2) Getting Started

[The Neighborhoods]

-------------
Pleasantview:
-------------

-Story of the town-:

A lot has happened in 25 years! Mortimer Goth made his fortune, the Pleasants
put down roots, and a new generation of Sims was born. But the peaceful, happy
existence is in jeopardy when some new arrivals to Pleasantview start stirring
up trouble, creating rivalries and tensions for all the families in the
neighborhood. Can anything be done to restore the peace to sleepy, idyllic
Pleasantview?

Cassandra's ready to start a family of her own, but can she tame the town
Casanova? And can Mortimer bounce back after the disappearance of his wife,
Bella?

Was it just coincidence that the Caliente sisters arrived on the eve of Bella's
disappearance? And is there interest in Mortimer physical... or fiscal?

Who is Don Lothario? Is his engagement to Cassandra Goth genuine? And what
about the rumor that her mother, Bella, was last seen scaling the deck of his
condo?

Brandi was left to raise two boys alone following her husband's suspicious pool
ladder accident. With Dustin acting out, can Brandi teach young Beau to make
the right choices in life?

On the surface, Daniel and Mary-Sue Pleasant seem to have the perfect life, but
is their love a flimsy facade? And can Angela and Lilith make the right choices
when it comes to love?

Darren's pursuing his dream of being an artist, while his song Dirk hits the
books. Darren may have found his muse, but will his creativity be enough to win
Cassandra's affection?

-Families-

When you load the town, you'll see that there are 6 families already in a
house. These families are the Brokes', Caliente, Dreamer, Goth, Lothario, and
Pleasant. If you look in the family bin, you'll see that there are 2 families
there waiting to be placed into a home. Those families are Burb and Oldie.

-==-

------------
Strangetown:
------------

-Story of the town-:

An aspiration for knowledge has attracted a diversity of truth-seekers to this
small community along the Road to Nowhere. Can they learn to accept their
neighbors, or will their differences clash and spell ruin for the town? And
are the reports of a Bella Goth sighting fact or fiction? In Strangetown,
nothing is what it seems.

In search of truth and mystery, the three Curious brothers, Pascal, Vidcund and
Lazio, got more than they were "expecting." Can they cope with their new roles
as cosmic parents?

After a fruitful career, Pollination Technician 9 has retired to his favorite
planet. Can his son Johnny make friends and fit in, or is this family just too
strange for Strangetown?

What experiments are the highly secretive and less than neighborly Loki and
Circe Beaker performing on poor Nervous Subject? Will this secrecy affect
Circe's career ambitions?

Tank has always lived under the hard thumb of his father, General Buzz Grunt.
In this domesticated boot camp, can Tank prove his worth to this demanding Dad?

Who's buried in Olive Specter's garden? Will the mysterious, aging outcast
leave her fortune to her niece Ophelia, or, as rumored, to an unnamed heir?

-Families-:

Like Pleasentview, there are default families in the bin and already in houses.
The families that are in houses are Beaker, Curious, Grunt, Smith, and Spector.
The ones in the bin are Loner and Singles.

-==-

------------
Veronaville
------------

-Story of the town-:

Two houses, alike in dignity... The Capps and Monty's have been feuding for
years, but that hasn't stopped the younger generation from crossing boundaries
and falling in love. Will their actions lead to ruin, or bring the families
together?

Patrizio Monty never forgot Consort Capp's broken promise. But now his grandson
Romeo has fallen for the Capp heiress. Will the Elders live to see the two
families united?

Juliet Capp has fallen for Romeo, golden child of the rival Monty clan. Can
the Capps set aside their grudge and put Juliet's happiness first?

The Summerdreams' kindly nature and zest for life have cast a romantic spell
over Veronaville's youth. But will there be any magic left for Puck?

-Families-:

Again, we have the different families in the bin as well in houses. The
families that are located in the houses are Capp, Monty and Summerdream. In the
bin is Capp, Capp, Monty and Monty.

--------------
Community Lots
--------------

Community Lots is a place that your sims can meet up in. To head to one, pick
up a phone with your sim and call a taxi. From there, pick the lot you wish to
go to. There are two to three different ones in each neighborhood. On these
lots your sims can enjoy a BBQ, buy some new clothes, buy magazines and games.
This also allows to you make new friends by meeting some of the townies.

You can also build your own lot. All you need to do is lay down a green square
of land and setting it as a community lot. There you can enter it and build
whatever you like on it. Money isn't an issue here since you have no limit. So
feel free to let your imagination run wild.

