT I - THING TO DO ON MELEE ISLAND WHEN YOU'RE DEAD **
**------------------------------------**-------------------------------------**

[Save Game]

Talk to the catapult operator and tell him to stop firing boulders at your
house. Ask him what would it take to stop firing boulders. Ask him what are the
numbers he is muttering. Stop talking to him and go to the Méleé Island town.
Enter the SCUMM Bar... your grog-home for so long (*sniff*). Go to the top of
the bar.

Talk to the drunken pirate and ask if you can have his pretzels. Look at the
balloon. Go back towards the door and talk to the Short Dart Player. He says
they're busy. You say: "Yeah! Busy making holes!" Ask why there are so many
holes in the wall. Keep asking to hit different stuff until the option of
telling him to hit the balloon comes up. Stop talking to them and go to the
Drunken Pirate again. Steal his kudu-jerky pretzels. Hee-hee, we're so evil!
Leave the bar.

Go further up the town and Talk to the Familiar Looking Pirates. Tell them they
look awfully familiar. Ask them if we shared a cruise to Monkey Island before.
They turn out to be Carla, the sword-master and Otis, the petty thief (But then
again you already knew that, didn't you _). Ask them to join you're crew. Say
that you will give them cushy Government jobs. Leave and go to the harbour.

Pick Up the popped inner tube. Leave and go back to the mansion. Go to the
front door. Use the popped Inner Tube with the funny-looking cactus. Go back to
the catapult operator and offer him some pretzels. Tinker with the controls of
the catapult. He will try to hit the cactus and the boulder will rebound and
knock the catapult off the cliff.

You discover that Elaine was declared 'Dead At Sea' and will have to run for
election again to retain the title of Governor and will be running against the
mysterious Charles L. Charles. You have to go to Lucre Island to talk to the
Marley family lawyers.

Go to Méleé Island town and go to the Scumm Bar. Go to the top of the bar talk
to the crusty pirate (I. Cheese) Ask him to join your crew. Tell him your going
to Lucre Island. Ask him why he won't go. Ask him why he thinks the Scumm Bar
will be stolen. Ask him about Insult Arm Wrestling. Ask him if he can be
persuaded to go to Lucre Island. Say: "If I beat you at Insult arm wrestling
will you join my crew?" You now have to beat Ignatius Cheese in a match of
insult arm wrestling. Go to the Insults section if you want a bit of help on
the subject. But I prefer to do it myself. When you beat him you have the first
person of your crew.

Leave and go to the Governor's Mansion. Enter the mansion and go to the side
opposite Elaine. Go to the not-so-fine china cabinet. Pick Up the government
paper. Go to the side Elaine is on. Give it to Elaine and she will sign it. You
can pick up the government paper beside Elaine if you want, but you don't
actually need it to finish the game. Talk to Elaine and say you are having
trouble getting a ship. Say you don't have the authority to requisition one.
She gives you the gubernatorial seel of Méleé Island. Leave the Mansion and go
to Méleé Island town.

[Save Game]

Go to where Carla and Otis are. Give them the 'cushy government job contract'.
You now have a crew. Leave and go to the harbour. Give the gubernatorial seel
of Méleé Island to the Lady of Leisure.
Now you have a ship and crew so you can leave the island.

Lucre Island: Leave the ship and go to the steps on the right. You should end
up near the Bait Shoppe. Pick Up the duck. Walk to the left of the Bait Shoppe.
Continue to your left once you get to the next part of the town. Enter the Law
Offices. You will automatically talk to the lawyers. Afterwards they give you a
letter for Elaine from her father, H.T. Marley. Go to the bank. Look at the
letter and talk to the bank teller, Brittany. Tell her you want to make a
withdrawal from your safe deposit box.

[Cut-Scene - 4]

Pick Up the handkerchief, the large sponge, medium sponge, small sponge and the
old sword. Look in the safe deposit box. Pick Up the music box and Pick up the
bottle of fine grog. Use the old sword with the bottom hinge. Use the old
broken sword with the crack. Use the small, medium and large sea sponges with
the 'crack with old broken sword jammed in it'. Use the bottle of fine grog
with the crack. Crikey! Freedom! This would feel so much better if I wasn't
about to be arrested...

You now have to find the perpetrator (who stole the heirlooms), the loot (the
heirlooms) and find proof that he was at the scene of the crime.

Go over to the iron maiden and Pick Up the tin of chicken grease. Leave the
jail and go to the perfume stall on the left of the screen. Pick Up one of the
empty spritzer bottles, and Pick Up the cologne. Go to the bank. Use the broken
sword on the manhole. Pick up the manhole cover. Look at the cover. Take note
of the names on it and go to the Palace Of Prostheses beside the bank.

Talk to the guy inside with two eye patches (Deadeye Dave). Say you want some
gifts for your friends. Ask if he has anything for free. First of all, choose
the names that were on the manhole cover. You get prosthetic skin (!). If you
want, you can choose different combinations of names so you can get different
body parts. The different parts you can get are, a foot, liver, intestines
(guts), heart, butt, stomach and a head. If you join them all together you get
an 'Abomination of Nature'. You don't actually need it for any part of the
game, but it's fun.

Take out the music box and play it for Dave. While it is still playing go over
to the basket of prostheses (It has a red hand in it) and pick up the wooden
hand. Pick up the music box. Take out the handkerchief and use it with Deadeye
Dave. Leave. Go to the bait Shoppe. GO inside and pick up the free bait. Take
out the wooden hand and use it with the termite circus. Leave and go to the
bank. Use the prosthetic skin with the manhole. Use the 'manhole with
prosthetic skin stretched over it'. You will find yourself in the bank. No,
you're not allowed steal from it...(again, *wink wink*).

Once inside, climb the ladder and use the pull chain and walk over to the table
and Pick Up the ScupperWare container. Climb back up the ladder, and look at
the funny shadow. You will find a nose. The guard will come in and take the
nose off you. Exit through the window.

[Save Game]

Go to where you find two people playing chess (go back to the ship and look up
along the harbour if you can't find it) Talk to the portly guy. Say 'um...' Tell
him that his friend looks awfully focussed. Stop talking to him and talk to the
skinny guy. Say 'Um...' again and say something like 'Hey! Brittany'. Keep
distracting the two of them until they get into a fight. Pick Up the clock when
they do.

Go to 'The House of Sticks'. After about 10 seconds or so Ozzie Mandrel will
come in and get his new stick. Pick Up the wood shavings after he leaves. Exit
the town and go to the foreboding mansion. Pick Up the flower that is near the
scary fountain. Go to the misty swamp. Use the free bait with the empty
spritzer bottle. Use the flower and wood shavings with the homemade perfume.
Take out the perfume and Use it with the puddle. Leave the swamp and go to the
town and then go to Deadeye Dave's shop again.

Use the Pegnose Pete scented perfume with Deadeye Dave. He will say something
like " Of course I know that smell seeing as, [Insert Name Here], is my best
customer" Take note of the name he says. Use the controls of the file
retrieving system. There are 3 parts to the name and you have to change the
controls to suite the name that Deadeye said.

The Bunny = A-D
The Palm Tree = E-H
The Pumpkin = I-M
The Monkey = N-S
The Banana = T-Z

You should write the name down just to be certain. Anywho, you should get the
directions if you do it right. Exit the shop and go to the Mystes O' Tyme. Use
the clock with the raft. This is the part of the game I hate : I really,
REALLY, hate it. *sighs*

Look at the directions and write down what down the times and the letters after
them, so you won't have to keep checking back and forth. Use the raft. Paddle
around until you see a time that is the same as the times on the directions, on
the clock on the bottom right corner of the screen (kinda confusing, ain't I?)
E.G. If it says '12:10 W' on the directions and it says 12:10 on the clock on
the bottom right, then paddle to the West. Simple. But it gets worse!

After a while of finding the right times you will run into a gate and another
Guybrush will say "Hey Guybrush! I need your help." He will give you a rope,
gun, key and a chicken with a pulley in the middle. Remember the order he gives
them to you in. You will ask him a question and he will answer. Remember the
answer. When you open the gate, he will go through and you go through to the
other side. After a while you will find the exact same situation again, only
with you as the other Guybrush. You have to do the EXACT same things that the
other Guybrush did, otherwise the space-time continuum will open up and you
will go back to the start.

After a while you will see a house and if you go close to the door, you will
hear people talking. It is Ozzie Mandrel and Pegnose Pete. After Ozzie leaves,
use the tin of chicken grease on the welcome mat and use the duck with the
window. Pegnose will come running out and will slip on the grease and fall into
the cage-like-item. You bring him back to the jail.

[Cut-Scene - 5]

[Save Game]

Exit the jail and go to the Bait Shoppe. Go inside, get more bait and then
leave. Go to Ozzie's mansion (foreboding mansion). Talk to him for a while and
Use the Eau De LeChuck on Ozzie's Platypus in front of him. He will break his
cane in half (Apparently Accidentally) and then he will leave to get a new one.
Leave the mansion and go to the House of Sticks. Use the termite infested
prosthetic hand on Mr. Mandrel's cane. He will come and take it, leaving a
trail of wood shavings on the ground. Go back to Ozzie's mansion. Talk to him
and say "Hey you're the guy who hired Pegnose Pete to frame me for robbing the
bank!" He should leave after a while and when he does, follow him.

Follow Ozzie and the trail until he goes onto a small peninsula. After he
leaves the peninsula go onto it. Go around the back of the trees and you will
find a secret passage after a while. Climb down the passage and press the
button on the table. You will see the Marley heirlooms.

Climb back up the ladder and go to the water's edge until it says 'Dive into
deep water' Press Enter and Guybrush will jump in. Use the bait with the
ScupperWare container, wait until the glowing fish are near by and then open
the container. Once of the fish should go in and then you have light. Go into
the secret door.

Pick Up the Marley Family Heirlooms. Pick up the tiny screw. Go back to the
town and then go into the jail. Give the itty-bitty screw to Inspector Canard

[Cut Scene - 6]

You and your crew will then leave Lucre Island.

[Cut-Scene - 7]

**------------------------------------**-------------------------------------**
** ACT II - EMTER THE MANATEE **
**------------------------------------**-------------------------------------**

So now, that you know Charles L. Charles is really that heinous LeChuck him...
But How?

