-----SECTION 0.0 INTRODUCTION-----
(http://www.elitecoder.com/bionic/walk/00.htm)

This walkthrough is designed to help beginners and experts, and even all those
people stuck in between. Even the most experienced players should learn
something from this walkthrough; that's how this thing was designed. I almost
guarantee that this walkthrough is the most complete one you’ll run across. And
you’re getting it for FREE! Remember that everything in this walkthrough is a
SUGGESTION, not a command. If something seems to work wonderfully for you that
I didn't put in here, use it!

If you have any comments, suggestions, complaints, compliments, etc., don't be
hesitant; go ahead and contact me at gricksigger@aol.com.

OTHERWISE, I MAY BELIEVE YOUR MAIL IS SPAM AND DELETE IT.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
-----SECTION 1.0 BASIC CONCEPTS/IDEAS-----
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(http://www.elitecoder.com/bionic/walk/10.htm)

I'll start off with these two very basic definitions:
Tap- lightly press a button without holding it down
Hold- press and keep a button down

You need to know those definitions. Also, the A button is the
grapple button. B is the shoot button. Select is used in the game to pause.
Start is used to access your special item. More on this later, but generally, A
means accept, and B means cancel. To get health, either run and pick up the
bullets foes leave behind or grab the bullets with your bionic arm. To get your
first health point, you need 5 bullets. Then you need 15. Then 30, then 60,
then 100, then 150, then 220, then 300. Yeah, 300 bullets. Whoa. It helps that
you get 10 bonus bullets each time you beat most action/normal areas, like this
one (but not neutral areas, like this one.) Additionally, after most action
levels, you get another gun or an item.

This brings us to the next point: what do you mean by "beating" a
level? This, in regular/action areas, just means you beat the boss. Whatever
you do to get there, if you beat the boss, you've "beaten" the level. However,
you need to follow a course to get to the boss, of course. For example, you
need to bring the right communicators in a few levels to beat the level. IF A
COMMUNICATION ROOM SAYS "GA GA GA...", YOU'VE BROUGHT THE WRONG COMMUNICATOR.
You can't really beat a neutral area.

Additionally, don't get worried if you get hit a few times in this
game. Whenever you return to the map after beating or exiting a level, your
health is recharged. For example, suppose you gather 100 bullets. That gives
you 5 health points. But suppose that, before you end the level, you are hit
three times, so that you have only two health points. Next level, you get 5
health points again! REMEMBER THIS, ESPECIALLY IF YOU TURN OUT TO BE A PARANOID
SAVER. What's that? You'll find out soon enough.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
-----SECTION 1.1 NESTICLE INFO/CONTROLS-----
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(http://www.elitecoder.com/bionic/walk/11.htm)

Nesticle has lots of cool features. Once you download it, run Nesticle.exe
and press ALT+L to load the BC ROM that you should have put into the same
directory as Nesticle. Press enter to load it. If, in Nesticle, you want to
remap the keys, go to Settings> Device Input> Device 1. For this walkthrough,
I’m assuming you’re using your keyboard. Although the default mapping of keys
makes sense, I use this mapping, shown below.

A- . (the period)
B- / (the slash)
Select- ; (the semicolon)
Start- ‘ (the quote)
And, the arrows are the appropriate keys on the keyboard.

Why this strange configuration? The hands are close together, the left hand
controls all of the non-direction buttons, all the buttons are close together,
and it’s comfortable. THIS IS JUST AN EXPERIENCED SUGGESTION; LOTS OF OTHER
CONFIGURATIONS ARE GOOD, TOO. HOWEVER, THIS IS PROBABLY ONE OF THE BEST
MAPPINGS POSSIBLE.