[Creating a Sim]

-Create a Sim with Bodyshop-

Before the Sims 2 was released, people had the option to make Sims and more
with something called "Bodyshop". If you have installed the Sims 2, you most
likely already have Bodyshop installed. To launch it, just go to your EA
Games folder from the Start Menu. From there, you are given a screen with a
list of various sims. You can clone of them or create something new. If you
want to clone a sim, select the sim you want to clone and click the icon with
two sim figures and a check mark on it. Now all you need to do is make it so
the sim is the way you want him/her to be.

To create a brand new sim, launch bodyshop as described above. When you reach
the screen with the different sims, click on the big box with the Plus (+) in
it. Here, you'll see on the left various things like gender, age, fitness, etc.
Just click on them to customize your sim the way you want her/him to be.

-==-

-Create a Sim in Game-

Creating a Sim in the game is a bit different then using bodyshop. To create a
sim in the game, you need to launch it. From there, choose the neighborhood you
want the Sim(s) to live in. When the neighborhood loads, you'll see the family
bin on the bottom. You should see a big button to the left with a family and a
plus (+) sign on it. Click it to start creating your family. Just like in
bodyshop, you'll see various things to the right. Instead of pictures, they are
numbers. Click on the numbers for the different clothes, genetics, etc for your
sim.

Small Note: If you have made more then one sim, make sure you set the family
relationships before leaving or it will complain that you didn't.

**Desperation Action**

As far as I know, there's no desperation action for a toddler or a child. It's
probably due to the fact they don't have a set aspiration yet.

[Sims' Personality]

When you make a sim, you get to choose their personality. This allows them to
be nice, neat, active and so on. This is usually based off of their
astrological sign. Changing the skills changes their sign. Below you'll find
out about their different traits of sims.

-Neat vs. Sloppy-

Sloppy Sims have the habit of not picking up after themselves, flushing the
toilet or making the bed. Neat Sims have no problem doing that, taking out the
trash, or cleaning up rotten food. If you have a sloppy sim, it's best to hire
a maid to clean up.

-Active vs. Lazy-

Lazy sims just want to lounge on the couch and watch TV. They don't much care
for any physical activity such as working out. A lazy sim who watches TV tends
to get more fun from it then an active sim. Active sims like to work out or
go swimming. Active sims also have the ability to run anywhere even if it is
only a few feet in front of them.

-Shy vs. Outgoing-

Shy sims don't like to socialize much with other sims. They much prefer to
stick to themselves. This also allows their social bar to decrease at a slower
rate. Outgoing sims love to talk to other sims. These types of sims also have
the habit of saying something every time they enter a room with other sims. A
sim who is very outgoing will enter a hot tub naked.

-Serious vs. Playful

Serious sims don't like to 'play'. Instead, they find it more fun to play chess
then to be tickled. Usually a serious sim will earn logical skills faster then
any other sim as well. Playful sims love to tickle people and be tickled. They
get more social from playing then a serious sim would.

-Grouchy vs. Nice-

Grouchy sims have a very hard time getting along with other sims. These are
the type of sims that like to poke your sim and cause fights. These sims also
have the option to prank call someone but only if you have no points in this
area. Nice sims on the other hand, have no problem making friends.

-Sims' Interests-

Each sim you meet or make has different interests and how much they like that
interest. This means a sim can be really into animals but don't care much for
money. The more interests you have in common with another sim, the easier you
will get along with them. You can change their interests by going to a
community lot and picking up various magazines. Reading these magazines will
affect what interests you'll change. Below you'll see the different magazines
and what interest(s) they affect.

[Sims' Motives]

-Hunger-

Just like us, Sims need to eat. If the hunger bar reaches zero, then your sim
dies. To keep it up, all you need to do is feed your sim by having them cook
something then eating it. The bar will go down faster when your sim is sick,
pregnant.

-Hygiene-

As the day goes on, your sim will slowly lose hygiene. Working out will cause
your sims' hygiene to decrease faster. Peeing their pants also makes them lose
their hygiene. To fix this, just send your sim to a shower or a bath. If it is
in use, your sim will go to a sink and do a sponge bath.

-Environment-

This stat tells you how much your sim likes the room. If it gets too low, they
tend to complain about it. You will have zero environment if your sim is in a
broken shower. Cheap items also makes the score low. In order to improve it,
you need to fix whatever is broken, clean up the room they are in or just add
better items like paintings or new furniture.

-Fun-

If your sims' fun gets too low, they refuse to do anything until it is brought
up. There are many ways to get this up. Lazy sims like TV and active sims will
gain more fun by swimming or working out. You also can have a sim play a game
on the computer or with the gaming console.