[Save Game]

First, after finishing talking to Elaine, leave the mansion and go to Mêlée
Town. Go to the house with the torches hung all over it (International House of
Mojo). Go inside and walk over to the hand-shaped table. Use the finger. The
Voodoo lady should come out of the mirror. Talk to her and ask her about the
ultimate insult. Ask what it is, where to find it and how do you make it. Stop
talking about the Ultimate Insult and then ask about the connection between the
Marley Family Heirlooms and the Ultimate Insult. Ask what you have to do with
the wedding presents. Stop talking to her and go to the harbour.

Go to the grog machine at the front of the harbour. Look at the change return
slot. Pick Up the quarter. Use the quarter with the grog machine. Kick the
machine, Punch the machine, shake the machine and finally, yell at the machine.
Pick Up the cans of grog. Go to your ship, The Dainty Lady, and use the
earrings with the strange figurehead. Use the necklace with the figurehead and,
finally, use the pen on a chain with the figurehead. Leave the harbour and go
to the large house at the top right of the screen (Meathook's house). Enter
Meathook's house, via his new bridge... I've always liked the old "Rubber
Chicken with a pulley in the middle" method or getting across...

Disturb Meathook. Ask about the Ultimate Insult. Say you're looking for the
4th wedding present. Ask what the candles are for. You can talk to him about
other stuff if you want to find out what happened to him after Monkey Island 1,
if you have played it before, and want to 'Catch up on old times', but that
won't be included in this Walkthrough. Pick Up the paintbrush in the bucket.
Leave Meathook's and go to the town. Go to where the SCUMM bar is. It is now
the 'Lua Bar', thanks to Ozzie Mandrel. That evil bastard, he's ruined all of
our lives...

Enter the Lua Bar. Go to where there are 2 people eating, just before the
bridge. Pick up the chopsticks. Go to the bottom right of the screen (near the
picture) and sit down on one of the barstools. Talk to the waitress. Ask if you
can order. Ask for something that has been cooked. She will recommend to you
the flaming scuttlefish. Ask for that. Stop talking to her and then take out
Meathook's paintbrush. The objective is to get the flaming scuttlefish in front
of the wax painting. To do that, jam the paintbrush in the sushi boat
propulsion contraption. Make sure you time it right.

Once you have the flames in front of the painting, the chef will come down to
see what has stopped the boats from moving. Go to the top of the bar/restaurant
and walk into the kitchen. Walk over to the thing that looks like a furnace.
Use the bottle of grog with the steam generator (It looks like a little hatch
on the pipe of the furnace)

[Cut Scene - 8]

[Save Game]

Exit the bar and go to the harbour. Pick up another can of grog. Go to your
ship and Use the fourth wedding present with the figurehead. The pen around her
neck should write an 'X' over Jambalaya Island. This is where you have to go.
The Ultimate Insult is a Bronze hat, Silver monkey head and a golden man. Give
Elaine the gubernatorial symbol of Mêlée Island. Insert Disc 2 and be on your
merry way.

Jambalaya Island: You land on Jambalaya Island, apparently your average Pirate
town, though currently a victim of Ozzie Mandrel's take over. That damn Ozzie!
You'd think he'd have more sense than to meddle with Guybrush Threepwood... he
doesn't, though... heh... stupid jackass...

Leave the harbour and go to the main part of the town. Talk to the strange
skull, Murray, outside Planet Threepwood, just because he is funny though. You
don't actually have to, but I just think he is so cool. He should get his own
TV show and/or game. He looked better in MI3 though, ads he's a little to
white, and a little more evil. Go to the Starbuccaneer's Coffee Shop and, just
before you go in, go up very close to the window and look at the empty
groggaccino cup. Go inside and go up really close to the flower/plant near the
windows. You should be able to find the groggaccino cup there. Pick it up.

Go to the fat tourist in the middle of the shop. Look At her shopping bag and
Pick up the Starbuccaneer's mug. Give the empty groggaccino cup to the counter
clerk. Ask for a refill and you now have some groggaccino. Excellent. Pick up a
mini-bagel from the tray on the counter. Exit the coffee shop and exit the
town.

[Save Game]

Go to the gaudy house (Stan's time-share emporium). Go to the door and pick up
the pot o' glue, which is sitting slightly to the left of the door. Talk to the
salesman behind the desk (Stan). Ask about the pamphlets. Say, "You're hawking
real estate now?" Stop talking to him and drink the groggaccino and quickly
talk to Stan. Get him to give you his entire pitch. Leave the vicinity of the
house, and go to Jambalaya Island town.

Go to the Micro Groggery. Go inside and use the jar o' glue on the strange
contraption (a manatee). Talk to the bartender. Ask about the thing with the
saddle. Ask what it's in here for. Ask if you can take a crack at riding the
manatee. The glue helps you to stick on so you end up winning. You get a monkey
mug meal at Planet Threepwood for winning. Lucky You. Talk to the bartender and
ask for a drink. He won't let you have straight grog, so he gives you 'Grog-
Lite'. Take the drink and stop talking to the bartender. Before you leave, you
will see Carla in a drunken state, slouched over the bar. Leave the bar and go
to Planet Threepwood.

Talk to the waitress. Say you are ready to order. Ask for any combination of
food. Go sit down, and talk to the Jolly Pirate. When he asks you if you want a
characature Say "Sure, why not". Say anything you want until you get your
characature. Use the jar o' glue with the characature and use the characature
with the Starbuccaneer's Mug. Switch (Use) the Fake mug with the real mug.
Leave the restaurant. Eat the mini bagel you got from Starbuccaneer's.

Go to the statue in the middle of town. Look at the plaque. Talk to the
tourist. Ask if he knows anything about the Ultimate Insult. Say one of the
pieces looks like a bronze pirate hat. Say, "That's a great Ensemble." Ask what
he is doing. Ask about the top of the statue. Stop talking to him.

Go to the harbour and use the rowboat next to your ship. Row to the ship beside
Knuttin Atoll. He will fire a shot from his cannon at you. You can talk to
Admiral Casaba a bit more if you want a little background information. Leave
Casaba. Row to the non-rocky beach of Knuttin Atoll.

Go to the colourful hut (puppet theatre). Talk to Little LeChuck. Talk about
everything until he says "Look Over There" You will be let talk to Little
Guybrush. Ask Little Guybrush if you can talk to the puppeteer. Ask him again.
Ask him anything until you can say something about the Ultimate Insult. Stop
talking to him and show him the picture of the Ultimate Insult. He will be
scared and will run away. Pick UP the Guybrush and LeChuck puppets.

Go to the white and blue building at the top of the island (school). Talk to
the woman by the door. Say that it is a strange place for a school. Ask to sign
up for the classes. You will see the start of the classes taking place. At the
end you have to pass an exam, which makes up for 90% of your grade. Answer all
the questions like a pirate and she will give you a 'dunce' cap and send you
outside. Take off the cap and keep it.

[Save Game]

Use the fire alarm at the right-hand side of the school, and then run back
inside the school. Go to the treasure chest of pirate-y items and Pick Up the
whistle. Miss. Rivers will probably catch you. Go to the path along the coast
of the sea, going to the right. Walk along it until you go into a clearing with
two other pirates. One of them will run off and Admiral Casaba will fire a shot
from his cannon again.

Talk to the fat guy in the clearing. Say that he is awfully large. Say you are
looking for the Ultimate Insult. Ask if he is related to Tiny LaFeet. Say you
want to talk about his father. Ask if he was really called 'Tiny the Friendly
Pirate'. Say something along the lines of "If you're father was such a great
pirate..." Ask about the statue. Ask where he buried the Bronze hat. Ask if you
can keep it if you find it. Ask about his parrots and then stop talking to
Jambeaux.

[Cut-Scene - 9]

Go off the right of the map and you will find a boulder. Use the whistle
(Parrot call). The parrots will come down and land on the rock. Give one of
them the wimpy grog. Ask the other one a question you know the answer to. So
now you know which one tells the truth and which one lies. Ask the truth-
telling parrot which way should you go to find Tiny's hat.
Go in the direction he told you to go and when you get to that boulder, use the
parrot call and ask the truth-telling parrot which way to go to find the hat.
Repeat until he says "Nowhere" You know that Tiny's hat is under that rock.
Take out little Guybrush and Little LeChuck. Start a fight between the two of
them. Eventually, the admiral will hear them fighting and will send out the
"relleh' big cannon".

[Cut-Scene - 10]

[Save Game]

Leave and go to Jambalaya Island. Exit the Jambalaya Island town and walk down
the path to the Tall Rock. Talk to the guy in the black and white striped
swimsuit (Marco DePollo). Ask how he got into diving. Ask if he stills dives
into piles of children. Ask if the competition is open to anyone. Ask if you
can dive against him. Stop talking to him, and use the half-eaten bagel with
the bottle of baby oil. Go into the changing tent and Use it (The Changing
Tent).

Run along the plank that runs towards the front of the screen. Talk to the
judges. Ask to dive against DePollo. You will get a physical test and pass it.
Go back towards the changing tent and Talk to DePollo. Ask to dive against him.
When you get to the top of the rock, Just move towards the plank and dive
straight in.

Go to the judges and talk to the hippie judge. Ask what was wrong with your
last dive. Write what he says down; it's usually this:

Keelhaul - UP
Rum Barrel - DOWN
Spinning Swordsman - RIGHT
Alpha Monkey - LEFT

When one of the judges announces one of DePollo's dives, you must copy them to
please the Hippie judge. Talk to the judge on the left (Grouchy judge). Ask why
he gives you such low scores. Stop talking to him and look at your inventory.
Look At the pamphlet. Give the pamphlet to the grouchy judge. Now ask DePollo
for a shot at diving against him again. Make sure you write down what moves
DePollo does so you can copy them.

When you get to the top of the plank, wear your 'dunce' cap. Start to move on
to the plank and type in the moves that DePollo did. If you did it right, You
will get a 10/10 out of all the judges which makes you draw against him. You
will have to dive again to win the match. Do any dive and you will get a 10/10.
When Marco DePollo goes to dive seagulls will start pecking at him and he will
fall in to the water. You now have all the pieces to the Ultimate Insult.

[Save Game]

Run to the front of the screen to get off the beach. Go to the cluttered
clearing. Go to the little shack and pick up the coconut. Go to the little man
(Herman Toothrot). Stop talking to him. Go to the canyon and go to the cactus
at the front of the screen. Pick Up the banana picker. Go to the beach you
landed on at the start of this act. Pick Up the bunch of bananas 3 times so you
get the whole bunch.