All right. I also make lots of references to some NSMs (Nesticle movie files)
in this walkthrough. They're all stored together here. These are essentially
recordings of BC in Nesticle. To play them, put them into the same directory as
Nesticle. Then run Nesticle, load the appropriate ROM, and go to CPU> NES
Movie> Play. Type in the name of the movie there (for example, if the file is
named bionic.nsm, then type in “bionic” without the quotes and click play.)
There are also convenient links (with the online version, of course, not this
text version) on the appropriate parts of the walkthrough they pertain to.
For example, in Area 12's page, it has links to the NSMs about Area 12 (wow!.)

Don't worry, the files are pretty small. Nesticle has ten save slots for each
ROM. When playing, for example, hit the button 5. At the bottom of the screen,
ten slots will appear, with 5 being selected. If you press 7, you’ll select
save slot 7. Slot 0 is selected by default. Save into a slot by hitting
F5. Load the slot by hitting F7.

I could write several pages about saving and
loading in emulators, but here’s a brief summary: There are four basic types of
views towards saving in emulators: the paranoid saver, the frequent saver, the
occasional saver, and the abstainer. The next section talks about how these
people would use Nesticle's save/load features.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
-----SECTION 1.2 SAVING IN EMULATORS-----
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(http://www.elitecoder.com/bionic/walk/12.htm)

Here's more about the four basic views toward emulator saving:

The paranoid saver is someone who often actually uses the one-button save and
load buttons as controls. For example, this person would, when playing, have
his fingers on F5, F7, the A button, the B button, Select, Start, and the
arrows, actually incorporating the save and load buttons as part of the
controls. He usually hits the save button every two seconds or so. If he dies,
he reflexively hits F7 and keeps on playing without flinching. This is the type
of person who wants only to beat the game and doesn’t care about actually
playing the game through or getting good at the game.

The frequent saver is someone who plays, hitting the save button every five
or ten seconds or so, but who otherwise keeps his hands on the normal controls.
Every so often (such as five/ten seconds, as said before) this player will move
his hand up reflexively to the save button and hit it. If he dies, he hits
F7 and keeps on playing. This is the type of person who sort of wants to beat
the game and sort of wants to play the game as it is and get good at it, too.

The occasional saver is someone who finds saving a nuisance, and therefore only
saves maybe every minute or so, or if some landmark is achieved. In BC, for
example, he might save whenever he enters a door or beats a level. For this
kind of person, saving is cheating if abused, and wants to actually play the
game through to a degree, and wants to get good at it as well. This kind of
person is often someone who actually played the game on the original system,
and wants to relive old days.

The abstainer regards any saving as cheating, because in the real game you
couldn’t have done so. Therefore, this type of person is essentially playing
the original system (e.g., the NES, SNES, etc.) on his computer without any
extra benefits. This kind of person is also often someone who actually played
the game on the original system, and wants to relive old days. Which of these
techniques is the “best”? It depends. If you’re only playing to beat the game,
you might as well be a paranoid saver. In terms of building skills and getting
through the game at the same time, frequent saving is excellent. If you have a
grasp of the game and are working on skill at that game, occasional saving is
excellent. Abstaining is good if you’re a fan of the original game and/or are a
master of the game. It's really up to you.

-----Miscellaneous but VERY IMPORTANT point:-----
If you entered a level and have to get out, hit A+B+Start. You’ll exit
the area just like that (and it’ll play a weird sound somewhat like an
explosion.) In this walkthrough, I’ll refer to pushing A+B+Start as [manually]
“exiting” or “leaving” the level.I could write another page about using
A+B+Start. However, it is part of the original game, so you can guiltlessly use
these three keys right before you're going to die. This is sort of cheap,
though. It's a lot like using the save and load functions; you can prevent
dying. This is also for you to decide. However, in any case, you should use
this no matter what in some cases; if you're low on lives, for instance.
ANYWAY, you may also want to check out all of the stuff at Bionic Commando
Headquarters (http://www.elitcoder.com/bionic).