-Social-

The more outgoing the sim is, the more they want to talk to other sims. If it
gets too low, a social bunny will drop from the sky. With the social bunny,
you can do any action to it, including fight it. You can avoid the bunny by
having your sims call their friends or have meals with other sims in the house.
They also can chat online and gain social that way. As long as your sims
interacts with another sim, their social will go up.

-Bladder-

The bladder meter just tells you when your sim needs to go to the bathroom.
Sims are usually pretty smart and go to the bathroom on their own. In case they
don't, you'll need to click on a toilet and make them go. If a sim fails to go
to the bathroom, they will go in their pants, causing their hygiene to be zero.
Drinking coffee and being pregnant will make your sims bladder go down quicker.

-Energy-

This tells you how tired your sim is. It will go down throughout the day. If a
sim gets their bar in the red, they will pass out wherever they are and sleep
there. In order to prevent that, you can have the sim drink coffee, nap on a
couch/chair or even go to bed. Doing workouts and swimming will decrease this
bar even faster.

-Comfort-

Comfort is important because it can raise your sims' energy bar faster. This
will increase every time a sim sleeps or sits down. The better quality of the
object the sim sleeps/sits on, the faster their energy and comfort goes up.

[Sims' Skills]

-Logic-

This skill is usually needed for the career paths. It helps to start off by
learning this skill as quickly as you can. Knowledge sims seem to get the most
out of this skill. To learn logic, have your sim sit at a chess table or go
look through the telescope.

-Cleaning-

This is a new skill in the Sims 2. This skill is used in a few different jobs.
Other then that, it doesn't really seem to have a purpose. To learn cleaning,
just have your sim clean anything that is dirty -- like a sink, shower, toilet.
Sims can also learn cleaning by studying it from a book.

-Body-

Body is a good way to help keep sickness at bay. It also is needed for some
jobs. To gain body, just have your sim work out on a workout machine or have
them work out in front of the TV.

-Mechanical-

Mechanical is good for fixing broken things in the house without having to hire
a repairman. By repairing everything yourself, you slowly build up the skill.
You also can learn it by reading from a book. This skill is used in many
careers as well. One downside when repairing, don't repair electrical items
unless your mechanical skill is very high. If not, you run the risk of shocking
your sim and possibly killing them.

-Creativity-

Creativity is a skill that some careers have. This also is the only skill you
need to make money from home. You gain this skill by either writing a novel or
by painting a picture on the easel.

-Cooking-

Cooking is a vital skill in the sim world. The higher the cooking your sim has
the better food they will make. This skill is also needed for a few careers.
Cooking skills allow you to help prevent fires while you are cooking. To gain
cooking, you need to cook or learn it from a book.

-Charisma-

This skill will allow you to make friends faster as well as be required for a
few jobs. You'll find that romance and popularity sims like to gain this even
if it is not required for their job. This skill also will help your sim to tell
better jokes. To learn charisma, have your sim stand in front of a mirror and
choose practice speech.

[Sims' Life]

-Aging and Death-

The new aspect in the Sims 2 is the fact sims can grow old and pass away.
During each stage, you have a set amount of days before your sim will change
into the next stage of life. You can prevent your sims from aging by using the
"aging off" cheat. You also can help increase the number of days your sims has
left by drinking the "Elixir of Life". This will allow your sims to have 3 days
added to their life when it is used right. Also toddlers and children are
"Death proof". That means they can't die in a fire, be scared to death, or
anything of that sort.

Death in the Sims 2 just doesn't occur from old age. You can die from being
sick as well as being scared to death. As each sims die, they will get an urn
or a tombstone. If the sim died while in platinum, their tombstone will be gold
with their aspiration on it. This will only happen if they are of old age.

-Ghost Colors-

As a sim dies, they are usually assigned a color - depending on how they died.
Below are the colors of the sims' ghost when they died from anything other then
old age.

Pink - A sim was scared to death by another ghost.
Green - A sim died from a disease or a cold left untreated.
Yellow - a Sim died while trying to repair an electrical item. They now have
sparks coming from their body as they walk around.
Blue - A Sim was drowned to death. They will walk around your house leaving
puddles of water.
Orange - Your sim was killed by a satellite.
Purple - Your sim was killed by a swarm of flies.
Red - Your sim died in a fire. They will have smoke coming off of them.
White - Your sim died of old age.
White but Transparent - Your Sim died on hunger. They will steal food from your
fridge, thus depleting your own supplies.

-Ghost Actions-

When a Ghost comes back to haunt you, they will usually leave some sign for you
to let you know that they were there.

