One quick thing before I begin. This is by no means exactly what
is said in the manual. I translated it as best I could after play-
ing this game for three or four days straight. I make no claims as
to the accuracy of the translation, and if anyone has corrections,
please e-mail me and let me know what needs to be changed.

Another thing. This is not just my faq, this faq belongs to all of
you. I don't ride on name recognition, or think that the only way
to provide info is to trash the hard work of other people to
promote my own stuff. IMO, this is a really piss-poor attitude to
take. If you, the reader, know of whom I speak, I spoke to him and
said that co-operation would be better, but no. He had to ignore
me and go appease his own ego. This attitude sickens me, but I
guess that everyone has to do things in their own way. And to you,
sir, you know who you are, I have one word for you.....karma.

A quick guide to the abbreviations which I will be using:

O is the circle button
X is the X button
T is the Triangle Button
S is the Square button
D is the directional pad

The rest are pretty self-explanatory. If something is confusing,
e-mail me and I'll put it in.

Quick and general explanation of the controller:

L1, L2, R1, R2:
-In a 1 on 1 match, taunt. A different taunt can be done by
pressing one of these buttons and D at the same time.
-In a 4 player match, tag or battle royal, these buttons will
shift your attention to the corresponding player (as indicated
at the top of the screen, or will taunt, if you hit the button
which corresponds to your wrestler.
The Directional Pad (D):
-Used to navigate menus, moves your wrestler around during a
match, or used in conjunction with different buttons to execute
a different move than normal. For the moves, refer to the move
list for each wrestler.
The Triangle Button (T):
-Used to execute a submission hold.
The Circle Button (O):
-Used to execute a grappling technique.
The X Button (X):
-Used to execute a strike technique.
The Square Button (S):
-The action button, used for many different things. For spe-
cifics, consult the section about this button towards the end
of this document.
The Start Button:
-Used to begin a match using full ring entrances.
The Select Button:
-Used in conjunction with the Start Button to exit back to the
"Front Menu."

Special Note:
-To give up during a match, press down+L1+R1+X.

Using the Shoulder Buttons (L1, L2, R1, R2)
-In a 4-player match, each shoulder button corresponds to a player
as follows:

L1=Player 1 R1=Player 2
L2=Player 3 R2=Player 4

-During a match, if you hit a button that is not the button repre-
senting your player, you will switch your focus on whichever
player it represents.
-If you hit the button which corresponds to you, you will do a
taunt.

Ways to win or lose a match:
-When a player is pinned for a count of 3 (by the referee), the
opposing team or player is declared the winner.
-When a player submits (see also:Explanation of HP), the opposing
team or player is declared the winner.
-When a player is on the floor area for a count of 20 (by the
referee), the other team or player is declared the winner. This
count is broken when the player gets back up on the ring apron
or in the ring, or when another player descends to the floor
area.
-If a player has the opponent in a submission hold, and the
opponent manages to reach the ropes (by pounding buttons), the
referee will begin a count. If the referee has reached a count
of 5 and the player has not released the hold by hitting S, that
player will be disqualified and the other team or player will be
declared the winner.
-When a player's overall HP drop below a certain point, it is con-
sidered a "Knockout" or "KO" and the decision is awarded to the
other team or player.

Player Settings --> Character Selection

-If people other than P1 wish to play, they must press the Start
button at the first player settings screen, when the picture of
the controller is highlited. When everyone has bought in, P1
must press O.
-After P1 presses O, you can adjust which players are controlled
by which controller, and which are controlled by the computer.

-Character selection:
1.Player (only in tag or 10 man tournament)
2.Federation
3.Specific character in the selected federation
4.Type (1 or 2) of costume design for the character

Game Play and Controls

T - Submission
O - Grapple Technique
X - Strike Technique

Triple Counter System
-Grapple beats Submission
-Strike beats Grab
-Submission beats Strike

-If both players hit T at the same time, they will go into a collar
and elbow tie-up, and whoever hits the buttons fastest will win
and execute their submission.
-If both players hit O at the same time, they will go into a power
grapple, and again, fastest button pusher wins, and suplexes the
opponent.

Some notes on game play:

-First of all, there are 3 different statuses when standing:
+Normal (N) - Able to do anything
+Small Groggy (SG) - Unable to do anything except pound
buttons to get back to normal status. Player is just standing
there, rocking back and forth a bit.
+Large Groggy (NG) - Same as SG, except instead of rocking back
and forth a little bit, player staggers all over the place.
-Different moves can be executed depending on a player's condition.

-O, X, and T are pretty straightforward, but the S button need a
bit of explanation.

-When the opponent is standing pressing S will throw them behind
you. If your back is to the corner, they will be slumped in the
corner, but if you are right next to the corner, you will slam
their head into the top turnbuckle. It's the same deal with the
barrier railing when you are on the floor, or with the ringpost.
If you're near the middle of the apron with your back to it and
you hit S, you will throw your opponent to the floor (if you're
in the ring) or back into the ring (if you're on the floor).
All of this is with the opponent right next to you.
-When the opponent is standing and SG or LG, double-tapping S
will turn them 180 degrees. If they're on the ground and you're
near their torso, double-tapping S will flip them over.
-Near the ropes, tap S while pressing either towards the outside
(if you're in the ring) or towards the ring (if you're on the
floor), and you'll go to the apron. Do it again and you'll be
on the floor or ring. Double-tapping will get you directly from
the floor to the ring or from the ring to the floor.
-When the opponent is down on the mat, stand near their head or
feet. If you, without hitting D, tap S once, you'll stand them
up facing you, and if you tap S twice, you'll stand them up with
their backs to you.

There are some other parts of gameplay which aren't immediately
obvious:

-There is a move linking system. If you have the Snapmare
Takedown, you can do a submission by pressing T right after
pressing O, and you can do a strike by pressing X right after
pressing O. If your character has an arm breaker, hitting X
right after hitting T will make your character smash the
opponent's shoulder after they break the arm. There are about
10 different variations of the Snapmare link, so refer to the
moves list for each character for the specific moves which
follow the Snapmare.

-All characters have special finishing ("gold") sequences. At
the end of the sequence, when you hit the last move, your name
will briefly have a golden rectangle around it. When this
happens, whatever you are doing hurts the opponent a hell of a
lot more than it normally would.
-Rush mode is a little something different. If you are really
getting beaten, your name will start flashing and the crowd will
start cheering your name. At this point, there are supposedly
special moves which you can do only at this time. They are
harder to find than Whitewater documents, so if anyone finds
these out, please let me know. Also, if anyone knows the Kanji
for Rush Mode, please send me a .jpg or something so I can find
out where it is in Edit mode.

Hit Points:
-Each wrestler's vitality is determined by the amount of "HP"
that they have. There is an overall HP (if this drops low
enough, you get KO'd) as well as separate HP counts for four
different areas of the body: head, arms, legs, torso. If a
submission hold is applied to an area when that area's HP is too
low, the player who is the victim of the submission will submit.
When the HP of the head area gets low enough, blood will flow
from the forehead. The blood looks VERY good in this one, much
better than NJPW2, which was pretty decent in its own right.

Double Team Moves:
In 4 player battles (tag or battle royal), double-team moves can
be performed. The move performed depends upon position in the
ring, position relative to the opponent, what character the
attacking players are using, and which button is pressed.

Moves when opponent is slumped in the corner:
There has been some confusion over these, just stand in the
opposite corner and press and hold X.

Diving out of the ring moves:
Again, confusion reigns. Stand more than halfway across the
ring away from the opponent, and press and hold X.