Exit and go to vista point. When you get up, Pick up one of the rocks in the
pile. Throw it in the right canal. Pick Up another rock. When the first one
passes one of the branches and moves the branch slightly, throw another in.
When the next one passes a branch throw a rock into the left canal. When a rock
moves a branch again throw another in the left canal. That rock should land in
the lava field, forming a puddle. Go to the lava field and then exit it.

Go to the castle near the lava field. Enter the cathedral. Use the banana
picker on the shields above the door. Walk further into the cathedral and a
priest will appear. Say something about the lava flowing through the church.
Say "Funerals". Ask how it can fit into the ceremony. Ask if you can try it.
Ask again. You should be allowed to try it.

Ram into the logs so that you have a clear path to the milk bottle. When you
are near the bottle, Use the banana picker on it. Float into the puddle (you
might have to hold down a direction button to get in). Get out of the boat-
item. Run towards the left until you are beside a tree. Use the tree. Run
across it. Go to the beach.

Take out one of your bananas and give it to Timmy. He will follow you. Go to
the canyon. Give Timmy another banana. Go inside the mineshaft. Make sure Timmy
is with you and then go to the big metal door. Use the vent. Use a banana with
the vent. Close the vent (Use it). Use a banana with the portal. Timmy will be
so desperate to be getting a banana he will open the door. Enter the tube. Use
the banana picker with the weed whipper that is stuck in the strange machinery.
Crawl back into the big tube. Leave and go to the lava field.

[Save Game]

Go to the puddle that was made with the big boulder. Use the weed whipper with
the patch of weeds. Go across the bridge. Go to the village on the northeast
side of the island. Go to the monkey playing the accordion. Take out the
shields and Use them (Play them) the monkey drops his accordion and takes the
cymbals off you. Talk to the monkey wearing the bronze hat. Say something nice
about the hat. Ask what he means by 'Hat of honour'. Ask what Monkey Kombat is.
Ask how it works.

Go to the Monkey Kombat section for more information.

After you have beaten JoJo Jr., Go to the clearing where Herman Toothrot stays.
SAVE THE GAME. Throw the coconut, milk bottle and finally the accordion. You
might have to talk to him a bit in-between each item.

[Cut-Scene - 12]

You find out that Herman is actually H.T. Marley, the governor of Mêlée Island
and your Grandfather-in-law. Talk about everything until he asks you about the
gubernatorial seal of Mêlée Island.

[Save Game]

[Cut-Scene - 13]

Go to the Giant Monkey Head. Use the banana picker with the giant monkey's
nose. Use the bronze hat with the monkey head. Walk inside the mouth and up the

** ACT III+ - GUYBRUSH KICKS UNUSUALLY LARGE BUTT **
**------------------------------------**-------------------------------------**

Pick Up really big plank; Use it with the small tower. Climb Up the small
tower. Jump on the plank to springboard yourself up on to the large tower. Use
the big switch to deactivate the giant amplifier.

[Cut-Scene - 15]

You find yourself, still in the giant monkey robot, and in a battle versus the
statue of LeChuck, controlled by Ozzie Mandrel. The statue of LeChuck has
Elaine in his hand as well. All you have to do in Monkey Kombat against LeChuck
and Ozzie, is match Ozzie/LeChuck's moves three times, as it is impossible to
beat LeChuck or lose to him in the normal way. On the third time drawing,
Elaine will escape and LeChuck will fight the Ultimate Insult and end up
squishing Ozzie. Then, for some crazy, unknown reason, LeChuck explodes, and
thus ends the adventure for today.

[Cut-Scene - 16]

Congratulations, you have now completed Escape From Monkey Island! Now, finish
it again - This time, without the walkthrough.

**==================================**=======================================**
** 7. - Insult Arm-Wrestling **
**==================================**=======================================**
*******************************************************************************

This section of the guide was written for the insult arm-wrestling match you
have in the first part against Ignatius Cheese, the owner of the SCUMM bar. The
prize: If Guybrush wins, Mr. Cheese will be Guybrush's navigator. The match
itself isn't really hard if you have used the Monkey Island insult system
before, in The Secret of Monkey Island 1 and The Curse of Monkey Island. It may
take a few tries if you have never used it though. Basically you must insult
Mr. Cheese first and if he knows the comeback to that particular comeback, then
he wins that round. If you win 3 rounds more than Ignatius, you win the whole
contest. Likewise, if you lose 3 rounds more than him you lose the contest. You
will always have a chance to try to beat him again. The only problem
is.............. All the comebacks usually have to rhyme with the insult before
it. They're not really that picky in this game with it rhyming as much as they
were in Monkey Island 3, but if there is a rhyming comeback for a certain
insult available, then it would probably be wiser to choose that one, unless it
doesn't make sense.

The insults are written with before and after them for easy recommendation
purposes. Comebacks are written with a before and after them for the same
reason.

Example: Shut Up!
No, You shut up!

I know, that was a crap example. But it's the best I could think of that isn't
in the game.

Monkey Island 4 Insults:

Today, by myself, twelve people I've beaten.
From the size of your gut I'd guess they were eaten.

I've got muscles in places you've never even heard of.
It's too bad none of them are in your arms.

Give up now, or I'll crush you like a grape!
I would if it would stop your WINE-ING.

My 98-year-old grandmother has bigger arms than you do!
Yeah, but we both got better bladder control than you do.

I'm going to put your arm in a sling!
Why, ya studying to be a nurse?

My stupefying strength will shatter your ulna into a million
pieces!
I'm surprised you can count that high!

Hey, look over there!
Yeah, yeah I know: it's a three-headed monkey.

Your knuckles I'll grind to a splintery paste.
I thought that the been dip had a strange taste.

Your arms are no bigger than fleas that I've met!
So THAT'S why you're scratching. I'd go see a vet.

People consider my fists lethal weapons!
Sadly, your breath should be equally reckoned.

Only once have I met such a coward!
He must have taught you everything you know.

You're the ugliest creature I've ever seen in my life.
I'm shocked that you've never gazed at your wife.

My forearms have been mistaken for tree trunks!
An over-the-counter defoliant could help with that problem.

I've out-wrestled octopi with these arms!
I'm sure that spineless creatures everywhere are humbled by your might.

Do I see quivers of agony dance on your lip?
It's laughter that's caused by your feathery grip.

Of course, this part is only brief and is relatively easy.

XI - Meathook
XII - Murray
XIII - Marco DePollo
XIV - Stan
XV - JoJo Junior
XVI - Herman Toothrot

*I - Guybrush Threepwood:
Guybrush is the main character of the Monkey Island series. In our first
episode with Guybrush, he decides he wants to be a pirate. His simple quest
turns into him finding his current wife and his archenemy - LeChuck. Now he is
a hero and he even has his own themed restaurant - Planet Threepwood! One of
the few REAL pirates left in the world, sadly... (*Sniff*) Guybrush is a master
of Insult-Sword-fighting. Guybrush Always seems to end up on Monkey Island at
the end of adventures. Sadly, Guybrush lost in the first round of the
GameFAQs.com character battle.

*II - Elaine Marley-Threepwood:
Guybrush Threepwood's wife and the governor of Mélée Island. Great at politics
but, hounded by LeChuck to marry him. Damn I hate it when undead pirates try to
marry your wife. She usually has to stay at home while Guybrush goes
gallivanting around the tri-island area. Elaine's grandfather is the old
governor of Mélée Island, H.T. Marley. Elaine was declared dead at the start of
MI4 and her family's mansion was going to be destroyed by city hall. She lets
Guybrush uses the gubernatorial seel of Mélée Island to great effect during
Monkey Island 4.

*III - Ozzie Mandrel:
An Australian millionaire, planning to transform the Caribbean to a pirate-free
place of tourism. Guybrush must stop him to make sure the carefree days of grog
swilling and sword fighting live on. Damn that evil genius. Has LeChuck working
for him to help assemble the Ultimate Insult. Tried to take over the SCUMM Bar
but failed thanks to I. Cheese. He eventually won though. Owns such places as,
The Lua Bar, Planet Threepwood, Starbuccaneer's Café, the Micro Groggery and
numerous other shops/bars/restaurants. Ozzie also bribes the judges on
Jambalaya Island to make Marco DePollo win in plank diving.

*IV - LeChuck:
Evil. Undead. Demonic. Zombie. Ghost. Pirate. The designer and owner of the big
whoop amusement park on Monkey Island, LeChuck is the enemy of Guybrush and
even has a church dedicated to him. Its headquarters are on Monkey Island and a
ghostly priest, called Father Allegro Rasputin, runs the church. LeChuck is
working for Ozzie Mandrel in this game, on the condition that he will get
Elaine as his wife after Ozzie uses the Ultimate Insult on her. LeChuck is also
Charles L. Charles, who ran for election after Elaine was declared DEAD at sea
from the start of Escape From Monkey Island... and won!

*V - Otis:
Also from Mélée Island, Otis was a crook (If you count picking flowers as a
crime... and I do). He pretends that, he is a "Victim of Society", but he is a
really a double-crossing thief. Guybrush rescued him from jail so Otis joined
his crew to the Isle of Monkeys in SoMI. Otis is in Guybrush's crew in Monkey
Island 4. Otis is mentally scarred from the last time that he travelled to
Monkey Island, and plans never to return there.

*VI - Carla
Carla was originally from Mélée Island and was also part of Guybrush's original
crew destined for Monkey Island in Monkey Island 1. Guybrush had to beat her in
a sword fight in SoMI for one of the Three trials. She was stranded on Monkey
Island with Otis and Meathook after Guybrush left them there. She was in
Guybrush's crew in Monkey Island 4 after Guybrush bribed her and Otis with a
'cushy' government job.

*VII - The Voodoo Lady:
This mysterious woman seems to show up whenever Guybrush is in more trouble
than he can get himself out of. This powerful voodoo figure currently resides
in 'The International House of Mojo' on Mélée Island. Apparently, she has an
unbreakable five-game contract with LucasArts. She used to live in Puerto Pollo
in a sunken ship in a swamp, among other places...

*IV - Charles L. Charles:
In Escape From Monkey Island, Charles L. Charles is running against Elaine
Marley-Threepwood in the Mélée Island Governor election. There is something
mysterious about Charles, and it seems that he helped get rid of Elaine from
the governor's office. Charles promises to give the citizens of Mélée "Good
Times, and Free Grog!" as part of his campaign, although it is obviously
phoney.

