The year is 2007. A Marine's Corp. Discovery Tanker disguised as a
ship makes its way down the Manhattan harbor. Inside of the holds of
the Tanker contains a new anti-Metal Gear prototype. This new
prototype can literally wipe the floor with the other models.

The lone operative, Solid Snake, now a member of "Philanthropy", makes
his way across the George Washington Bridge. His mission is to obtain
evidence of the new Metal Gear prototype and get off of the Tanker
before it reaches the Verrazano Bridge.

B A C K U P S Q U A D

The reinforcement soldiers are a mean bunch. This squad is made up of
two enemy soldiers. Don't think that it will be easy just because there
are only two soldiers. Each backup soldier wears a bullet proof vest
(a flak jacket), carries a shield (not often), a pistol and an assault
rifle. These squads are a lot tougher to take out, they have better
skills then the normal soldiers. For example, while in a fire fight
with you, they will roll out of the way of your spray bullets and
then fire at you. They also like to corner you in a small area and
throw grenades at you trying to lure you out or circle around you.

My favorite thing about the backup squad is that if they see you enter
a room (Pantry or Locker Room), they will begin a clearing. Both
soldiers enter the room out the same time, one soldier will stop and
watches one side of the room while the other circles around through
the room. If no one is found, they will exit the room. But if they
find you, I hope that you have enough RATIONS.

E N E M Y S O L D I E R S

My favorite thing about the original Metal Gear Solid was how stupid
the soldiers were (Who's that? What's in the box? Where'd he go?). But
don't think that your dealing with some dumb nails this time around.
The enemy soldiers are a lot smarter then before. Soldiers now carry
radios with themselves. When an intruder is spotted, they will get out
of the intruders field of vision and radio for backup. In order to
avoid them from radioing for backup is by either shooting their radio
while it's in their hand or take them out completely. The only bad part
about this is that the soldiers tend to knock the leaving crap out of
you sending you to the ground before radioing for backup. And by the
time you get up its too late.

F I R S T P E R S O N V I E W M O D E

One thing that has really improved is the first person view mode. By
pressing and holding the R1 button while a weapon is equipped. Press
the Square button to draw the weapon. You will be able to aim and fire
a weapon in first person view mode.

H A N G I N G M O D E

When you are next to rail and press the Triangle button, Snake will
automatically jump over the side of rail and hang onto the ledge. You
have now entered hanging mode. While in Hanging Mode, a Grip Gauge
will appear and it will be to drain. Once this Grip Gauge is completely
drained, Snake will lose his grip and fall. If Snake is on the second
floor and falls to the first floor of the ship, then he will be okay.
But if he falls from the third floor of the ship he will take damage.
You don't even want to ask me what happens to Snake if you are hanging
from the side of the ship and fall into the water.

You can also be able to jump off the side of the third floor of the
ship and land on top of an enemy soldier on the first floor. In order
to drop down from Hanging mode, you would have to press the X button.

H O S T A G E

In order to take a soldier hostage, you would have to run up to an
enemy soldier and grab him by the neck and start dragging him. If you
drag the soldier in the opposite direction of the soldiers firing at
you, they will hesitate to fire and follow you, until either the
soldier breaks free or you snap his neck.

H O L D U P

If you sneak up behind an enemy soldier and hold the Square button to
draw your gun (making certain that it is equipped first), the enemy
solider will drop his assault rifle down to his side and place his
hands in the air. If you move to the front of the guard and use first
person view mode to aim the gun at his head, chest or groin. The enemy
soldier will begin shaking and may drop a random item or weapon such
as CHAFF GRENADES or DIAZEPAM.

I N T E R A C T I V E E N V I R O N M E N T S

The surrounding environments have been improved thoroughly. For example,
you can even shoot a plant or beer bottles behind the bar. Or shoot
the watermelons in the Pantry. That's how detailed the game is when it
comes to the minor details.

I T E M S

The newest items that have been added to the game, are BANDAGES. Once
Snake has taken a massive amount damage, he will begin to bleed and his
life will drain. Blood will begin to drop from Snake onto the ground.
If an enemy soldier notices a blood stain on the ground from Snake
losing blood, the enemy soldier will begin to follow it. By using a
BANDAGE, Snake will stop bleeding. Stealth is a major part of this
game, and to keep it that way you have to have CARDBOARD BOXES. There
are two types of CARDBOARD BOXES, a wet one and a dry one. The wet one
can be used while outside of the ship in the rain while the dry one
can be used while inside. But this want stop the enemy soldiers from
coming over to the CARDBOARD BOX and investigate. You know your had
when the guard kicks the box and then bends over to pick it up. Another
nice gadget is the V SENSOR. When the V SENSOR is equipped, it will
begin to make Snake's heart pound faster when an enemy soldier is near.
But will beat slower when an enemy soldier is not as close. This
gadget is really necessary under a higher difficulty setting that
will not allow you to use the Radar Map. Other items like the RATION
and DIAZEPAM return from the first one. And even Snake's favorite
brand of CIGARETTES.

