1) Guide History

2/15/2002 - Created this guide.
-----------------------------------------------------------
2) Who is Jiang Wei?

Taken from the DW3 Character Database:
An officer of Shu. He once belonged to Wei, but was caught in a plot by
Zhuge Liang, who had come to conquer the north, and joined Shu. Filled
with admiration for Zhuge Liang, he was treated as a successor and was
even trusted with Zhuge Liang's strategy books. After his mentor's
death, he vowed to fulfill Zhuge Liang's ambition, and continued the
attack against the North.

LordKarasuman's Notes: Jiang Wei (style name Boyue) became the Prime
Minister of the Shu-Han Kingdom after Zhuge Liang's death.
Unfortunately, he was not able to overcome Wei, and surrendered to them
at the command of his mother. The strategy books given to Jiang Wei,
known as Zhuge Liang's 24 Volumes, was lost. He tried to rebel at one
point, but failed. He afterwards committed suicide.
-----------------------------------------------------------
3) Why would you use this character?

Jiang Wei's a polearm character. Not only that, he's a very challenging
polearm character to use. Those who favor spears and pikes to swords and
fans should use Jiang Wei, though be prepared. He's probably one of the
most difficult to use, but his style is very interesting.
-----------------------------------------------------------

-----------------------------------------------------------
5) Moves and 4th Weapon Description

Moves Key:
S - Square
T- Triangle
Regular Attack - S's

Regular Attack: Kyou-I's first two hits on his regular attack are
focused on one enemy, but the remaining hits are very wide.

Jump Attack: Kyou-I thrusts his spear directly down. This attack may be
done twice.

Mounted Attack/Musou: Kyou-I slashes to his sides, right to left to
right.

Dash Attack: Kyou-I slides a little bit forward, then slashes 180
degrees to his front.

T: Kyou-I slashes almost 180 degrees forward.

ST: Kyou-I's first launcher. He basically thrusts his spear up to launch
his enemy.

SST: Kyou-I thrusts his spear directly forward like his jump attack.

SSST: Kyou-I places both hands on his spear and rams it forward. It has
knockback capability.

SSSST: Kyou-I's second launcher. He thrusts his spear vertically and
swiftly, sorta doing a spin.

SSSSST: Kyou-I throws a straight, narrow energy wave. Has lightning
properties with his 4th weapon.

Musou: Kyou-I twists his spear around to his sides right to left, then
at the end does a nice, powerful slash.

4th Weapon Information:
Elements are a special ability a weapon may be equipped with. They cause
extra damage on certain combos. They are Fire, Lightning, and Death. 4th
weapons give a very high increase to character stats.

4th Weapon: Blink
Element - Lightning
Basic Attack +41
Musou Max +74
Attack +23
Luck +25

How to get Jiang's 4th Weapon: Defeat the eastern forces at Jie Ting --
Zhen Ji and Cao Zhen. After that, a supply team shall show up at the
northwest of Cao Cao / Sima Yi's camp, near the two gate captains. It
will go for the other gate.

There is a popular trick to getting fourth weapons. Pick the person you
want to get the fourth weapon in one of the player slots. Pick a maxed
out, powerful character in the other slot. Then, fulfill the
requirements needed to get the fourth weapon with the maxed out
character, and get the weapon. Afterwards complete the level.

6) Overview and Character Strategy

Let me begin this by speaking of Jiang Wei's weaknesses. His T and ST
are nothing spectacular. His SSST is too unwieldy to use, and thus is
not all that good of a crowd-clearer. Jiang's 4th Weapon seems to be
lacking in stats. His Jump Attack is not good for knocking off people
from their mounts.

Jiang Wei does have a lot going for him. Although his SSST is useless
for crowd-clearing, or rather for anything, his SSSSST sort of fills
that void due to the lightning -- that and his regular attack, which is
awesome. Why do I say that? Because I find that Jiang's regular attack
is great for controlling crowds. It has a wide range, can hit a lot of
people, and defends his back pretty well. This usually isn't true for a
lot of other characters. His Jump Attack, although not good for knocking
off mounted enemies, is really good for comboing -- three hits every
time you press it twice!

His 4th Weapon, although lacking because it only has three extra stats,
is still good. The increase to the Musou gauge is hefty, and that's
good. The attack increase means he can deal a lot of damage. With the
increase to luck comes more item drops from soldiers. More meatbuns,
attack x2, defense x2, and Musou wine items!