*VIII - Pegnose Pete:
This infamous, no-nosed pirate framed Guybrush for stealing from the first bank
of Lucre Island and also framed him for stealing the Marley family heirlooms.
Our favourite no-nosed bandit, Pegnose works for Ozzie Mandrill and LeChuck and
is wanted by the Lucre Island police department (Inspector Canard) for many
(over two hundred) different crimes. He lives past the 'Mystes O' Tyme' Swamp.
Pegnose uses a TK-241 type prosthetic nose, which can be bought in Deadeye
Dave's prosthetic palace. Also, towards the end, the power of the Ultimate
Insult is used on him, and he commits suicide.

*IX - Inspector Canard:
Inspector Canard is the main detective on Lucre Island and seems to live (!) in
the jail on Lucre Island. He doesn't actually like Guybrush very much after
Pegnose Pete, disguised as Guybrush, and stole a lot of money and the Marley
Family Heirlooms from the second bank of Lucre Island. He deploys the 'Guilty
until proven innocent' trick a lot. He also Placed Otis in jail, again (Otis:
"I'm a victim of society!").

*X - Meathook:
Meathook is currently a strange artist with no hands. Meathook is currently
living on Mélée Island making wax pictures to sell. Was once asked to do a
painting by H.T. Marley, Governor of Mélée. Has a parrot that used to be
'tough' and does a really cool trick with the tattoo on his chest. Was also in
Guybrush's original crew to Monkey Island in Monkey Island 1.

*XI - Murray
Evilest. Scull. Ever. Murray is a talking scull with a quest to take over the
world. Was once a prize on Monkey Island in LeChuck's theme park. Now works as
a bouncer for the 'Planet Threepwood' corporation. Murray is the best addition
that was ever made in the Monkey Island series, in my opinion. Lost the rest of
his body when Guybrush blew it away.

*XII - Marco DePollo:
The world famous plank diver, Marco DePollo, is paid by Ozzie Mandrill to dive
on the tallest artificial diving plank in the world on Jambalaya Island. He was
influenced to dive by children chanting his name (they were actually playing a
game - the fact it was his name is a coincidence ^_^) Marco likes to put baby
seel oil on him before a dive. He wears a black and white striped swimsuit and
was beaten by Guybrush for his diving title, which was part of the Ultimate
Insult.

*XIII - Stan:
This energetic businessman, who seems to always wear a tartan suit, is
Guybrush's old friend from the days of Monkey Island 1. Stan has worked in many
different jobs including an insurance salesman, a ship salesman and this time,
a time-share company employee. In this episode of Monkey Island, Stan can be
found in the southeast of Jambalaya Island in the gaudy house. Currently, his
house is up for extermination.

*XIV - JoJo Junior:
JoJo Jr. was the Monkey Kombat champion before Guybrush became champ by beating
him. JoJo is the world's only talking monkey and can be found in the monkey
village on Monkey Island. JoJo is the son of JoJo Sr., whom Guybrush
accidentally killed in a previous adventure. He also helped, along with Herman
Toothrot, to pilot the huge, giant Monkey Robot to Mélée Island so Guybrush
could confront Ozzie and LeChuck.

*XV - Herman Toothrot:
The hermit of Monkey Island. Herman has helped Guybrush a bit in the past and
is still some help now. Washed up on the shores of Monkey Island when Ozzie
Mandrel knocked him out of his boat. He permanently lost his memory but
Guybrush cured him and now he remembers everything. *SPOILERS*: Herman is
actually your father-in-law, H.T. Marley, The old Governor of Monkey Island.
Herman is Elaine's grandfather.

** 9. - Cut-Scenes **
**==================================**=======================================**
*******************************************************************************

These Cut-Scenes can be viewed in the 'Cut-Scene' section of the main menu.
They are also viewed during gameplay when you reach that part of the game.

1. - 'Been There, Done That': Guybrush reflects on his life as a pirate into
his diary. From where it started, after washing up on Mélée Island, to his
last adventure of when he finally rid the world of LeChuck. After he is
done daydreaming, Elaine calls for him to help in an on going see battle.

2. - 'I Meant To Do That': Guybrush sets off the cannon that sinks the
enemy's pirate ship. Guybrush's crew defeat the other ship's crew and Elaine
thanks Guybrush.

3. - 'Home Is Where You Squish Your Hat': The Marley's luggage is unloaded
and Guybrush squashes a package that Elaine specifically said has to stay on
the top. They get off their ship on to Mélée Island, to discover that there
is nobody to welcome them home.

4. - 'Guybrush Meets His Match': The bank manager opens H.T. Marley's safe
deposit box to get out the Marley heirlooms. Guybrush searches through it
while a mysterious man in a mask comes in and steals the Marley heirlooms.
It is really Pegnose Pete.

5. - 'Good Times, Free Grog': Elaine campaigns while Charles L. Charles offers
to give the citizens of Mélée Island "Good Times and Free Grog". The
citizens applaud the proposition, while Elaine is disgusted by the notion
and eventually shoots a bullet from a pistol in the air.

5. - 'Nobody Nose The Trouble I've Seen': - Guybrush and the Inspector try to
fit the prosthetic nose (that Guybrush found) on Pegnose Pete. It fits and
Guybrush is relieved of the voodoo anklet. Pegnose Pete escapes just after
Guybrush is freed in a puff of smoke, possibly to join Ozzie and LeChuck.

6. - 'The Shocking Truth About Charles': It is seen that Charles is ahead in
the polls. Guybrush gets back with the Marley family heirlooms and the deed
to the mansion. Guybrush fills Elaine in on what happened on Lucre Island.
Charles barges into the mansion, and shows himself to really be LeChuck. He
says he wants to find the Ultimate Insult.

7. - 'Sushi + Flames = Fun': The flames from the flaming scuttlefish melts
the wax from Grandfather Marley's (H.T. Marley) 4th wedding present in the
LUA Bar on Mélée Island. The chef of the LUA bar looks on in amazement and
shock.

8. - 'Spin Control': It's Election Day on Mélée Island. The citizens of Mêlée
are all voting for Charles L. Charles. Elaine tries to persuade them of the
truth, but naturally, no one believes her. Charles brags about winning the
election.

9. -'Talk To The Hands': The lil' Guybrush and Lil' LeChuck puppets get in an
argument with each other. Admiral Casaba spots them and fires the 'really
really big cannon' at them, blowing up the boulder beneath Guybrush.
Guybrush picks up the bronze hat.

10. - 'Guynapped!': Guybrush gets home from Jambalaya Island to discover
LeChuck and Ozzie Mandrill are working together. LeChuck steals the pieces
of the Ultimate Insult from Guybrush. LeChuck tells Guybrush why he is
working for Ozzie. Guybrush asks where Elaine is. Ozzie asks the same
question. LeChuck thinks the Ultimate Insult will help Elaine marry him.
They decide to keep Guybrush as a hostage, but on Monkey Island. The scene
ends with Ozzie, LeChuck and Guybrush laughing evilly (Funniest. Scene.
Ever).

11. - 'The Confession Of H.T. Marley': Herman Toothrot tells you how he got to
Monkey Island - He was in a bar when Ozzie Mandrill came over. H.T. decided
to cheer him up by telling him of the secrets of the Caribbean. During the
race, Ozzie smashes up H.T.'s boat knocking him into a whirlpool. He tells
you he is H.T. Marley. Guybrush tells him he is his son-in-law.

12. - 'Hide and Go Stink': While working on a giant stone statue of
LeChuck The citizens of Mélée Island bicker over who voted for
Charles and who didn't. Elaine thinks about the hopelessness of
the situation. Pegnose Pete finds Elaine and brings her to see
Ozzie and LeChuck.

13. - 'The REAL Secret of Monkey Island': A green light comes out of the giant
monkey head. All the monkeys on the island go help out with the robot and
Three of the monkeys go in to help control the robot. Guybrush tries to
sneak away but H.T. stops him. The robot runs away to Mélée Island.

14. - 'The Ultimate Insult': The monkey robot pulls the giant switch on the
amplifier island. In the mansion, LeChuck can't find the last piece of the
Ultimate Insult (The Gubernatorial Seel of Mélée Island). The seel falls
out of Elaine's pocket. Ozzie joins it to the Ultimate Insult and it makes
the Ultimate Insult work. Pegnose attempts to arrange a better paying deal
by holding them at gunpoint. Ozzie uses the Ultimate Insult on Pegnose and
he is reduced to nothingness. Mandrill tells him to commit suicide, and he
does so. Ozzie uses the Insult on the tube connected to the amplifier. The
switch is turned off so obviously it doesn't work. LeChuck gets
downhearted. Meanwhile, the monkey robot lands on Mélée. LeChuck tries to
get his own back on Ozzie so he uses voodoo to make his statue live.
Mandrill is about to use the Ultimate Insult on the Threepwoods but
LeChuck's statue's stomping knocks him to the ground. LeChuck picks up
Elaine and Ozzie. Ozzie tries to use the ultimate insult on LeChuck. It
doesn't work. Ozzie then gets LeChuck in the eye with the Ultimate Insult.
That works. It makes the big LeChuck submissive. Ozzie commands LeChuck to
kill Guybrush. Guybrush escapes and gets into the Monkey Robot. JoJo Jr.
calls for Monkey Kombat to ensue.

15. - 'The Ultimate Comeback': Elaine escapes the grasp of the statue LeChuck
and runs to Guybrush's robot. LeChuck stops obeying Ozzie (Perched on
LeChuck's hat) and starts attacking him. Ozzie gets killed and LeChuck
blows up for some reason or another, finishing the game.

The Monkey Kombat combinations are different on every game so you must figure
the different changes out for yourself depending on your game. But, if you're
stuck badly you can send me your saved game and I will figure out the stances
and/or pass the Monkey Kombat part depending on what you choose. I highly
recommend that you do it yourself, though. (**At this current point in time, I
have lost my 2nd CD for Escape From Monkey Island. Please do not send me any
Monkey Kombat saved games until this notice is taken down**).

-----NOTE 2:----
Ask JoJo Jr. _EVERYTHING_ just in case I have forgot about some certain parts
of the Kombat rules.

II - Introduction/Rules:
Monkey Kombat is a monkey sport (art), which uses certain stances to beat the
other stance. A stance is made when a monkey (competitor) says a 3-word battle
cry, which enables him to change to another stance. There are 4 different words
which can be part of the cry (Oop, Eek, Ack and Chee) They must be said in a
certain order for the stance change to be acceptable. If the battle cry is
incorrect the competitor who spoke it 'Fouls' and loses 2HP. (Hit Points)

Certain stances beat other stances (see table below) and each stance beats two
other stances and loses to two stances. Every stance draws against itself.
Every time you draw no matter what your stance is, you both get changed to a
different stance in a drawing position. For each time you beat an opponent's
stance he/she/it loses 2 health points (HP). The amount of HP each competitor
has at the start of a battle varies from their strength and experience in the
Monkey Kombat art.