S E N S I T I V E C O N T R O L S

The controller is also sensitive touch. For example, if you press the
direction button very soft in one direction, Snake will walk, but if
you press the direction button hard in one direction, Snake will run.
If you press the L2 or R2 buttons very soft, you will equip and discard
the previously selected item or weapon. But if you press the L2 or B2
buttons hard, you will bring up the item inventory or weapon menus.

W E A P O N S A N D R E L O A D A N I M A T I O N S

You are given a bigger selection of guns to choose from now. The first
one is an M9 TRANQUILIZER GUN (which is your main weapon that you start
the game with), and the USP HANDGUN (similar to an SOCOM PISTOL but
without the Suppressor), You can also find CHAFF and STUN GRENADES as
well during the demo disc. Each gun and weapon is very detailed. For
example, the gun reload animations. After using all the bullets in one
clip of ammunition, Snake will take out that clip and replace it with
a fresh clip. The empty clip, will be kept in your Weapon Inventory.
This EMPTY MAGAZINE can be thrown near a soldier to distract them or
you can simply mess around with the soldiers, by throwing it at them
and hitting them directly in the head. They will never know what hit
them.

The enemy soldiers are equipped with AKS-74u Assault Rifles. The
reloading animation of the enemy soldier's guns have been improved as
well. When an enemy soldier runs out of ammo for their gun, they will
drop the empty clip and place a fresh one in their gun. You will be
able to see the empty clip drop to the floor.

If you have the USP HANDGUN equipped, you can shoot an enemy soldier in
the head to kill him instantly or in the groin and he will start to
drop down to the ground holding himself. Wherever you shoot the guard
you will get a different response for that specific area. If you shoot
the guard in the arm while holding him up. He will drop his arm down to
his side and it will start shaking or if you shoot him in the leg, his
leg will start to collapse out from under him. There are lots of
different responses for shooting a guard on any area of his body.

The Unofficial Truth"

Some topics in the recent American past have the immediacy and the
power that engage our collective imagination still. Names like The
Grassy Knoll, or Roswell, roll off our tongue with deliberateness
reserved by most other nations for holy lands. With this new non-fiction
account from Nastasha Romanenko, Shadow Moses-the scene of a nuclear
siege two years ago-is set to join their ranks.

Official history states that the takeover of a nuclear weapons disposal
facility on a lonely outpost in the Fox Islands, Alaska was the work of
a radical right-wing group. Their demands for the release of group
members incarcerated in federal penitentiaries were never met, and the
incident was speedily resolved by the successful deployment of a
commando unit. BS, the author asserts. Romanenko says that she served
as an advisor to the Nuclear Emergency Search Team, and deconstructs
what she claims to be a cover-up story by the government with
precision.

According to the author, Shadow Moses Island was nothing less than the
U.S. Army's testing grounds for a top-secret weapon known as Metal Gear
REX, an all-terrain bipedal tank with advanced nuclear capabilities. As
for the facility's takeover, Romanenko alleges that it was the U.S.
military's own shadowy "wet-works" force, known as "FOXHOUND", that
staged an armed insurrection in a bid for REX's possession.

The government responds to this crisis by sending a lone operative, a
former FOX-HOUND member known only by the code name "Solid Snake", into
Shadow Moses. His infiltration is aided by a remote mission control
team consisting of an unidentified "Colonel Campbell", a FOX-HOUND
medical chief "Naomi", a radar and electronics expert "Mei Ling"
(supposedly a teenager), and the author herself. Once on the island,
"Snake" joins forces with Metal Gear's developer-turned-prisoner
"Otacon" to eradicate the weapon of mass destruction.

Among the other remarkable characters that make an appearance in
Romanenko's expose is another FOXHOUND commando, a revolver-virtuoso
called "Shalashaska" aka "Revolver Ocelot". One of the most
controversial allegations in the book deals with this figure's
connection to a disavowed Russian militia led by a "Colonel
Gurlukovich". Romanenko paints a bleak of a thousand-strong, highly
disciplined army with nuclear weaponry operating covertly within the
American border. Even more irresistible to conspiracy scholars and
students of recent history is her thinly veiled suggestion that the
whole affair was planned from the beginning by certain forces
inside the U.S. government.