The Ghost will do these actions as they haunt your house - Turn on/off
TV/Stereo for you to see. Ghost also love to make the toy teddy bear's head
spin around. You also may see a Ghost lift a dinning room chair, even if your
sim is in one. They may causing a tub to fill with water -- This will be dirty
if they are in a bad mood. For example, selling their items or have a sim
re-marry. Flowers and shrubs tend to die if a Ghost is around. Ghosts also love
to make the Incision Precision dummy and xylophone move by itself. Ghosts will
lay with the microwave if you have one. They will cause it to float as well as
open the door by itself. Also don't be surprised if you see a broken lamp in
your house from a ghost. That will happen if you put them into a bad mood.

-Love and Relationships-

Just like the Sims 1, you need to work on keeping friends as well as
relationships up. To do this, you need to call the sim or invite them over.
You'll need to keep friends in order to progress in your sims' job. Keeping
relationships high also will help your sims' keep their social up. For love
relationships, you'll need to get to know the sim pretty well. Once your
relationship is high enough with that sim, you can do a romantic action to make
your sim fall in love with the other sim. From there, you can have your sim
propose and get married. Once your sim is married, you can't get a divorce
or break up until either one of the sims die or you catch your partner cheating
on your sim. If you catch them cheating, you'll be given the option to break
up. You can have multiple lovers at once but you can only have one married or
engagement. Only adults and elders have the option to get married. You can be
friends with a teen or child sim but you can't have any romantic interactions
with them.

-Pregnancy/Child Birth-

Having kids is a new aspect in the Sims 2. Before, you could only adopt. With
having kids, you can actually have kids that look like your own sims. Pregnancy
only lasts 3 full sim days. When the time is up, the sim will stop whatever
they are doing, grab their stomach and complain. You'll see a small video of
the child birth then you'll have the baby in your arms. Your sim has 3 extra
days off to take care of the child. If your child or baby is alone in the house
when your sim has to go to work, they will refuse to go. It's best to hire a
nanny so you can send your sims off to work. Also note that males CAN get
pregnant in this game as well. The only way they are able to is to be abducted
by aliens. They will return in a few days pregnant. If males get abducted, they
will ALWAYS return pregnant. Females, on the other hand, can get abducted, but
they will NEVER return pregnant. You also run the risk of getting twins in the
Sims 2. There is no diet that will always make it happen. It is a random chance
that it will.

-Parties-

Every house that has a sim in it can throw a party. These parties can be
birthday, wedding, anniversary or house parties. Birthday parties can be
thrown when a sim is about to change into the next age group. Wedding parties
can be thrown when your sim is about to be married. Anniversary is usually
thrown when your sims get married ad a adult then stay married into their elder
years. House parties are just like normal parties. You can throw them as you
live in your house for a certain amount of time. As you throw a party, you will
have different levels of success with it. The higher the score, the better. To
have a great party, make sure you interact with your guests. That means having
a group chat, video games, as well as feeding them. It's best to have group
activities during parties in order to have a high score. It also helps to
invite sims you have a high relationship with.

A Total Disaster

-Public/Private Schools-

A public school is just like a private school, expect their fun drops faster.
All children and teenagers will start out in a public school. In order to get
them into a private one, you'll need to invite the headmaster over. Below you
will find the basic hours for a public school and the days they attend.

Children
Carpool: 8:00 AM
Transportation: School Bus
Hours: 9:00 AM - 3:00 PM

Days Attend: Monday - Friday

Teenager
Carpool: 8:00 AM
Transportation: School Bus
Hours: 9:00 AM - 1:00 PM
Outfit: Everyday outfit
Days Attend: Monday - Friday

-Private School-

One big advantage to going to a private school is that teens with jobs will
start off at level 2 instead of level 1. Also, fun seems to decrease slower at
a private school then a public one. In order to gain access to the private
school, you will need to invite the headmaster over and impress him. To do that
you'll need to have a clean house, server dinner as well as give a tour of your
house.

4) Making a Home

[Building a Home]

-Build Mode-

This mode is where you will construct your house. You are given various tools
in order to do so. You can add paint, carpet and get a general layout of the
house here. To do a layout, just follow the foundation tutorial of sorts. From
there, add your carpet, paint, windows, doors, and anything else you see fit.

-Buy Mode-

With your new house done, you'll need to add items to it like beds, ovens,
refrigerators and everything else. Later on, you'll find a list of all the
items that are offered in the Sims for you to use to make your house. It is
best to start of with cheap stuff when making a home for new sims. You can
upgrade everything else when you have a job and some more money.

-Decks and Foundations-

In order to build a deck, you'll see to get a foundation of sorts going. Use
the deck/foundation tool to lay one out. From there, add on more rooms and
stairs or a door to access the deck.