A Monkey Kombat win is declared when one competitor has lost all his/her/its HP
and the other competitor has at least 1 HP. The owner of the sacred bronze hat
is the champion of Monkey Kombat (JoJo Jr.). Usually only monkeys play Monkey
Kombat but for some reason Guybrush takes it up. Now that I've explained the
rules, on with the game!

-----III - Who Beats Who?-----

Ok first of all make a table like this:

| 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5 |
__|_____|_____|_____|_____|_____|
|1 | \ | | | | |
|__|___\_|_____|_____|_____|_____| 1. - Drunken Monkey
|2 | | \ | | | | 2. - Bobbing Baboon
|__|_____|___\_|_____|_____|_____| 3. - Anxious Ape
|3 | | | \ | | | 4. - Charging Chimp
|__|_____|_____|__\__|_____|_____| 5. - Gimpy Gibbon
|4 | | | | \ | |
|__|_____|_____|_____|__\__|_____|
|5 | | | | | \ |
|__|_____|_____|_____|_____|__\__|

You can either print that out or make your own, which will be something like
that. This is the battling chart. You fill in which stance can beat the other
stance and fill it in here. Example:

| 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5 |
__|_____|_____|_____|_____|_____|
|1 | \ | 2 | 1 | 1 | 5 |
| |___\_|_____|_____|_____|_____| 1. - Drunken Monkey
|2 | 2 | \ | | | | 2. - Bobbing Baboon
| |_____|__\__|_____|_____|_____| 3. - Anxious Ape
|3 | 1 | | \ | | | 4. - Charging Chimp
| |_____|_____|__\__|_____|_____| 5. - Gimpy Gibbon
|4 | 1 | | | \ | |
| |_____|_____|_____|__\__|_____|
|5 | 5 | | | | \ |
|__|_____|_____|_____|_____|__\__|

This shows that the Drunken Monkey Stance(1) will beat the Anxious Ape(3) and
Charging Chimp(4) stances, but it will lose to the Bobbing Baboon(2) and Gimpy
Gibbon(5) stances. You must fill in both ends (horizontal and vertical). Each
stance beats two other stances and loses to two stances (in the drunken
monkey's case it loses to 5+2 and beats 3+4). And for a last note, Every stance
draws against its own stance!

This information isn't right in your game! It changes every time you make a new
game!

---IV - Changing Stances----

To change a stance you enter a 3-word battle cry. There are four words that can
be used as a battle cry, Chee, Ack, Oop and Eek. You must enter the words in
certain combinations. The combination
of moving from stance to stance is different depending on what stance you are
currently on and which you are changing to. Again, all stances draw against
each other. Enter the same word 3 times to stay on the same stance.

You don't have to make a table here but you can if you want. I won't make one
for this FAQ because I don't think it is needed. You can just write them down
like this:

1-2 - Oop, Eek, Chee.

This means that in order to change from stance 1 (Drunken Monkey) to stance 2
(Bobbing Baboon) you must enter Oop, Eek, and Chee consecutively.
Entering Oop, Eek, Chee will also work for the opposite (changing from stance 2
to stance 1).

Again, the combinations are different in every game so my examples are very
unlikely to work in your game!

For additional Information or if you're just confused by the way I've explained
different aspects of this mini-game, Monkey Kombat, go to this link (In-depth

** Questions about the Prologue **
**------------------------------------***-------------------------------------**

Q: How the hell do I get off this crappy pirate boat?
------------------------------------------------------
To get off it and win the battle, you must knock over the hot coals nearby
container, pick up one of them and kick it at the loaded cannon (the cannon on
the right). The cannon's fuse will be lit, and it will blow the hell out of the
attacking pirate ship.

**------------------------------------***-------------------------------------**
** Questions about Part 1 - Things To Do On Mélée Island When You're Dead **
**------------------------------------***-------------------------------------**

Q: How do I get the catapult to stop firing boulders at my house?
------------------------------------------------------------------
You must first get the inner tube from the harbour and tie it around the
catapult in front of the mansion. Give the catapult operator a snack and while
he's gone, mess up the catapult configurations. He will attempt to hit the
cactus and the slingshot will make the boulder rebound and hit him.

Q: Where is the Voodoo Lady and how do I talk to her?
------------------------------------------------------
The Voodoo Lady is in the International House of Mojo in the middle of Mélée
Town. You must first look at all of the fingers on the pink hand-shaped table
inside. Pull/Push/Use the one that looks slightly different from the others.

Q: Snack? Where the heck am I going to get a snack at this time of day?
---------------------------------------------------------------------
In the SCUMM Bar, you must get the dart players to hit the drunken pirate's
balloon. Take the kudu-jerky pretzels from him.

Q: Whom will I put in my crew?
--------------------------------
If you use the right (ahem) tactics, you can persuade your old crew, Carla and
Otis to join. There is a pirate navigator in the SCUMM Bar. Beat him at insult
arm wrestling and he will also join.

Q: Um... what kind of tactics?
-------------------------------
Aw, Jeez can none of you figure stuff out for yourself?! There is a cushy
government job contract in Elaine's mansion. Get Elaine to sign it and bribe
Carla and Otis with it.

Q: ...And a ship?
------------------
Ask the pirate mistress for one. When she refuses, ask Elaine to help you get a
ship. She gives you the Gubernatorial Symbol of Mélée Island, which will
command you some authority.

Q: How do I get the Marley family heirlooms out of the bank?
------------------------------------------------------------
You must first read the letter you got from the Marley family lawyers. Talk to
the bank teller, Brittany and ask her if you can take some stuff out of the
vault.

Q: How do I get out of the locked vault?
-----------------------------------------
Pick up all the sponges and pick up the fine grog from inside the vault. Use
the sword to make a hole in the door of the vault. Try to make it bigger. Put
the sponges in the crack and use the fine grog with them.

Q: What do I have to do to prove my innocence?
-----------------------------------------------
You must catch the real perpetrator, Pegnose Pete, present some evidence that
he was at the scene of the crime and retrieve the stolen bank loot. The local
inspector believes you to be guilty of the crime so; he doesn't really help
much with your enquiry.

Q: Um... how will I get evidence of Pegnose Pete being at the scene of the
crime?
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
First, go into the bank, by getting the prosthetic skin from Dave. Use the skin
over the manhole. Look around inside for strange or "funny" things in the bank.

Q: Where does Pegnose Pete live?
---------------------------------
He lives out past the Myste's O Tyme swamp on Lucre Island.

Q: How do I catch Pegnose Pete?
--------------------------------
First, go to the stall beside the house of sticks. Pick up one of the empty
spritzer bottles. Put in the wood shavings from the house of sticks, some bait
from the Bait Shoppe, one of the flowers from outside Ozzie Mandrel's mansion.
Go to the Myste's O Tyme swamp and use the perfume with the puddle. Leave and
go to the Palace O Prosthesis.

Use the Pegnose Pete scented perfume with Deadeye Dave. He will say something
like " Of course I know that smell, seeing as, [Insert Name Here], is my best
customer" Take note of the name he says. Use the controls of the file
retrieving system. There are 3 parts to the name and you have to change the
controls to suite the name that Deadeye said.

The Bunny = A-D
The Palm Tree = E-H
The Pumpkin = I-M
The Monkey = N-S
The Banana = T-Z

When you get the right one, Guybrush will say, "They're directions to Pegnose
Pete's house". Put the directions in your inventory and go to the harbour. If
you look along the harbour, you will see that there are two people playing
chess on there somewhere. Go to where they are.

Talk to the fat one and get all the information you can from him. Then talk to
the other one and say "Hey Brittany" or something to that effect. You must keep
doing stuff like that to each of them until they get into a fight. Pick Up the
clock when they do. Go to the swamp.

Remember the
answer.

When you open the gate, he will go through and you go through to the other
side. After a while you will find the exact same situation again, only with you
as the other Guybrush. You have to do the EXACT same things that the other
Guybrush did, otherwise the space-time continuum will open up and you will go
back to the start.

Q: How will I get proof that Pegnose committed the crime?
-----------------------------------------------------------
You must get the loot back from Pegnose's secret booty chamber.

Q: ...And how do I get there?
------------------------------
First, go to Deadeye Dave's shop, the Palace O' Prosthesis. Play the music box
near Dave and quickly go to the basket with the wooden prosthetic hand in it.
Pick it up. Pick up the music box and then leave. Go to the Bait Shoppe. Use
the wooden hand with the Termite Circus inside. Then, go to the grassy knoll
outside the House of Sticks. Go to the perfume salesman and pick up the bottle
of cologne. Go to Ozzie's mansion and spray it on one of his animals. He will
break his stick, and have to get a new one. Go to the House of Sticks and put
the termites on Mr Mandrel's stick. Go back to Ozzie's mansion and talk to him
until he says he will go to the Booty Showroom. When he does, follow him and he
will lead you to the show room. There is a hidden passage behind he knoll.

Q: How do I actually GET the Marley heirlooms?
-----------------------------------------------------
Follow the instructions above, until you get inside the booty showroom. In case
you haven't already, get the ScupperWare container inside the bank and some
more bait. Open the ScupperWare container and put the bait in it. Go to the
edge of the peninsula where the showroom is, where it says, "Dive into Deep
Water". Dive in. Open the ScupperWare container when the lighted fish come near
and one of them should swim inside. This gives you a torch-like lamp. Go inside
the secret door. I believe that the heirlooms are there.

**------------------------------------***-------------------------------------**
** Questions about Act II - Enter the Manatee **
**------------------------------------***-------------------------------------**

Q: What is the fourth wedding present?
-----------------------------------------
The fourth wedding present is a map of the tri-island area, which was painted
by Meathook, your old friend. Since Grandfather Marley died, he has painted
over some of his old canvases, one of which, happened to be the Fourth wedding
present. That exact picture is in the Lua (SCUMM) Bar.

Q: How do I get the fourth wedding present?
----------------------------------------------
First, go to the harbour and you will find a quarter on the ground. Put it in
the grog machine and it will get stuck. Kick, Punch and Yell at it and a few
(hundred) grogs will come out. Pick one up and go to Meathook's house in the
corner of Mélée Island. Talk to him until he shows's you one of the
paintbrushes he has. Pick it up and go to the Lua Bar.