The U.S. Army and the usual suspect of federal agencies have issued a
statement denouncing the book as a complete fabrication. However, with
a number of detailed eyewitness accounts that back up the author's
assertions cropping up daily on the Web, the denials serve more to
enhance the book's growing reputation. "Shadow Moses" is an engrossing
read for casual and serious readers alike, and promises to involve
readers in a meaty debate over the truth of the matter for many years
to come.

the button determines whether you walk or run.

P U N C H / K I C K
Press Circle button to punch. Press consecutively for a punch-punch-
kick combo to knock down enemy. Use when surrounded by enemy or when
you have no ammo.

S T R A N G L E
Walk up from behind w/o a weapon & press Square button (w/o left analog
stick) to strangle enemy. Hit Square button repeatedly to take enemy
out. To drag enemy, hold down Square button.

T H R O W
Use left analog stick and Square button near enemy (w/o weapon) to
throw enemy. You can make enemy go unconscious at times.

C O R N E R V I E W M O D E ( 1 )
Input left analog stick toward wall near corner to enter corner view
mode. You can stay hidden and look beyond corner.

C O R N E R V I E W M O D E ( 2 )
Move camera with right analog stick during corner view mode. View is
more limited than when peeking around corner, but there is no risk of
being spotted.

P E E K
Press L2/R2 button during view mode to peek around corner. You could be
seen by enemy when leaning sideways. Be careful.

F I R S T P E R S O N V I E W A T T A C K
Enter First Person View mode w/R1 button (w/ weapon) and press Square
button to hold weapon for First Person View Attack. You can aim at and
shoot specific spots.

P U N C H I N F I R S T P E R S O N V I E W
You can punch and kick with Circle button during First Person View
Mode.

S T R A F E I N F I R S T P E R S O N V I E W M O D E
Press L2/R2 Button during First Person View mode to step sideways.
Press L2 & R2 buttons together to stretch up. Effective during gun
fights while hiding behind objects.

W A T E R T I G H T D O O R
Press Triangle button toward watertight door handle & hold it down to
open door. Press Triangle button rapidly to turn handle quickly.

C L I M B O B J E C T
Press Triangle button to climb objects with heights close to your
waist.

R O L L F O R W A R D
Press X button when running to roll forward. Effective to jump from one
object to another. Hold down X button while rolling to start crawling
at the end of the roll.

K N O C K O N W A L L
Stand up against wall and press Circle button to knock on wall. Make
noise to draw attention of enemy that never seems to leave his spot.

I N S T R U S I O N M O D E
Crawl under narrow spaces to enter Intrusion mode. Use left analog
stick to move forward or backward & face left or right. You can also
enter First Person View mode and attack.

S H O O T R A D I O
Enemy will use radio (on right waist) to call for backup when finding
Snake. If you shoot radio before radio transmission is made, you can
prevent backup from coming.

O B S T R U C T R A D I O
Use chaff grenade to interfere with electronic devices (surveillance
camera, radio, etc.) Since the radio cannot be used, enemy cannot call
for backup.

E N E M Y P A S S I N G B Y
When chased in narrow corridors, hide yourself in indented spots to
make enemy pass by.

H A N G I N G M O D E
Press Triangle button near handrail to jump over handrail and hang to
avoid enemy. You can move sideways and also enter First Person View
mode.

L O C K E R
Stand in front of locker & press Triangle button to open locker. Press
Triangle button again in front of open locker to close it.

A V O I D C L E A R I N G ( 1 )
Hide inside locker when being chased. If enemy sees you entering
locker, you will be attacked. Be careful.

A V O I D C L E A R I N G ( 2 )
When you place yourself in confined space, enemy will start clearing
area to find Snake. Hide yourself properly to avoid being found.

During Corner View mode, equip handgun & press Square button to jump
out from corner to point gun. You can attack quickly from behind
object.

Press X button during Hanging mode to jump down. If you jump down and
land on top of enemy, you can knock out enemy.

S T E A M P I P E
Some pipes running along walls and ceiling shoot out steam when shot.
Since steam is of high temperature, it will damage enemy if you make it
shoot in direction of enemy.

T A K E H O S T A G E
When enemy is being strangled and held hostage, other enemies will
hesitate to shoot. You can escape during this moment.

A T T A C K B Y R O L L I N G
If you roll into enemy, you can knock down enemy. Effective when
surrounded by enemies.

H O L D U P
Sneak up to enemy w/o being found & hold up handgun by pressing Square
button to make enemy hold up. While holding up, enemy cannot do
anything.

