2) Who is Zhuge Liang?

Zhuge Liang is the Prime Minister of the Shu-Han kingdom. He is also
known as his style name 'Kongming', or his other name 'Sleeping Dragon.'
His parents had died when he was a child, and he moved in with his
uncle. He went to the southern China and became a subsistence farmer. A
very intelligent man, he made good friends, including a person named Xu
Shu. One day Xu visited Zhuge, and told him the general Liu Bei was
coming to visit him. Zhuge was angry with Xu, and Xu left in shame. Liu
Bei, with brothers Guan Yu and Zhang Fei went to visit Zhuge Liang
twice, but he was never home. For the third time, Liu caught Zhuge
sleeping. Zhuge awoke and dressed to greet Liu, and he gave him some
advice. Liu asked Zhuge to join him in his quest to unify China under
the Han dynasty, which had fallen. After a time, Zhuge decided to join
Liu. Zhuge proved to be a very useful asset to Liu Bei as a military,
political, and civil advisor. When Liu formed the Shu-Han kingdom, Zhuge
Liang eventually became the prime minister of Shu-Han. He wrote essays
on generalship and his own treatise on war.

Zhuge Liang died of fatigue at Wu Zhang Plains before he could fight
Wei, at the age of 54. He was buried honorably. His war treatise has
been lost, but his essays on generalship have been preserved as a
compilation known as 'The Way of The General,' which is compiled with
another work in the book 'Mastering The Art of War.'
-----------------------------------------------------------
3) Why would you use this character?

You should play Zhuge Liang if you want to play a character whom is
fairly weak at the beginning, but can grow to become pretty good.
Zhuge's always a challenge to play, since he can't kill as fast as other
characters, yet he does pretty well when all his stats are maxed out and
he has his 4th weapon.
-----------------------------------------------------------

-----------------------------------------------------------
5) Moves and 4th Weapon Description

Moves Key:
S - Square
T- Triangle
Regular Attack - S's

Regular Attack: Zhuge Liang's regular attack is focused mainly in front
of him, so it's difficult to defend your back with just pressing square.

Jump Attack: Zhuge jumps up and thrusts his fan in a frontal wave.

Mounted Attack/Musou: Zhuge throws his fan into a near 180 degrees wave
in front of him - continuously with the Musou version.

Dash Attack: Zhuge throws his fan into a straight, linear direction
forward twirlng, then the fan returns to him.

T: Zhuge's fan spins around him.

ST: Zhuge's first launcher combo. He throws the fan up into the air to
hit the enemy.

SST: Zhuge's stun combo, where he fires a white laser from his fan.

SSST: Zhuge's fan goes around him in a circle as a vertical beam shoots
up in the air and smoke covers the area.

SSSST: Zhuge's second launcher. He puts his fan forward and thrusts it
vertically into the air. Has fire with 4th weapon.

SSSSST: Zhuge fires three lasers to his right, forward, and left
respectively.

Musou: Zhuge starts firing three simultaneous lasers to his left, right,
and forward. He moves forwards while doing so. At the end, he does
multiple lasers to do 4-hits and he recoils back while doing so.

4th Weapon Information:
Elements are a special ability a weapon may be equipped with. They cause
some extra damage on certain combos. They are Fire, Lightning, and
Death. 4th weapons have very high increase to character stats.

4th Weapon: Peacock Feather
Element - Fire
Basic Attack +40
Jump +22
Speed +22
Defense +55
Bow Defense +55
Mounted Defense +55

How to get his 4th Weapon: Defeat Cao Xiu at Wu Zhang Plains - he
appears as reinforcements near Sun Li. The weapon will appear to the
left of Zhuge Liang's starting location.

There is a popular trick to getting fourth weapons. Pick the person you
want to get the fourth weapon in one of the player slots. Pick a maxed
out, powerful character in the other slot. Then, fulfill the
requirements needed to get the fourth weapon with the maxed out
character, and get the weapon. Afterwards complete the level.
-----------------------------------------------------------
6) Overview and Character Strategy

Zhuge is a good character, though he's not exactly one of the best.
Zhuge's ST is very difficult to combo with. His SST only serves basic
functions, though it is long range. He has a pretty short range as well.
His Musou is good only to those who know how to use it effectively -- to
do so, use it on approaching enemy groups and when your surrounded, hit
as many enemies at each direction as best as you can, then use the
ending bounce from his multi-laser attack take you away from a large
portion of the enemy.