You must sit down at one of the seats in the Lua bar. Ask the waitress can you
order something, while sitting down. Ask her for something cooked and she
recommends the flaming scuttlefish. When you see it coming down on one of the
boats, get ready and take out the paintbrush (from Meathook's). Put it in the
mechanics of the system when the scuttlefish passes the pole in front of the
screen. You must time it perfectly. The chef will come running out, and you
should go up to the kitchen. But the grog in the steam generator and a cut-
scene will ensue.

Q: What do I do with the wedding presents, now that I have them all?
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Go to your ship, The Dainty Lady. There is a figurehead at the front. Put the
voodoo earrings on her and she will come to life. Put the necklace and the pen
on a chain on her. Finally, put the painting in her hands. Ask her anything
about the Ultimate Insult. Go to Jambalaya Island.

Q: How do I stay awake during Stan's pitch?
---------------------------------------------
You must go to Starbuccaneer's Café and there is a coffee cup hidden in the
window. Pick it up and then ask for a refill.

Q: How do I stay on the "Mechanical Manatee"?
-------------------------------------------------
You must use the pot of glue you got in Stan's time-share emporium (gaudy
house) with the manatee. Ask for another shot at staying on the manatee, and
you should stick onto it.

Q: I have two Monkey Mug Meal vouchers. What do I need two for?
----------------------------------------------------------------
The second one is in case you screw up on the first attempt of doing what you
are supposed to do in there.

Q: Which part of the Ultimate Insult is the Bronze hat?
---------------------------------------------------------
The bronze hat part is from the top of the statue in the middle of Jambalaya
Island town.

Q: Which part of the Ultimate Insult is the Silver Monkey head?
----------------------------------------------------------------
The Silver Monkey Head part of the Ultimate Insult is from the Ceremonial
Monkey Mug in Planet Threepwood.

Q: Which part of the Ultimate Insult is the golden man?
--------------------------------------------------------
The golden man part is the diving trophy at the tallest artificial plank dive
in the world. You can get it by beating Marco DePollo.

Q: How do I get the bronze hat?
--------------------------------
(Taken from walkthrough) Go to the statue in the middle of town. Look at the
plaque. Talk to the tourist. Ask if he knows anything about the Ultimate
Insult. Say one of the pieces looks like a bronze pirate hat. Say, "That's a
great Ensemble." Ask what he is doing. Ask about the top of the statue. Stop
talking to him.

Go to the harbour and use the rowboat next to your ship. Row to the ship beside
Knuttin Atoll. He will fire a shot from his cannon at you. You can talk to
Admiral Casaba a bit more if you want a little background information about him
being there. Leave Casaba's ship.

You will see the start of the class-taking place. At the
end you have to pass an exam, which makes up for 90% of your grade. Answer all
the questions like a pirate and she will give you a 'dunce' cap and send you
outside. Take off the cap and keep it.

Use the fire alarm at the right-hand side of the school, and then run back
inside the school. Go to the treasure chest of piratey items and Pick Up the
whistle. Miss. Rivers will probably catch you. Go to the path along the coast
of the sea, going to the right. Walk along it until you go into a clearing with
two other pirates. One of them will run off and Admiral Casaba will fire a shot
from his cannon again.

Talk to the fat guy. Say that he is awfully large. Say you are looking for the
Ultimate Insult. Ask if he is related to Tiny LaFeet. Say you want to talk
about his father. Ask if he was really called 'Tiny the Friendly Pirate'. Say
something along the lines of "If you're father was such a great pirate..." Ask
about the statue. Ask where he buried the Bronze hat. Ask if you can keep it if
you find it. Ask about his parrots and then stop talking to Jambeaux.

Go off the right of the map and you will find a boulder. Use the whistle. The
parrots will come down and land on the rock. Give one of them the wimpy grog.
Ask the other one a question you know the answer to. So now you know which one
tells the truth and which one lies. Ask the truth-telling parrot which way
should you go to find Tiny's hat.

Start a fight between the two of
them.

Q: How do I get the Silver Monkey Head part of the Ultimate Insult?
--------------------------------------------------------------------
First, make sure you have the Starbuccaneer's Mug (from the tourist) and the
Pot o' Glue from Stan's Time-Share Emporium. Go into Planet Threepwood and say
you are ready to order. Ask for any combination of food. Go to sit down, and
talk to the Jolly Pirate. When he asks you if you want a characature, say
"Sure, why not".

Pick any of the answers to the questions he asks until you get your characature
(Make sure it's a characature with you AND the monkey mug). Use the jar o' glue
with the characature and use the characature with the Starbuccaneer's Mug.
Switch (Use) the Fake mug with the real mug.

Q: How do I get the Golden Man part of the Ultimate Insult?
--------------------------------------------------------------------
Firstly, make sure you have the pamphlet from Stan's, mini-bagel from
Starbuccaneer's and the dunce hat from the pirate school on Knuttin Atoll.

Run to the tall rock, and when you get there, chew the mini-bagel. Talk to the
guy in the black and white swimsuit (Marco DePollo). Ask him how he got into
diving. Ask if he stills dives into piles of children. Ask if the competition
is open to anyone. Ask if you can dive against him. Use the half-eaten bagel
with the bottle of baby oil. Go into the changing tent and Use it.

Run along the plant that runs towards the front of the screen. Talk to the
judges. Ask to dive against DePollo. You will get a physical and pass it. Go
back to the changing tent and Talk to DePollo. Ask to dive against him. When
you get to the top of the rock, just move towards the plank and dive straight
in.

Go to the judges and talk to the hippie judge. Ask what was wrong with your
last dive. Write this down:

Keelhaul - UP
Rum Barrel - DOWN
Spinning Swordsman - RIGHT
Alpha Monkey - LEFT

When one of the judges announces one of DePollo's moves you must copy them to
please the Hippie judge.

When you get to the top of the plank, put on the 'dunce' cap. Move towards on
to the plank and type in the moves that DePollo did. If you did it right, You
will get a 10/10 out of all the judges which makes you draw against him. Do any
dive and you will get a 10/10. When Marco DePollo goes to dive seagulls will
start pecking at him and he will fall in to the water, making you win the
trophy.

Q: What do I have to do at Vista Point?
----------------------------------------
Go to vista point, when you get up, pick up one of the rocks in the nearby
pile. Throw it in the right canal. Pick Up another rock. When the first one
passes one of the branches and moves the branch slightly, throw another in.
When the next one passes a branch throw a rock into the left canal. When a rock
moves a branch again throw another in the left canal. That rock should land in
the lava field, forming a puddle of lava.

Q: How do I open the large, metal door in Herman's gold mine?
--------------------------------------------------------------
Get the banana picker outside of the mine, and go to the beach. Use the banana
picker to pick up the bananas until you get the whole bunch. Give Timmy the
monkey a banana and he will follow you. Go to the mine and go inside. Open the
vent and put a banana inside. Close the vent and use the portal to tease Timmy
with a banana - He will be so desperate for a banana that he will open the
door.

Q: How do I get across the river that runs through Monkey Island?
-----------------------------------------------------------------
First, follow the above advice, and go up to the church beside the lava field.
Ask the ghost-priest if you can go on the river of molten lava and, when you
do, float into the puddle that was formed by the boulder. To get back, push
down the tree near the bridge and run across.

Q: How do I get the accordion from the monkey in the village?
--------------------------------------------------------------
Use must use the two shields that you got in LeChuck's church together, making
cymbals. It is best that you wait until the last moment before you give him the
symbols that as that infernal banging drives you INSANE. Insane, I say!

Q: How do I get the bronze hat off JoJo Jr. and why do I need it?
------------------------------------------------------------------
You need the bronze hat to make a giant Ultimate Insult, along with the giant
monkey head and the banana picker. To get it you must engage in the art of
Monkey Kombat to get it. See the Monkey Kombat section for help on this
subject.

Q: What do I have to do to Herman before he gets his memory back?
*********************************************************************
Hmmm... I've answered this question many, many times by many different people
and hopefully making this section will stop such a large amount of E-mail's
asking the same question. Anywho...

You must first get the Milk bottle (from the lava field), accordion (from the
monkey in JoJo Jr's village) and the coconut (beside Herman's shack in the
clearing). Hit him with these three things and these three things *_ONLY_*. If
you hit him with more than those three things he will completely lose his
memory and you must restart from your last saved game... it's harsh, I know.
You must hit him in this exact order too: Coconut, milk bottle, and accordion.

Q: How do I get inside the giant Monkey Head?
------------------------------------------------
Use the banana picker with the nose of the monkey head, as there is a latch in
there. The stairway will be revealed and you can go inside.

Q: How do I get the giant Monkey Robot to work?
-----------------------------------------------
First, use the weed whipper to cut down the weeds near the lava puddle. This
gets the lava inside the robotics. Next, put the bronze hat on top of the
monkey head. Use the banana picker with the latch inside the nose of the head,
making a giant Ultimate Insult. Go inside the robot and put the Gubernatorial

tower and jump on the plank to springboard yourself onto the medium sized
tower. Use the big switch on top to turn off the amplifier.

Q: How do I actually beat LeChuck and Ozzie in Monkey Kombat?
---------------------------------------------------------------
You will never beat LeChuck, due to the fact that his and your health keeps
coming back after you hit him with a move. You must only draw with him three
times. On the third time Elaine will escape from LeChuck's hand and LeChuck
eventually blows up.

Q: The hell?! Is that it?!?!
--------------------------------
Yes, that's it I'm afraid. If you're waiting for a sequel, try a different
game, as it will be a long time before a sequel is released.

**------------------------------------***-------------------------------------**
** Miscellaneous Questions **
**------------------------------------***-------------------------------------**

Q: Which is the best game of the Monkey Island series to buy first?
--------------------------------------------------------------------
Well, it's quite obvious... Start with Monkey Island one, The Secret Of Monkey
Island, and after that, move up to Monkey Island 2: LeChuck's revenge. Get the
Curse of Monkey Island then and finally finish with Escape From Monkey Island,
if you haven't already.