T H R E A T E N F O R I T E M
While enemy is holding up, move to front & aim at head or groin in
First Person View mode. Enemy in fear will give you item box.

S H A K E B O D Y
Press Square button near unconscious/dead enemy to hold body. Release
Square button to let go of body. Repeat this to shake body & enemy
will sometimes drop item box.

F I R E E X T I N G U I S H E R
Shoot the fire extinguishers and chemicals will shoot out. Use this to
disorient enemies chasing Snake.

The sound of lightning is heard as the screen fades in on the George
Washington Bridge. The camera lowers down onto oncoming traffic as
Snake is seen wearing a rain coat. After several brief scenes of the
bridge, the camera focuses in on Snake as he makes his way down the
sidewalk. He takes one last puff from his cigarette before tossing it
to the side. Snake begins jogging and turns his stealth camouflage as
his raincoat rips off of him. Snake begins running faster and without
notice jumps over the railing of the bridge. A bungee cord appears
around him as he heads down toward a ship. Snake leaps off the side of
the ships exterior and with a force, lands on the cement harding floor
at the back of the ship. Unfortunately, the camouflage could not handle
the use and wears out. Snake looks around as the camera zooms away from
him and on a nearby helicopter. Revolver Ocelot is seen from the back
of the copper using his binoculars to get a good close-up view of
Snake. Ocelot then says to someone on a radio, "Our boy is right on
schedule. He'll know soon enough..." As he spins his Revolver Pistol on
his left hand. The helicopter flies off as Snake looks around briefly
before running behind the anchor equipment. Snake kneels down and
contacts Otacon.

Solid Snake : "Right. I didn't plan on relying on this gadget anyway."

Otacon : "The private sector's not so bad, is it? Privacy
guaranteed..."

Solid Snake : "I'm happy as long as no one gives me anymore unwanted
gifts."

Otacon : "Issues with Naomi, right?"

Solid Snake : "And I can't say I miss the chattering nanny."

Otacon : "Mei Ling's not so bad. That reminds me, I have to get in
touch with her again about that new Natick flashware."

Solid Snake : "Diverting toys from the SSCEN (U.S. Army Soldier Systems
Center) again? Give her a message from me: someone will
find out, sooner or later. She's better off assuming it's
sooner and quit while she's safe."

Otacon : "Too true. Okay Snake, let's get to work. You know how
the technical specs of Metal Gear were sold on the black
market after Shadow Moses?"

Solid Snake : "Ocelot needed some pocket money..."

Otacon : "Exactly. And now every state, group and dotcom has its
own version of Metal Gear."

Solid Snake : "Not exactly a classified weapon for today's nuclear
powers."

Otacon : "This new one seems to have been designed to wipe the
floor with all the other models. The only consistent
description is that it's an amphibious, anti-Metal Gear
vehicle..."

Solid Snake : "That explains why this one is under Marine Corps
jurisdiction."

Otacon tells Snake that there is a new Metal Gear on that ship for
certain. Snake tells Otacon that it must be down in the holds. Otacon
tells Snake that he wants him to first go up to the top level of the
infrastructure, to the bridge. They need to find out where the tanker
is headed. And since there is too much they do not know about the new

completion. Otacon says that if they knew where the testing arena is,
they can draw some reasonable conclusions. He then tells Snake to try
to avoid confrontations. Their goal is to collect evidence on Metal
Gear development and expose it to the world. Otacon tells Snake that it
would be best if he could get out of there without alerting anyone.
Snake tells Otacon not to worry and that he knows the drill, they're
not terrorists. Otacon tells Snake, "Don't you forget that you're a
part of "Philanthropy" now- an anti-Metal Gear organization and
officially recognized by the UN." Snake then tells Otacon, "Recognized,
but still fringe, Otacon."

suppressor too."

Otacon : "The chemical stun will take effect in a few seconds and
last for hours. You can take down an elephant with that
thing. Check out the laser sighting too. The effects of
the round differ on each part of the body. Can be a
difference of tens of seconds between shots on limbs,
chest or head. As for the equipment... Hey Snake! Smokes?
What is wrong with you?"

Solid Snake : "It's kind of a lucky charm."

Otacon : "You haven't read the Surgeon General's Warning, have
you? This are your binoculars. You can use them just as
before.