His strengths, however, are in his 4th Weapon, his SSST, his SSSST and
his SSSSST. His SSST is great for crowd-clearing -- it covers all three-
hundred-sixty degrees of direction so that it can easily hit everybody,
and it also has good knockback ability. It knocks a lot of enemy
soldiers into others behind them, so it's easy to clear a path. His
SSSSST is quite good at draining enemy life if you manage to combo all
three lasers effectively. His SSSST is actually damaging as a launcher
with Zhuge's fourth weapon. It's best to do it from behind, so that you
can actually let the hit land on the enemy. Please note that many times,
Zhuge's SSST is very hard to do when totally surrounded.

Zhuge has a lot of defense with his Peacock Feather. With all those
defense modifiers equipped on it, Zhuge can take a lot of punishment.
His speed helps him get from one place to another without the use of
either a Speed Scroll item or a horse, and his jump combined with speed
makes him easily able to escape from tight situations.

Overall, Shokatsuryou can be great if controlled by the hands of an
expert player.
-----------------------------------------------------------
7) Stage Strategy

Yi Ling:
A lot of people have trouble with the Yi Ling level. Yi Ling - Shu Side
is actually very easy for any character, and Zhuge is no exception. To
beat Yi Ling, you must have Lu Xun leave his current location by
allowing the fire attack to happen -- something most people recommend
against. Just wait until it does. Liu Bei will go for cover, and it
leaves you free to go north where Lu Xun was before as he leaves to
enter the Stone Warrior Formation. Once there, go to the boat to the
left of Sun Jian / Quan / Ce's starting location. Go to the left of the
top of the boat and snipe at Sun Jian. AI is stupid here, and enemies
will clutter up at the bottom of the boat but they won't be able to
attack you. Some enemies will get to you, but you can get rid of them
easily. All you must do is snipe at Sun Jian / Quan / Ce to finish the
level.

Wu Zhang Plains:
Here is a discussion of playing Wu Zhang Plains. It discusses ways of
getting through Wu Zhang Plains with . This discussion is taken from
3kingdoms.net. Just so you know, MinisterKarasuman is myself.

3/2/2002
Topic Name - Zhuge's fourth: I give up

3/2/2002
Sun Jian: I do. What the hell can I do? Getting the fourth weapon is
easy. It's finishing the stage that's impossible. The only way I think
it can be possible is if you kill Cao Ren, Zhen Ji and Xu Huang first.
Guan Xing's army will assist you when confronting Cao Ren, but then he
goes away and you (and your bodyguards) have to face Zhen Ji's (or Xu
Huang's) army all by yourself. By the time you're done with that army,
Zhao Yun is dead and you have to face Xu Huang (or Zhen Ji) and well all
others.

What do I do?

3/2/2002
RedPanda: I usually took out Sima Zhao, Sun Li, Cao Rui, and Man Chong
on the opposite side of the map, then hurried back to that hill with the
fortress and went to the opposite side, where Jiang Wei's officer is
located and would pick off the enemy generals from there, shooting them
with arrows. I could usually get rid of all three officers that way and
with the officers gone, the enemy soldiers morale is non existant and
Jiang Wei's troops, with your help, can clean up the rest of them and
take out Cao Hong (?) and Xu Zhu as they appear, or you can move to that
outcropping to the north and try to snipe the two there but Cao Hong is
on a horse and seems to get wise to your sniping and rides around a lot.
-_-

3/2/2002
Orlandio: Yeah, I understand what that must be like, I sorta cheated and
got his 4th weapon the easy 2 player way. Make him first player and have
him sit back and use some badass like Dian Wei or Lu Bu to get his
weapon for him. Or if you have a friend you could do 2 players much
easier. I actually got Lu Xun's weapon the way you're trying to get Liu
Bei's, Grand General, single player alone. I had to use the save/quit
reload method alot until the fight went exactly my way. I guess, just
hit the boss, save it, if he hits/kills you, reload, try again. Every
time you get a good hit on him w/o him hitting you, save again. Reset
and reload if he heals, of course.

3/2/2002
Guan_Xing: If you dont really want to cheat (ie use 2 players) then I
guess all you can really do is max him out first, and use the best items
you can get. Strategy wise, you should take out officers first, once
Sima's officers are gone, your guys will charge him. I suggest using way
of the musou or bodyguard manual, bow defense armor, peacock urn, turtle
amulet, tiger amulet. Wind scroll doesnt seem to be doign anything for
me.

3/2/2002
RedPanda: I was using the two player method for a while, but I kept
choosing my hunter character (a maxed out character with a purple
element weapon, a.k.a., Wei Yan) first, as opposed to the gatherer (the
person who needed their fourth weapon), so I'd be facing a hard battle
for my hunter and an impossible battle for my gatherer.