Q: Are there any other games like any of the Monkey Island series?
--------------------------------------------------------------------
Yeah, I suppose there is a few, like Sam & Max: Hit The Road, Maniac Mansion 1,
Maniac Mansion 2: Day Of The Tentacle and Grim Fandango. Most of the Indiana
Jones series are pretty good too, but a lot harder than MI and not as much
humour involved. You can get 'Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis' on many
demo/shareware/ROM sites as it is a shareware game. The Dig is a good adventure
game also, and isn't as hard as any of the Indiana Jones series. Many, many
puzzles in both. Also, you might want to check out a couple RPGs, like Final
Fantasy and the like.

Q: What the heck is the ending of Monkey Island 2 about?
------------------------------------------------------------------
Ahhh... Monkey Island 2... the only Monkey Island game I don't have anymore...
From what I have read on other websites, I think the ending is supposed to be a
dream, and the conclusion was supposed to play out in Monkey Island 3. The
person responsible for the first two games (Ron Gilbert for your information)
left the company and Monkey Island 3 was made the way it is now. I believe
there is a report about this on Scummbar.com with the guy (again, Ron Gilbert)
who made the first two. Originally, the Monkey Island was supposed to be only a
trilogy. Apparently, Monkey Island is now supposed to be a five game series.
Though, only four have been released.

Q: Did anyone else notice that there is an X-Wing in the Mystes O' Tyme swamp
on Lucre Island?
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Yes, many have seen it. That is an X-Wing from the best trilogy of films ever
made, Star Wars. The Myste's O' Tyme swamp is supposed to be like the swamp on
Degobah, which Luke crash-lands into. Yoda eventually rescues the ship in the
end, and Luke escapes. There are many more in-game jokes, which can be found at
this site: www.worldofmi.com along with a lot more information about the Monkey
Island series. Great site.

Q: How did Guybrush's name come about?
---------------------------------------
In the olden days, when Monkey Island was being created, picture files were
saved as ".brush" files. The designer of the characters had a main character
drawn up, but had failed to give him a name, instead just naming the file
"Guy.brush" until he found a suitable name for him. Threepwood, Guybrush's
surname, was something that the designer had earlier on in development of MI 1.
When he was thinking of a main character, he was using the model of a

Q: How come none of the characters in MI speak like pirates?
--------------------------------------------------------------
I dunno... never thought of it, really... there isn't really as many pirate-
speaking pirates in Monkey Island 4 as there was in Monkey Island 3, but there
is still a few here and there. Although, in general, there is not very many
pirates at all in EFMI, let alone Pirate speaking ones. There are more tourists
than anything else. The 'Insult sword-fighting' part of MI3 had a lot of
pirates speaking like that.

Q: Is there any point to the prosthetic limbs that can be got from Deadeye
Dave?
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Not really - they aren't really necessary to complete the game. If you join
them all together you make 'The Abomination of Nature'. If you use the
Abomination, Guybrush shrieks "It... Is... Alive!" but the creature falls
apart, back into its broken-prosthetic-limb form.

What to do once you have got the game but haven't played it yet?
------------------------------------------------------------------

Well, first of all, if you haven't played Monkey Island 1, 2, or 3, you must
play those first, especially SoMI, as it introduces the characters, and may
help you get a grasp on general MI knowledge. Ok, if you have played them, then
I'm sure you are already installing the game. Well, once it's installed, you
can go ahead and play.

What do I need to do to be good at a Monkey Island-style game?
----------------------------------------------------------------
Well, first of all, get rid of all your logical thinking, due to the fact that
you can do almost anything in this game. Second, try to pick up anything -
Almost anything of value in MI games is available to pick up, or to use
someway. Third, prepare for a long and gruelling couple of weeks while playing.
This game gets quite frustrating, so it might take a bit of determination to
get by.

When should I save the game to avoid losing any data?
--------------------------------------------------------

I know, this question sounds stupid but to me at least, it is important.
Basically, you should save the game regularly in these situations:

- If the game is getting slower than it should be, or isn't smooth, save it,
just in case the game exits or crashes, for no apparent reason.

- If you have just completed one of the more difficult parts, it is
wise to save it, due to the fact that it may quit accidentally randomly.

- If the graphics are getting a bit off-colour, or jerky, you might
want to save and reboot your computer before continuing playing.

What to do when you have beaten Escape From Monkey Island?
-----------------------------------------------------------
Well, it kinda sucks when you're finished, because in The Curse of Monkey
Island (MI3), you had the "Mega Monkey" mode, which was basically the main
story/plot, only harder. You will realise some of the strange things that will
automatically be completed to make the game easier in the other mode.

Sadly, in EFMI, there is no Mega-Monkey mode, so, there ain't really a whole
lot else to do. Of course, instead of just letting the game sit there and
gather dust, write an FAQ or something, as long as you have enjoyed it.

**==================================**========================================**
** 14. - Places of Interest in Monkey Island **
**==================================**========================================**
********************************************************************************

=============
Mélée Island:
=============

The SCUMM Bar - Home of the evilest, meanest pirates in the Caribbean and our
favourite alcoholic beverage, grog. In other words: Best. Bar. Ever. The Scumm
Bar is one of the few remaining bars that still serve straight grog. It is also
where Guybrush started out on his quest to become a pirate. I think it has been
in all the Monkey Island games ever, except maybe for The Curse Of Monkey
Island.

The Governor's Mansion - Your (Guybrush's) humble home. The viscous piranha
poodles usually guard it. Elaine actually owns the house, as it is the
Governor's mansion. Sadly this house is destined to be destroyed bye City Hall.
It lies on the Northwest side of Mélée Island. There are many animal hedge-
sculptures outside, lining the path leading to the door.

Meathook's House - Home of the famous wax-painted and your old crewmember. Also
the old home of Meathook's infamous parrot. Closed for the time being.
Recently, Meathook got a bridge, instead of the old "Rubber Chicken with a
pulley in the middle" method of getting there.

The International House of Mojo - This is the shop/home of the Voodoo Lady.
Home of weird voodooey items and strange contraptions for her to pop out of. In
this version, you must pull one of the fingers on a chair to get her to appear.
The Voodoo Lady usually is the one to give you the best advice for the various
conundrums...

The Harbour - Okay, nearly every island or town has one of these, but not every
harbour has a fat woman in purple clothing to run it, like Mêlée's. This is
where your ship, the Dainty Lady, is parked while you don't need it. There are
various other ships there too. Also, there is a grog machine, which really
can't help the drink-driving laws...

=============
Lucre Island:
=============

Hall 'o Justice - A.K.A., Lucre Island Jail. Inspector Canard works/lives(?)
here. Also the place where there is a huge hook for some reason. Otis spent
some time in this jail ("I'm a victim of society!").

The 2nd Bank of Lucre Island - This is where the Marley family heirlooms were
stored until Guybrush came to collect them. The bank was run out of business
when Pegnose Pete stole the loot from it, but it is now up and running again.

Prosthetics Palace - Deadeye Dave's shop of prosthesis. Very useful if your
missing a stomach or butt. Or maybe even some skin! Deadeye gives out some free
experimental prostheses in exchange for a story that he can tell you.

The Myste's 'o Tyme Swamp - The only swamp with a time continuum. That's good,
right? Not if you hate doing that part in the game (and I hate it). This is
also where Pegnose Pete lives. There is a crashed X-Wing among the trees and
water and crap there.

Ozzie Mandrel's Mansion - The largest building on Lucre Island. Ozzie Mandrel
operates his evil schemes from here; though there are Australian stuffed
animals placed everywhere. There is a cool water fountain outside it too, and
also a flower.

=================
Jambalaya Island:
=================

Planet Threepwood - Your own personal restaurant. They seem to have robbed
plenty of stuff from your mansion, as there is an incredible amount of Guybrush
Threepwood memorabilia there. Planet Threepwood is also, the only known home of
the famous monkey mug. Ozzie Mandrel's Corporation owns Planet Threepwood.

Starbuccaneer's - A coffee shop... on Jambalaya Island?! Again, this
coffeehouse is the work of the infamous Ozzie Mandrel. A new product called
groggaccino is supposed to be like grog but is really just a high-energy drink.

The Micro Groggery - Your average modern grog-serving bar. Strict with their
serving as everyone must hold ID. Grog-lite is served here (wimpy grog). There
is also a mechanical manatee for entertainment in the bar. Carla is found drunk
in here.

The Statue of Tiny LaFeet - There is a statue of Tiny LaFeet in the middle of
Jambalaya Town. Ozzie Mandrel pretended that Tiny was a friendly pirate. That
is not true. Jeamboux LaFeet stole the hat off the statue. There is usually
some fucking tourist around the statue.

Plank Dive Competition (Tall Rock) - Where Mr. Marco DePollo puts on his shows
of plank dives. The home of the golden man part of the ultimate insult.
Stan's Time Share (Gaudy Mansion) - Where your old friend, Stan runs his new
Time Share business. His house is being sprayed for big bugs so his desk is
outside.

==============
Knuttin' Atoll:
==============

The Pirate Conversion School - This is the school where pirates get converted
to normal, law abiding citizens again. After they pass the final exam, they go
to live on Jambalaya Island. The school is run by one teacher, Miss Rivers. She
runs a strict school, and 90% of the grade rests on the final (oral) exam.

Hellbeard's Puppet Theatre - Hellbeard, the once fearless swashbuckling pirate,
now lives in a puppet theatre with the Lil' Guybrush puppet and Lil' LeChuck
puppet. Hellbeard's ego was squashed by the Ultimate Insult many years ago when
that was legal.

===============
Monkey Island:
===============
The Campsite - This is where you meet Herman Toothrot, who has now lost his
memory completely. His house (made out of a boat) is there too. You get to hit
him with a coconut there and then. Yay!

Canyon - A gold-filled canyon, which Herman Toothrot 'owns'. It is also the
contraption, which the giant monkey robot is controlled from. There are many
roots sticking through the ceiling, as there isn't much soil on Monkey Island.

The First Church of LeChuck - A [nice] church on the side of the volcano. The
ghostly Reverend Allegro Rasputin runs it. There are many stained glass windows
of LeChuck and one of Elaine. There is a river of lava running through the
middle of the church. It is used for weddings. It was built to hold the wedding
of Elaine and LeChuck.

Lava Field - Simply, a Lava field, into which your pet monkey, Timmy throws a
metal milk bottle into. Not really that great but when was the last time you
saw a lava field in your backyard? You can also take a ride from LeChuck's
church into it... pretty classy...