The foundation is the support for the house. This can be done with the
foundation tool. Make a room and add onto to it as you like. From there,
add paint and carpets to the room as needed. You can also go up a level and add
another level to the foundation if you are looking to build a many story house.

-Basement-

Building a basement make seem impossible but is isn't. It just takes a lot of
time and effort to build. Below you'll find a guide to help you achieve in
making a basement.

1. Make a Foundation and leave and extra tile on each side.

2. Now you need to remove the inside of the foundation. To do so, take the
foundation tool again and hold ctrl. Now drag a box across it to remove the
inside of the foundation. Make sure to leave a one-tile border.

3. Now add a bordered wallpaper to the foundation inside box. **You can change
this after you are done**

4. Now lower the terrain to the border on the walls. All you need to do is one
area. From there, you can lower the terrain with the level terrain tool.

5. Now choose a staircase, and you're done.

-Chance Cards-

Chance cards are small boxes of information that makes you make a choice for a
certain scenario. The out come of the card is determined when it appears. There
can be a right and wrong answer as well as two wrong answers. The seem to pop
up every so often in every career. When you see one, you have 3 choices. The
first 2 are the answers to use if you want to try your hand at it. The last one
allows you to ignore it.

Some possible outcomes from the cards is money, a promotion, gain skill points,
lose skill points, be demoted or even fired. It's best to save each time your
sim goes to work. This allows you to restart your game if you answer a card
wrong.

If you have one not listed, please feel free to submit it to me.

his/her researchers has inadvertently stumbled upon a new lithium isotope. Not

staplers will be worth a fortune. So it's that ____ finds him/herself with a
bit of a conundrum. Ethics would obviously say that s/he should inform the

Being creative allows you to pain a picture on a easel. This is a good way to
make some money and fast. In order to paint, you need to buy an easel. Once you
have it bought, send a sim over to it and click on it to paint. It helps if

Novelist

Being a Novelist can take time in order to make some cash. You'll need a lot
of creativity in order to make a great novel. A novel will be complete in about
3 Sim days. To do so, you sit the sim at the computer and choose to write a
novel. The more creativity, the better chance the novel will sell well. Make
sure the sim is in a good mood each time you write the novel. Once it is done,
you'll have a message saying you finished it. A phone call should be on its
way after it so be ready for it. You will earn money if the book sells well.

6) Miscellaneous

[FAQS]

Here are some of the commonly asked questions that I have seen. These come from
looking on the message boards as well as reading various forums.

1. Can my computer handle the sims?

A1 - If your system meets the requirements, then yes it will run the game.

2. Where can I find Mods for my sims?

A2 - You can search google for Sims2 Mods or search for forums that have them.

3. Why can't I build anything or even buy something?

A3. You either need to get rid of your no-cd crack or you need to go buy the
game.

4. How do I get twins? Is there a special diet or something?

A4. There is no special diet. You either keep trying normally or down load
a mod to better increase your chances of having them.

5. How do I make my sims go to school or work?

A5. Usually, sims are smart enough to do this by themselves. In they don't,
just click on the bus or car and choose go to school/work.

6. Do I need the Sims 1 in order to play the Sims 2?

A6. Nope. All you need is the Sims 2 and the system requirements.

7. How do I remove the censor patch over my sims?

A7. Look in the cheat codes section for the censorgrid cheat.

8. Are there any expansions for the Sims 2?

A8. So far, there is only University. No, this guide doesn't cover it.

9. My baby won't grow up! What do I do?

A9. Try buying a birthday cake and have someone bring the baby to it. That
should allow the baby to grow up.

10. Can I import my cities from SimCity 4?

A10. Yes. There should be an option when you are on the neighborhood screen
to import your city or make a new one.

11. Can I add my own music to the sims?

A11. Yes. You place it in
C:\Documents and Settings\UserName\My Documents\The Sims 2\Music

-Custom Content-

Adding it to your game:

When you download custom content (like clothes or skins), you'll need to place
them in the download folder before they will show up in either BodyShop or in
Game. The downloads folder is usually located here:
C:\Documents and Settings\UserName\My Documents\The Sims 2\Downloads

Once in there, it will show up in bodyshop and in the game. You can then create
new sims with the custom content or just change clothes for your sim in game
if needed.

Making your own Custom Content:

To make your own, you'll need a graphics program like Paint Shop Pro or
Photoshop. When you have one of those, open bodyshop and export the item you
want to make (like clothing, skins). Now, open the files up in your graphics
program. From there, you can add textures, change colors or add whatever you
want to the content. Once you saved it, export it back in with bodyshop. It'll
now be in your game for you to use as well as in bodyshop.