3/2/2002
Guan_Xing: Cao Cao with his fourth is the best 4th weapon hunter.

3/2/2002
Orlandio: Lu Bu was always my usual hunter, or Fu Xi if I wanted to have
fun. Lu Bu seemed to get the job done. Hmmm, wonder why...LOL

3/2/2002
Sun Jian: 2-Player-method doesn't do it for me. I want the character to
get his weapon alone. I guess I'm a stubborn fool.

I have a +11 Attack 3rd Fan for Zhuge Liang. I use 8 Bowmen. SInce they
fire more quickly, they tend to bother the cpu soldiers a lot and
prevents them from attacking too much.
Items: Way of the Musou, Shell Armor(+30), Star Orb(+20), Elixir(+5),
"Defense" Amulet(+27).

My strategy would be:
1. Defeat Cao Ren, Guan Xing helps you out.
2. Defeat Xu Huang
3. Defeat Zhen Ji, saving Zhao Yun's butt
4. Defeat Cao Xiu and Sun Li
5. Get the weapon
6. Defeat Xu Zhu and other north-west forces.
7. Attack Sima Yi

BUT!

After I beat Cao Ren, Guan Xing goes north. Should I follow him and go
kill Xu Zhu and Cao Hong, therefore saving Ma Dai and letting Zhao Yun
die? Then I could face the southern forces with Guan Xing, Ma Dai and
Jiang Wei...Do you think it would work?

Oh yeah, I forgot. "Why do I need other generals with me?" Because they
bring troops with them (and you don't), and these troops act as other
targets for enemy soldiers, giving me a better chance at targetting
whomever I want without having my combo-against-an-officer cancelled by
some Corporal or Guard Captain, thus giving the officer the time he
needs to recover and send me to oblivion.

3/2/2002
Guan_Xing: AHHH I see your problem. I had a feeling it was in the items.

Some questions, did you max out Zhuge's stats (on char select screen)?
How are you losing? Are you dying to generals, archers, or just running
out of time?

-Your elixir is too low, +5 is so little, and its not worth it for an
item slot, especially for a guy that has sucky musou sucky attack range
and low attack.

elixir is really only good for Pang Tong and Gan Ning and others who
rely on their musou attacks but cant really raise it fast enough to use
it consistantly.

My advice, take one of your MAX level generals and do some You Ting runs
(wu side) Search for a post by me about that, it tells where all the
items are. Post for more help on this. What I suggest you do is do about
5 or 6 of these runs, chance are you can get a maxed item, I got so many
maxed items from that stage (using Da Qiao, Xiao Qiao, SSX if you want
to know). Hopefully you can get a near max or max urn, def. ammy and bow
armor. You will probably want to dump that elixir for a peacock urn (60
life makes a difference man) or a tiger amulet. In your case, Tiger
amulet will give you more damage, which will in turn increase your musou
recovery b/c its based on damage. Might want to consider swapping the
way of the musou for bodyguard manual (as Zhuge's Musou sucks and theres
no difference between regular and true musou other than fire damage) and
8 bowmen, they will stun everything that way. As long as you protect
your bodyguards, they protect you, you should be ok. Try to keep one
general (preferably a playable one) in your sights, that way he wont get
killed fast. Think of him as a personal bodyguard.

Your strategy sounds good, when I play Wu Zhang Zhao Yun seems to hold
out longer than Ma Dai can, just keep your moral up. Kill the catapult
guys.

Karasuman, Why don't you write this in as part of your FAQ?

3/2/2002
MinisterKarasuman: Max out Zhuge if you haven't already. In place of the
Way of Musou and Elixir item, put the Red Hare Saddle and the Tiger
Amulet on.

I find the best way to fight is this:
1) Kill Cao Ren, save Guan Xing and Wang Ping. To do this, lure Cao Ren
down the mountain and away from his forces. Then summarily beat him
down.
2) Kill Zhen Ji and Xu Huang -- either one or both. Lead them / one of
them into Zhao Yun's camp. If you can't lead them both, kill the ones
you can lead and leave. Zhao Yun should be able to take care of whoever
is alive well enough.
3) Kill Xu Zhu and Cao Hong. Lead them into Ma Dai's camp and away from
their forces. Kill them 1 on 1. Relatively easy to do. Return to Zhao
Yun to save him if you haven't gotten rid of everybody.
4) Kill Sima Zhao. Most of his forces are occupied at the base of the
mountain with Guan Yu/Zhang Fei.
5) Wait for Wei's reinforcements. Kill Man Chong. Again, lead him to a
place away from his forces. Ignore Deng Ai.
6) If Pang Tong/Wei Yan and/or Zhang Bao are still alive, assist them.
First lead Sun Li into Pang Tong/Wei Yan's camp and kill him 1 on 1. Cao
Xiu is a little tricky, since he has sub-officers. You can still pull
off the 'lure away -- kill' trick.
7) The Shu army should advance. Beat down on Sima Yi and Cao Cao/Zhang
Liao and Sima Yi's forces. Gate Captains are top-priority, get rid of
them first.