Monkey Town - The monkeys of Monkey Island have moved, and now reside in the
old cannibal's village. JoJo Junior is there who is also the Monkey Kombat
champion. He is the son of JoJo Senior, who you killed accidentally in the
Secret of Monkey Island. Usually there is a few monkeys lying around, including
the annoying musical monkey... *shudders*

World Famous Giant Monkey Head - As Guybrush has said, "That's the second
biggest monkey head I've ever seen!" - Quite True! Our favourite giant monkey
head in the world is really quite remarkable. Once combined with the banana
picker and the bronze hat, you have a giant ultimate insult. There is also a
passageway inside, which leads to the control room of a giant monkey robot. A
must-see if you're a tourist..., which, I'm not. Are you? *eyes you
suspiciously*

** 15. - The Monkey Island Story **
**==================================**========================================**
********************************************************************************

The Monkey Island games go in this order:

1. - The Secret Of Monkey Island
2. - Monkey Island2: LeChuck's Revenge
3. - The Curse Of Monkey Island
4. - Escape From Monkey Island

You probably know what happens in this, the fourth Monkey Island game, Escape
from Monkey Island, but I put in the whole story, anyway. This section is
basically what has happened in the series overall, before now. I would like to
tell you everything myself, but sadly I don't have MI 2 anymore due to my lack
of skill at keeping CDs safe... Anywho, if anyone has it and feels like helping
me a bit more, you can feel free to e-mail me with your contributions and
suggestions. And By the way, I still need a definitive version of the MI2
story, until I make my own as soon as I get the game and complete it again.

Note: The game's stories are first, and below them there is a short review for
each (Bar MI2, of course).

1. The Secret Of Monkey Island:
*****---------------------------------------------------------------------*****

Contributed by Leyginaire@cs.com

OK, so, it starts nicely: Guybrush walks onto screen and strikes up a
conversation with the (blind) Melee Island watchman, saying he's Guybrush
Threepwood and he wants to be a pirate. The watchman directs him towards the
SCUMM Bar, where there is some sort of pirate high-council tribunal. They tell
him to officially become a pirate, he must complete three tasks: find and defeat
Carla, the swordmaster of Mélée Island (in insult sword fighting competition),
find a buried treasure, and break into the governors house and steal The Idol Of
Many Hands.

In the long process of these inane tasks, he hears rumours about LeChuck, meets
Elaine and the towns' new sheriff, Fester Shinetop. Guybrush is dumbstruck by
Elaine (literally, he can only say thing like "blurg" and "guh"), but finds the
sheriff also wants her hand. The sheriff is a big jerk, and Elaine is not
interested in him, but it seems he has been persisting with this for a while. He
tries to kill Guybrush for getting in his way, but Guybrush saves himself (and
acquires the sword he needs for the sword master task, if I recall correctly).

Anywho, Guybrush completes all the tasks, but returns to find the town nigh
vacant of its inhabitants (including the pirate tribunal). He finds out LeChuck
came by to kidnap Elaine, and all the pirates have gone into cowering. Guybrush
determines he must go to Monkey Island to retrieve his new love and accomplish
his first piratey adventure. He must gather a crew, convincing sword master
Carla, Otis (who you must spring from jail), and Meathook, and acquire a ship by
stealing the shopkeepers credit voucher and haggling with Stan.

They set off and he quickly finds his 'crew' is unwilling to do anything to
help, so Guybrush must find the way to the mysterious island on his own. While
exploring the ship he finds a recipe for Monkey Island, which needless to say,
strikes him as odd. He goes about preparing the concoction, and when it's done,
the putrid smell knocks him out. When he wakes up, he finds he apparently cast a
crazy spell, and they have drifted to Monkey Island. The crew is still refusing
to do anything, and the lifeboat is broken, so Guybrush finds a way to fire
himself out of a cannon to reach shore, abandoning his useless crew.

On shore, he meets Herman Toothrot (whom Guybrush promises to take home) and
many monkeys. He finds a catapult, which plays an intricate puzzle role. Also
note, if you mistakenly sink your ship with the catapult, you hitch a ride with
Herman, who apparently had his own ship or plane or something the whole time, on
your way back to Melee. At the end of the game, Guybrush muses that he "could
swear he forgot something", and you see either Herman or your crew, whoever you
left behind, stranded and pissed off still back at Monkey Island.

Anyway, Guybrush meets some cannibals, who say they can make a ghost killing
spray out of a root, which apparently only LeChuck has. They give you a snooty
magic talking navigator's head to find LeChuck's ghost ship in the hellish
bowels of Monkey Island, and a necklace, which makes you invisible to ghosts.
On LeChuck's ship, you find that the Fester Shinetop, Mélée Sheriff, is in fact
LeChuck in a disguise, and he intends to marry Elaine so he will control Melee
Island.

After Guybrush obtains the root, he brings it back to the cannibals, who make
him a special root potion, and he goes back to confront LeChuck, but finds they
have left to go back to Méleé island to get married. He follows them back and
attempts to break up the wedding, but before he can use his potion, LeChuck
wallops him through the roof, causing Guybrush to drop the bottle. LeChuck then
proceeds to kick Guybrush's ass all over Mélée island (literally, he hits you
and you go flying across the map ^_^).

Landing in the shipyard, Guybrush develops the intuition to put money in the
drink machine and bust out a root beer on LeChuck's evil, undead, ghostly ass,
which is promptly blown away. And such is the end of Guybrush's first adventure.

Review:
Guybrush's first adventure, (given the circumstances) couldn't have been
better. (By 'circumstances', I mean the year in which it was released.)
Although there is no sound, I still feel "in to" it enough to be able to make up
my own 'Guybrush voice'. (you don't wanna hear it _) One minus point for it is
that the characters (to me) aren't as well developed as they could have been.
The Secret of Monkey Island is still an amazing game, although it seems long and
boring when you have no sound.

*****---------------------------------------------------------------------*****
2. - Monkey Island 2: LeChuck's Revenge:
*****---------------------------------------------------------------------*****

Contributed by DarkCloud.

The game starts as follows: Guybrush is seen in an abyss, hung on a rope with a
treasure box in his hand. Elaine saves Guybrush, and has. Guybrush then explains
how he got to the bottom of the hole. Guybrush sits (so to speak as a flashback)
with two other pirates at a campfire on Scabb Island. He tells the story again
how he destroyed LeChuck. Guybrush then decides to attempt to find the largest,
most powerful known treasure in the Caribbean, Big Whoop. Soon, his campfire
friends get bored of that story. Guybrush then decides to rent a ship, to help
his quest. But a man named Largo prevents it. The Voodoo Lady gives him advice
on what to use to get rid of Largo off the island. Guybrush manages to rid the
island of Largo though not for free: Before Largo pushes off, it still nicks a
piece of LeChuck from Guybrush: His beard. Largo disappears with the words: "For
years we have sought a piece of LeChuck! We can revive him now! "The Voodoo
wants to take the LeChuck revenge at it Lady tells.
Why is probably clear. But Guybrush can't turn himself away of it and decide to
take on the search for Big Whoop.

He learns that the map (which leads to Big Whoop) was cut into four parts.
Guybrush finds all four; however, LeChuck takes him captive before he can get to
the Big Whoop treasure. Guybrush can flee fortunately and blows himself up on
the Dinky Island. By chance Dinky Island is exactly the island on which Big
Whoop shall be. Guybrush finds the famous 'X marks the spot' on the ground and
force it open with explosives. He fastens a rope at a hook, vaults to the pit
and grabs the box itself. This is the scene from the intro. Elaine wants to help
Guybrush, but the rope breaks, before Elaine could do a thing.

Guybrush wakes up and sees LeChuck in front of him, with a Voodoo doll in
his hand. He torments Guybrush a bit with that. LeChuck suddenly disappears,
because he wants to have a little more fun with him later. Guybrush shoots to
turn the spear over, and makes a Voodoo doll of LeChuck. Guybrush lured LeChuck
into a dead end. After Guybrush has pierced him a bit, he tears a leg off from
the LeChuck doll. LeChuck tells Guybrush the following: "Guybrush, I'm your
Brother, please remove my mask". Guybrush removes the Mask, and he sees his
brother, Chucky. Suddenly a safety employee comes and takes the two to her
parents. Guybrush and Chucky are children again, and they are in a place called
"Big Whoop Theme Park". This is everything that leads to the strangest Ending of
all times. To see the meaning of this ending, go to the Frequently Asked
Questions Section, under 'Misc Questions'.

*****---------------------------------------------------------------------*****
3. - The Curse Of Monkey Island:
*****---------------------------------------------------------------------*****

The story starts as Guybrush is stranded in a dodgem car in the middle of the
ocean. He floats into a battle between LeChuck and Elaine. Eventually he is
picked up by LeChuck's ship and kept imprisoned. Guybrush meets Wally in
LeChuck's hold and eventually gets out to finds a huge diamond ring. He uses
that ring to propose to Elaine and after Elaine puts the ring on, Wally tells
him that it was a cursed ring from LeChuck's hold. Suddenly, Elaine turns into
a solid gold statue and Guybrush panics and leaves her out in the open. He flees
to the voodoo lady's shack in the swamp.
The Voodoo lady helps him and tells him of a larger diamond on Blood
Island, which might break the curse. When Guybrush tries to go back to the place
where he left Elaine, he discovers that some pirates have taken her. The pirates
bury Elaine in the theatre in Puerto Pollo. Guybrush uses his exceptional
ventriloquism skills to win the map of where Elaine is buried.
Guybrush must go to Blood Island to get the bigger diamond so he can rescue
Elaine. Along the way, Captain Rottingham steals Guybrush's map and Guybrush
must learn the art of insult sword fighting to help get it back.
When he finally reaches Blood Island, Guybrush uses some underhanded
tactics to get the diamond and retrieve a new wedding band. He eventually frees
Elaine of her golden body cell. Soon after, LeChuck's followers surround him and
Elaine, taking them to LeChuck's amusement park on Monkey Island.
LeChuck puts a spell on Guybrush, turning him into a kid and sends
Guybrush on his roller coaster of death. To save him, Elaine switches the track
route. LeChuck then attempts again to kill Guybrush again, but then Guybrush
saves himself and Elaine by blowing up half of Monkey Island and LeChuck's
amusement park while burying LeChuck under a mountain of ice. Only to be saved
by Ozzie, as you know, just before the start of EFMI...

Review:
The Curse of Monkey Island is, without a doubt, the best game from the Monkey
Island series yet. Originally, it was supposed to be different, but that can't
hide the sheer brilliance that this game radiates. The graphics are smooth,
although it is quite simple, and the sound works with the gameplay seamlessly.
For me, it is an excellent game.