Snake looks around the corner of the anchor equipment and zooms in on
the nearest Marine. Snake tells Otacon that they do not look armed and
Otacon replies, "Hey, Earth to Snake. These are nice, upstanding
Marines, not terrorists. Don't get caught, you're in stealth mode
here." Snake then tells Otacon, "And if it comes to that, a little
beauty sleep never hurt anyone. By the way, Otacon, are you sure of
this intelligence?" Otacon tells Snake that he hacked it out of
Pentagon's classified files himself. Snake then ask if there were any
traces and Otacon says, "Oh please, Moi?" Snake tells Otacon that they
cannot rule out the possibility that this is a trap. They are both
ranked high on the wanted list. Otacon tells Snake that he worries too
much. Snake scoping out the Marines, tells Otacon that they don't seem
anything but civilians from here. Otacon says, "With all the ships
passing on the river and in the harbor. Putting uniformed Marines on
the deck would be a bad idea. People can get a clear view of the water
from Riverside too." Snake tells Otacon that the waterline is too
high and according to the navigational plans, this ship should have
discharged its cargo upriver. Otacon says that a Metal Gear in the
holds will weigh down a ship a bit. Snake then says, "The military
trains you to watch for threats from the stern on a boat. That's SOP
for Counter-terror ops too. Security should be tighter." Otacon then
tells Snake that he worries too much again. Otacon tells Snake that
satellite surveillance is a major international pastime these days and
he'd say the cargo holds, safely below the deck. Otacon then asks Snake
if he sees the entrance to the holds and Snake says, "Looks like there
are a few entry ways into the crew quarters. A chopper?" The sound of a
chopper is heard flying in and Snake uses his binoculars to zoom in on
the nearest Marine. Snake helplessly watches as the Marines onboard the
deck are unknowingly killed. Snake tells Otacon that it looks like
there not the only ones after Metal Gear tonight. Otacon says that they
are probably targeting the ships controls. Snake then asks Otacon how
many men are needed to take over a tanker of this size. Otacon
replies, "The ship is run by computer so... I'd say about 18 people."
Snake takes a look at the Assault Rifles the armed soldiers are using
and says, "AKS-74u?" He then zooms in on the leader of the armed
soldiers.

"Russians?" Snake says to Otacon. Otacon asks Snake if he is sure and
Snake replies, "No Marine barber touched that head of hair." The
Russian leader places his cap on his head.

Snake says, "Looks like the tanker's theirs now." Snake hears a
chopper within the distance and then says, "Kasatka...?" Otacon then
asks Snake, "Kasatka? Kamov chopper, right? 'Killer Whale'..."

|are felt at different times depending on where the bullet lands. A |
|head or heart shot takes effect at once, but shots to feet or hands |
|take a while. The gun fitted with a suppressor, so no need to worry |

|tranquilizer gun, the M9 has its limitations. All it can do is knock |

of your position is the first RATION.

|carried and eaten on the field. They're all about functionality and |
|calories. It uses a special freeze-drying method developed by the |
|NROC. They're compact, portable and last for weeks. |

After getting the first RATION, head northeast up the Starboard side
of the deck. As you go up the right side of the ship, you should notice
a small set of steps leading up to a platform where a pole is located
at. Follow the steps all the way up to the platform. You will notice a
crate laying on its side blocking you from retrieving the item on the
opposite side. In order to bypass this crate, run up to it and press
the Triangle button. Snake will automatically pull himself up to the
top of the crate. Jump down on the other side of crate by running off
the ledge of the crate. Grab the CHAFF GRENADES.

|devices for a short time. The chaff grenade is a weapon that |
|disperses aluminum foil or metal-coated glass and plastic fibers to |
|confuse the enemy radar. A portable application of the chaff-laun- |
|chers built into fighter planes. When detonated, the grenade releases|
|tiny chaff pieces as well as imiaturized active jammers using a small|
|amount of explosives. The grenade can't create full-scale chaff |
|corridors or chaff clouds, but will form a Radar Cross Section (RCS) |
|area large enough for single-personnel use. The weapon is for |
|electronic interference only, though. It has no effect on enemy |
|personnel. |

After grabbing the CHAFF GRENADES, go up to the railing and press the
Triangle button to jump over the side of the platform. Press the X
button to drop down to the floor. You should be right in front of a
staircase that leads to the second floor. But before taking it up,
follow the hallway to the east of the staircase all the way down. You
will find some DIAZEPAM at the end.

After getting the DIAZEPAM, retrace back to the staircase and follow it
up halfway. There is a guard patrolling the second floor. Wait until he
comes over to the small tank along the railing and uses his binoculars
to look over the side. Quickly run up the stairs, move up close behind
the guard and draw the M9 (hold the Square button). The guard will place
his hands into the air. While you continue to hold the Square button,
hold down the R1 button to enter first person view. While continuing to
hold both buttons, aim the gun at the guard's head and shoot. After
taking out the guard, head north. You will find a BANDAGE next to the
lifeboat.