I like Jiang's Musou. It's very damaging combined with the attack
increase on his 4th weapon, has very efficient movement, and can combo
very easily. If your doing the Musou and the enemy is directly on top of
you, you can easily for fifteen hits because the enemy keeps hitting the
top of the lance when Jiang twists it. You would do well to equip the
Elixir item.

Jiang Wei is good if you build him up, and I recommend him to veteran
players.

Recommended Equipment:
Peacock Urn
Red Hare Saddle
Elixir
Buckler
Tortoise Amulet

7) Stage Strategy

Yi Ling: Lu Meng and Zhou Yu / Gan Ning have massive life, so they'll be
a problem.

Here's two ways to go about doing this stage.

The first way:
1 - You start in the middle, and relatively near Lu Meng. Kill him
quickly, waste no time.

2 - You can do either of two things here. If you wasted a lot of time
killing Lu Meng, Lu Xun should've already sent Zhu Ran to do the fire
attack. Stop him. Then go for Cheng Pu.
If, however, you were quick in killing Lu Meng, go help out Huang Quan
and defeat Cheng Pu. By then, Lu Xun should've summoned Zhu Ran. Stop
him immediately.

3 - Assist Pang Tong / Huang Zhong and fight Sun Shang Xiang (Pang Tong
/ Huang Zhong may have died by now, however). Once you've defeated her,
go east.

4 - You MIGHT have been quick enough to get to Zhou Yu / Gan Ning to
save Guan Yu / Ma Chao. If not, it doesn't matter. Defeat Zhou Yu / Gan
Ning.
Gan Ning is a tougher opponent than Zhou Yu, as his Musou is more deadly
and Zhou Yu does not know how to use his Musou and will constantly miss
the last hit if your careful.

5 - Your forces should be knocking on Sun Jian's door -- defeat Han Dang
and Lu Xun. It should boost morale.

6 - Kill Sun Quan / Ce / Jian -- whittle down his forces if you have to.

The second way:
Let Lu Xun and Zhu Ran initiate the fire attack. Liu Bei will retreat to
the southwestern camp. Now go to the boat to the left of Sun Quan / Ce /
Jian's initial starting location. Go to the left of the top of it and
snipe at Sun Quan / Ce / Jian. Relatively few soldiers will attack you,
as the AI will stupidly get stuck at the bottom of the boat. Those that
do, waste them. The stage is easily finished.

Wu Zhang Plains: Go to Cao Ren. Leave you horse at the base of the
mountain. Storm him and defeat him. Go down and help out Zhao Yun. To
have an easier time defeating Zhen Ji and Xu Huang, lead them away from
their troops into Zhao Yun's camp and beat the living daylights out of
them. Next go for Cao Hong and Xu Zhu. Do the same you did with Zhen and
Xu by leading them into your ally's (in this case, Ma Dai) camp. Next go
for Sima Zhao and kill him.

Now you can either do one of two things at this point, depending on how
much time is left -- wait for Man Chong's forces and waste him then go
for Cao Xiu and Sun Li, or take a gamble and help out Zhang Bao and Pang
Tong / Wei Yan -- destroy Cao Xiu and Sun Li's forces early to preserve
Zhang bao and Pang Tong / Wei Yan's forces.

Dealing with Cao Xiu and Sun Li is probably the worst part of Wu Zhang
Plains - Shu. There are four layers of defense the enemy has to break
through before getting to Zhuge Liang. They are Wei Yan, Zhang Bao, two
Gate Captains to the south, and Zhang Yi. At least one of these layers
must be in effect to defeat the enemy. If your having a really difficult
time, then get rid of the enemy Gate Captain to the east.

The only thing left to do is to defeat Cao Cao / Sima Yi. First taunt
Sima Yi, then defeat Sima Yi / Zhang Liao (lead him to the base of the
mountain then beat him down). Then go for the enemy Gate Captains.
Afterwards, you could dwindle down Cao Cao / Sima Yi's remaining forces
if necessary. Then defeat Cao Cao / Sima Yi.
-----------------------------------------------------------
8) Stage Flowchart

First: Chang Ban
Second: Chi Bi
Third: Yi Ling
Fourth: Rogue Fortress
Fifth: Nanman Campaign
Sixth: Jie Ting
Final: Wu Zhang Plains