That's actually a good idea, Guan_Xing. May I use this topic in my
guide?

3/2/2002
Guan_Xing: MK - feel free, an FAQ is designed to do this, this is a
frequently asked question.

Why red hare saddle? Just wait till the first officer you see, if its on
your side, he will get knocked off, if not on your side, knock him off
and take it. its almost as fast, and you free up a slot for a +life
item.

3/2/2002
MinisterKarasuman: Time is of the essence in Wu Zhang. It's best to use
the fastest horse in the level -- but since he doesn't have Peacock Urn
on, your idea is better Guan_Xing. Life is better than getting around
easier IMHO.

3/2/2002
Zhao-Yun: Liangs 4th was my only problem in the game, well, until I use
Sima Yi most likely as well. Anyway, I did it was 2 players.

I tried using Lu Bu as my character as my stepdad took over Zhuge Liang
for me. But I found Lu Bu sucks at this point for me. Yes, he's maxed
out, but he didn't do as I expected, and I failed horroribly.

So here's what I did.

1st Player(Me)- Gan Ning (You'll see why)
2nd Player- Zhuge Liang(duh)

With Gan Ning, I started out in the southwestern part where Xu Huang and
Zheng Ji are. I quickly killed them off, advanced through the "castle"
while m stepdad waited by for my arrival. We quickly rushed to where Wei
Yan is loacted (Pang Tong as well), and with the oncoming enemy forces,
I had Liang constently use Musou from afar, thus causing damage to the
massive crowd, as they got up, I quickly hit Musou and decimated their
forces. Basicly, hit and run tactic.

When it came time to kill Cao Xiu, me being more experienced at the
game, switched controllers and killed Cao with Liang, then reswitched
controllers back. With Gan Ning, went and grabbed the weapon as Liang
repeatly did his musou from afar to help Wei Yan.

By the time Wei Yan had advanced to Sima Yi, I was well over to Cao Ren,
which was quickly killed, and defeated Xu Zhu. Enemey reinforcements
arrived (Man Chong/Deng Ai), Met up with Liang, wiped out the enemy, and
then defeated Sima Zhao. I wasn't worried about the catapult attacks,
cause if you quickly wipe out Xu Huang and Zheng Ji and get the weapon
only poor Jiang Wei would get the hurt from the attack.

With Zhao Yun saved, Ma Dai and Wei Yan and others now upon Sima Yi's
area, we did the same hit and run tactics till I was able to break
through the massive army somewhat safely and wipe out the gate guards.
By then, Sima Yi's forces were decimated beyond repair, and we made
quick work of Sima Yi.

Also what helps, make sure to use the "Taunt Event" right as you go for
Sima Yi's final forces. This way the effect actually makes a difference.
I tried solo, killed Cao Xiu, got the weapon, and ended up alone. Yes,
completely alone, not one damn soldier on my end alive. Not fun
surrounded like 1,000 to 1 or more. But I took quite a bit of them with
me, and Sima Yi sure as hell felt my wrath lol He just got lucky with a
cheap shot, and those ridiculously strong bodyguards that are harder to
kill than freakin Lu Bu.

4/2/2002
Sun Jian: I guess you're right. These 5 items are those I use with all
characters (leaving the 5th item variable, in case I need more attack
power or a horse).

I'll try Bodyguard Manual, Shell Armor, Defense Amulet, Star Orb and
Peacock Urn.

Doing You Ting runs is another good idea, but the level always takes me
about 25 minutes to complete, so it takes time and patience to fight
through it a few times (ie, it'll have to wait a few days).
Oh yeah, forgot to mention that, yes indeed, my Kongming-kun is maxed. I
had a lot of fun playing through his mosou mode (Normal
difficulty...it's pretty much like Hard for him!), but getting the 4th
weapon got me enraged.

Thanks for the advice, guys! I'll get back to you after I try again to
tell you I got my butt kicked again. (j/k)

4/2/2002:
Guan_Xing: if you fail with the star orb, try using attack up, if its
above 15. but Zhuge tends to get thrashed alot so more axes, armors and
buns will help.