After getting the BANDAGE, take the stairs next to the lifeboat up to
the third floor. Be careful because there is a guard patrolling the
third floor. If you catch sight of the guard, quickly take him out with
the M9 TRANQUILIZER GUN using first person view. Follow the third floor
down until you reach the large pipes. You will find a WET CARDBOARD BOX
between the second and third pipes.

to find a RATION. After getting the RATION, retrace back to staircase
and as you approach the door with the steering hinge. You will receive

|without killing them. Stun Grenades are non-lethal weapons that knock|
|out enemy personnel with an intense flash of light and a burst of |
|sound. Once the grenade is airborne, a timer detonator ejects an |
|internal cartridge using a small amount of explosives. The cartridge |
|then explodes, and releases a flash rated at over a million |
|candlepower, with an accompanying bang of over 200 decibels. The |
|combinations of the flash and the bang temporarily overwhelms human |
|sensory perceptions. There are no projectiles released, so it can |
|only knock out enemies, not wound them. |

Take the stairs back up to the first floor. Equip the M9 and use first
person view to take out the guard in front of the stairs. After taking
out the guard, head over to the Crew's Lounge which is to the north of

in the resting area.

Equip the M9 and lean against the corner near the guard. As you
continue to lean against the corner, hold the R2 button to peek around
the corner, and press and hold the Square button to perform a Jumpout
shot. If done correctly, the guard should place his hands into the air.
While continuing to aim the M9 at him, use first person view to shoot
him in the head.

NOTE: If you take too long, the guard will begin his patrol. He will
head west down to the opposite end of the hallway and then head east
back in the direction of you, coming to a stop before the corner. In
order to take him out, wait until he begins heading west and use first
person view to get a quick head shot.

After taking out the guard, head west down the hallway and around the
corner. Enter the room to the west (Port side) and take the stairs up
to the third floor.

Throw a CHAFF GRENADE to temporarily disable the surveillance camera
and head east down the hallway. You will find some CHAFF GRENADES in
the locker next to the stairs that lead up to Deck D and a RATION
in the ventilation shaft near the staircase that is blocked by fallen
crates.

NOTE: Under the Hard or Very Hard difficulty setting, the RATION in
the ventilation shaft is removed.

NOTE: Under the Normal difficulty setting, another guard is added to
the area. He will enter the Mess Hall from the northern entrance, just
south of the stairs that lead down to Deck C. Under the Hard difficulty
a second guard patrols the entrance to the Pantry. While under the Very
Hard difficulty, the three guards are switched around. The first one
patrols the hallway south of the Deck C staircase, the second one is
in the Mess Hall, and the third guard patrols the stairs up to the
Bridge.

Head east down the hallway, coming to a stop before reaching the
intersection. You should notice on your radar a guard patrolling the
hallway opposite of you. Wait until he begins to head west. Head east
to the end of the intersection. The camera should change, showing a
sensor along the south wall with C4 attached to both sides. You will
receive an incoming Codec message from Otacon. Press the Select button.

Otacon : "Snake, wait! Don't move!"

Solid Snake : "I see it. Some kind of device on both sides of the

Otacon : "Exactly. Plastic explosives 'R' Us. If you trip the
sensors..."

Solid Snake : "I'll be sleeping with the fishes along with this entire
ship."

Otacon : "That sounds about right. Hm, there aren't that many
infrared beams. Maybe you can get past those without
setting off the explosives. If you need to see exactly
where the beams are, you can use the usual method.
There's a fire extinguisher over there. Break it open and
try scattering some of the extinguishing chemicals."

Head north from the intersection to the Pantry. You will find some M9
BULLETS to the west of the center shelf and a DRY CARDBOARD BOX at the
back of the Pantry.

Stay near the back wall since there is a guard on his way to the
Pantry. A cut scene will begin.

Wait until the guard comes up to the front of the shelf and faces
north. Equip the M9 TRANQUILIZER GUN and use first person view to aim
through the shelf toward the guard. Once you've got a clear shot at the
guard, take it. After taking out the guard, exit the Pantry. As you
come out of the door that leads to the Pantry, stop and face south
toward the sensors. Wait for the guard patrolling along the hallway
south of the sensor to come up near it. Quickly take a head shot using
the M9. Once the guard has been taken out, head south around the corner
and west down the hallway in the direction of where the stairs that you
had taken up are. Enter the door south of the stairs.

To the south of Snake around the pillar a surveillance camera is seen.

