Resident Evil, or BioHazard in Japan, is a series that brought survival horror
to new heights. Ever since March 22, 1996, Resident Evil has spanned 6 games.
The first Resident Evil was released for PC and both Saturn and PlayStation,
with a GameCube remake incarnation coming next month.
Resident Evil 2 was released across the 1998 PlayStation twice, and then onto
the Dreamcast, Nintendo 64, PC and game.com in 1999 and 2000. A GameCube port
is due in 2002.
Resident Evil 3: Nemesis was released in 1999, and ported onto PC and Dreamcast
in 2000 and 2001. A GameCube port is due in 2002.
The next Resident Evil installment, CODE: Veronica, was released on the
Dreamcast in early 2000. It was then remade into CODE: Veronica Complete (CVX)
which was put on the Japanese Dreamcast and the worldwide PlayStation 2. A
GameCube port is due in 2002.
And then there is Gun Survivor and Gun Survivor 2. Gun Survivor was released on
PlayStation, and Gun Survivor 2 was released across the Arcade and PlayStation
2.
This FAQ will cover all released Resident Evil 2 versions. For gameplay help,

4. RESIDENT EVIL 2 (PSX)
------------------------
This is the very first Resident Evil 2 to be released. It was imcomplete in
terms of what the other versions had to offer. For comparisons, seek its
section below.
This is the second and final Resident Evil 2 to be released on PlayStation. It
had the Extreme Battle Mode, and Dual Shock analog support. For comparisons,
seek its section below.
This is the very first and only Resident Evil 2 to be released on Nintendo. It
had its share of exclusives, from the Violence Control, Blood Color, EX Files,
2D control, single medium, in game saving and Violence Control. Unfortunately,
it lacked in the Extreme Battle Mode. A file that was incorrect in all previous
versions is now correct.
This is the very first Resident Evil 2 to be released. It was basically a port
of the Dual Shock Version. It had Character Art, and in game movies of the FMV
in the game. It also a special VMU feature, which saves time from switching to
the item screen. Unfortunately, it lacked the N64’s features.
8. RESIDENT EVIL 2 (PC)
-----------------------
This is the very first Resident Evil 2 to be released. This version is
basically the Dreamcast version, but with the Unlocked EX Battle game. It, too,
lacked the features which made the N64 version unique.
It is basically Leon’s scenario compressed onto a little system with slightly
worse graphics than the GameBoy. Claire’s scenario is not included, as the
game.com failed before Claire’s scenario can be released.

Q: Which version is worth it?
-----------------------------
::If you only have a PSX, get the Dual Shock version. If you only have an N64,
get that version. If you only have a PC, get that version. If you have a
Dreamcast only, get that version. Try to grab the N64 or Dreamcast versions
though.
Q: What are the differences?
----------------------------
::Refer to the above for the differences.
Q: Which version has the best graphics?
---------------------------------------
::N64’s version does, so far.
Q: When is the GCN version coming out?
--------------------------------------
::In 2002.
Q: Which version will the GCN version be ported from?
-----------------------------------------------------
::That is a tough one. I think Shinji Mikami would little time). He can port it
from N64, because it has its storyline progressions (EX Files hint at RE0). He
can port it from Dreamcast, because ports between Dreamcast and GameCube are
*EASY*. Honestly, just hope it has all the DC, N64 and PC version features.
Q: Why are all these RE2 versions out?
--------------------------------------
::Money.
Q: Which version is your favorite?
----------------------------------
::The N64 and Dreamcast ports.
Q: Which is the cheapest?
-------------------------
::The Dreamcast, N64, PC and PSX versions are all lower than $20. Grab the N64
one, if you have an N64.
Q: Why won’t they remake RE2 as well as RE3 on GCN?
---------------------------------------------------
::For one thing, RE2 and RE3 are already fine. RE1 isn’t as good as it should
be, compared to CVX. Plus we’d never see RE Zero or RE4 if they remake RE2 and
RE3, which is unnecessary.
Q: I have a gameplay question.
------------------------------
::Ask away!
Q: Why is N64 version your favorite?
------------------------------------
::Because it has the best analog control, the EX Files, Blood Color, no loading
times and the Violence Control.