You will find a RATION behind the counter in the kitchen area. As well
as some M9 BULLETS under the table where the two dead Marines are.

the surveillance camera. After getting any ammunition that you need,
head out the door to the south of the surveillance camera and takes
the stairs up to Deck E.

contacted by Otacon.

Snake quietly sneaks up behind a nearby crate as Gurlukovich tells
Olga, "...Shalashaska has landed. I'm on my way to the tanker holds...
Report your status." Olga says that the control room, communications
and engine room are under control. All entry and exit points to the
tanker holds secured. Infrared sensors are placed as well as the
explosives. Gurlukovich tells Olga that once they have what they came
for, the tanker will be scuttled. Olga asks Gurlukovich about the
pilot and he replies, He's the only one who underwent the VR training.
No one else can do it." Olga asks him if the pilot can be trusted and
he changes the subject saying, "Your part in the mission is complete.
You are to leave at once." Olga tells him that it is not over yet and
he replies, "I can see the moon... even in this storm. Pale as death.
I have a bad feeling about this mission. You swore this to me. That you
would leave the unit, once the mission was complete. Do not worry. This
is a country of 'liberty and justice for all'. Olga begins to argue
with him, "No! This is where I belong, with the unit. I have nowhere
else to go. Father, I want to fight together." Gurlukovich tells Olga
that there is no choice to make here. He then says to Olga, "Need I
remind you that you are carrying my grandchild? You will be on the
helicopter out of here, now!" Olga signals for the helicopter to leave
without her and one of the soldier’s above her signals her to come on
but she refuses. Snake jumps out from behind one of the crates and
points his gun at Olga. He tells her to put her hands over her head and
to toss her gun overboard. Olga makes a remark to Snake saying that all
men are the same. Snake demands Olga to tell him who she is. Olga takes
off her hat and shows her face. Olga says to Snake, "Americans... so
you shoot unarmed women too?" Snake tells her that he is a nomad too.
Snake then demands that Olga take her knife and toss it. Olga takes the
knife out of her pocket and starts to put it down but Snake wants her
to toss it overboard. Snake then tells Olga to hold that position and
to turn around. The ship begins to shake and it stops raining. Olga
with lightning speed throws her knife into the air and draws her gun
she had in a back pocket. She then shoots a bullet toward Snake. Only
missing Snake's neck by inches. Olga then quickly takes cover behind a
nearest crate. Snake says, "Scout knife with a surprise, you a
Spetsnaz?" Olga says to Snake that this brings their tour to it's
conclusion. Olga then tells Snake that he deserves a little credit. No
one has ever dodged her shot before. Olga then tells Snake that no one
ever gets lucky twice.

Take cover behind the crates to the north of you. Olga will start
shooting at you from behind a nearby object. After a couple of seconds
she will head toward the back area and a cut scene will be triggered.

Olga : "I've been with the unit since I was born. I grew up on
the battlefield. Conflict and victory were my parents.
The unit is my life, my family. We've shared everything--
all the bad and all the good. I have no one-- nothing
except the unit. Nothing else matters to me!"
<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

NOTE: If you continue hiding behind crates and Olga is unable to locate
you, she will begin tossing GRENADES over to your side. So keep an eye
out for any GRENADES that she may throw toward you. And as you see a
GRENADE being thrown into direction, quickly move into the opposite
direction since you will only have about two seconds or so before it
explodes.

You should notice a crate on her side of the area covered by a sheet.
Equip the M9 and use first person view to shoot the two ropes on the
south side of the crate. If done correctly, the sheet will fly off of
the crate. This will prevent Olga from using the sheet for cover later
on in the game.

NOTE: Keep yourself in concealment until you have the chance to shoot
Olga. Once you've shot Olga, her life will begin to slowly drain down
to fifty percent.

After a while, Olga will hide behind the fridge-object.

Olga tells Snake that whoever he is, he cannot stop them.

After fifty percent of Olga's life is taken, she will go up to the
upper left (northwest) corner and shoot the rope of the sheet that is
covering the crates. Olga will stay behind the sheet and begin throwing
GRENADES at you. Not matter where you hide, she will know where you are
at.

NOTE: If you've already shot the sheet off the crate, then Olga will
not do the above.

########################## SECRET OF THE PROS #########################
This is by far the best tip in defeating Olga once you master your aim
in first person view mode. When the battle begins, you should notice
the two different sets of stacked crates. Whenever you run up between
the area that separates the two stacks of crates. Olga runs up to the
upper right (northeast) corner on her side. She will peek out from the
side of the crate with sheet on it and then throw a grenade. Make
certain that you have the M9 TRANQUILIZER equipped and as she peeks
out from behind the crate before she throws a grenade, shoot her in
the head. Once you have done this, take cover behind either set of
stacked crates. Wait until Olga's life is drained down to fifty percent
from the M9 BULLET that you shot at her head. Run between the area
that separate the two sets of stacked crates and shoot her in the
head with the M9 TRANQUILIZER GUN right before she throws the grenade.
After several more shots, you will pass out from the M9 BULLETS.

Olga drops down to the ground.

Snake quietly walks up to the side of the crate and looks at Olga. Olga
has apparently passed out and laying down on the crate. Snake pushes
her over using the tip of his gun. He then takes a good look at the
gun Olga was using and kneels down beside her. It's a USP, Snake knows
that it will come in handy and picks it up. As Snake gets back to his
feet, he notices something within the distance coming at him. It
appears to be some kind of surveillance camera that floats in the air.
After the surveillance camera gets a good look at Snake it flies off.
Snake says to himself, "CYPHER!?" As the camera moves away from him.

Q: I RENTED ZONE OF THE ENDERS AND WAS WONDERING IF THE METAL GEAR
SOLID DEMO WAS ON IT. I CANT FIND IT ON THE GAME AT ALL BUT IN
THE OPTIONS MENU YOU CAN TURN OFF THE CAPTIONS IN THE DEMO. DOES
THE DEMO COME ON A SEPERATE DISK? OR DO I HAVE TO BEAT THE GAME
OR SOMETHING BEFORE I CAN GET THE DEMO?

A: When you purchase Zone of the Enders for the Sony PlayStation 2.
You get two different disc with it. The Zone of the Enders disc
and a demo disc for Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty. Probably
the store you rented Z.O.E. from, just gave you the Zone of the
Enders disc and not the demo disc for Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of
Liberty with it. So Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty is on a
separate disc.

VOICE ACTORS FROM THE FIRST METAL GEAR SOLID, LIKE SNAKE STILL
WILL BE DAVID HAYTER?

A: David Hayter will return to be the voice actor for Solid Snake.
If I am correct as well as the entire voice actors will return
to assume roles in the sequel to Metal Gear Solid. Otacon and
Revolver Ocelot will still have their originally voice actors,
I'm not one hundred percent sure about this, but Meryl
Silverburgh's voice actor from Metal Gear Solid may return for
Olga Gurlukovich since Meryl's Japanese voice actor was Olga's
in the trial edition.

Q: I WAS WONDERING IF THE GAME ALLOWS YOU TO USE THE USP GUN ON
THE VERY HARD MODE? I LOOK ALL OVER THE PLACE FOR THE USP,
COULDN'T FIND IT. THE USP IS NOT IN THE USUALLY PLACE (IN THE
LOCKER).

A: Under the hard or very hard difficulty, the USP handgun is
switched to a different location. You can find it in the locker
on Deck B, Crew's Quarters, Starboard.

A: The game is scheduled to be released this November in the United
States while it will be released in Japan sometime in December.

Q: DO U NO WHERE I GO TO ENTER THE CLEAR CODE CAUSE I WENT TO THE
WEB SIT AND I CANT FIND WHERE?

A: I'm afraid that KCEJ has officially discontinued the clear codes.
You can no longer enter your clear codes or even look at your
score. They stopped doing Internet Ranking for the clear codes
around the end of May.

Q: CAN YOU SNAP AN ENEMIES NECK WHILE THEY'RE UNCONSIOUS OR STUNNED?

A: There is no way what-so-ever of being able to snap your enemies
neck while he is unconscious or stunned. I have tried it a dozen
times over and it has never worked. All you can do while your
enemy is unconscious or stunned is be able to drag him.

Q: DID THE DEMO THAT YOU COVERED IN YOUR FAQ HAVE RELOAD ANIMATIONS,
AND IF NOT, DO YOU KNOW IF THEY ARE GOING TO BE IN THE FINISHED
VERSION?

A: There is indeed gun reload animation's in the demo disc. For
example, once you have shot all of the bullets for one clip of
ammunition, Snake will take out that clip and put another one in
the gun. That empty clip, will be kept in your weapon inventory.
Which could be thrown near a guard to distract him long enough
for you to by pass him or whatever. The only guns that are in the
game is the M9 Tranquilizer Gun and the USP Handgun (similar to a
SOCOM but without the Suppresser). Even the enemy soldier's whom
use Assault Rifles reload their guns and you can even see their
empty clips fall to the ground.

Also after you smoke for a while, they stop taking away Snake's health.