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
-----SECTION 2.0 USING THE BIONIC ARM-----
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(http://www.elitecoder.com/bionic/walk/20.htm)

Until you’re really comfortable with using the bionic arm, you can’t be very
successful in Bionic Commando. Many BC (Bionic Commando) players who describe
themselves as “experienced” don’t know how to "properly" use the bionic arm.
This is the longest and most tedious part of this walkthrough, BUT IT’S THE
MOST IMPORTANT PART, TOO, AS IT TELLS ABOUT ALL THE TERMS AND STUFF YOU NEED TO
KNOW FOR THE REST OF THE WALKTHROUGH!!!

The Basic Grapple, AKA The Diagonal Grapple- This is the basic grapple of BC.
If you just stand still and don’t press any arrows (direction keys, arrow keys,
etc.) and tap the A button, then you will execute a basic grapple. DON’T GET IT?
LOOK AT http://www.elitecoder.com/bionic/walk/BASIC.NSM. Once you
have attached yourself thus with this grapple, you can break the connection,
swing with the connection, or hook up to the point of connection (where your
bionic arm meets whatever it’s attached to.) If you press left when you are
grappling to the right, you’ll break the connection. You’ll also break the
connection if you duck (press down.) If you swing, you keep on going left to
right to left to right WITHOUT SHORTENING YOUR CONNECTION.

How do you swing?
Suppose you’re facing right and you have a basic grapple on the platform above
you to the right. Then, press right and you’ll start swinging from side to
side. DON’T GET IT? LOOK AT
http://www.elitecoder.com/bionic/walk/SIDETOSIDE.NSM.
Notice also that when you are swinging, you cannot shoot your gun.
Anyways, lastly, you can hook up: if you tap the A button again while you're
swinging, then shorten your connection. DON’T GET IT? LOOK AT
http://www.elitecoder.com/bionic/walk/SHORTENING.NSM. OK! Got all of that? You
better have, because we’re moving on…
The Upwards Grapple, AKA The Vertical Grapple- This is another basic grapple,
executed if you hold up while tapping the A button. DON’T GET IT? LOOK AT
http://www.elitecoder.com/bionic/walk/UPWARDS.NSM. If in such a position, you
can break the connection by ducking, face either left or right (by pressing the
left and right direction arrows,) and lastly, hook up to the top by tapping the
A button again. DON’T GET IT? LOOK AT
http://www.elitecoder.com/bionic/walk/HOOK.NSM.

The Forwards Grapple, AKA The Side Grapple- This is a rarely used grapple,
executed (while standing) by tapping the A button while holding either the
left or right button down. DON’T GET IT? LOOK AT
http://www.elitecoder.com/bionic/walk/FORWARDS.NSM. Since this is a weird
grapple, it has weird qualities. For example, ducking, pressing up, and
pressing forwards have no effect while doing this grapple. The only way
to break the connection is by turning to the other direction. If you tap
the A button again, you’ll shorten the connection up to
the place where you connected. However, if you connected over a gap, you’ll
shorten up to the gap, then start swinging. DON’T GET IT? LOOK AT
http://www.elitecoder.com/bionic/walk/CONNECTED.NSM. If you tap the A button
again while swinging, you’ll hook up, just as if you started off with a
basic/diagonal grapple.

Ducking Grapple, AKA The Low Grapple and The Under-Grapple- This is used
actually more often than the Forwards or Side grapple. It’s often used
to connect to a barrel or a slightly higher platform. DON’T GET IT? LOOK
AT http://www.elitecoder.com/bionic/walk/DUCKING.NSM. Don’t worry too
much about this one or the last one; they’re not really important. Just know
what I call them.

Series of Connections- This just means a bunch of swings put
together. DON’T GET IT? LOOK AT
http://www.elitecoder.com/bionic/walk/SERIES.NSM. This brings up an
important point: while swinging, there are a few ways to break
the connection. First, you can just press either the left or right
button and swing off as far as you can. DON’T GET IT? LOOK AT
http://www.elitecoder.com/bionic/walk/SWINGOFF.NSM. WHEN YOU SWING OFF,
YOU ONLY HAVE TO PRESS LEFT OR RIGHT. DO NOT PRESS THE A BUTTON AGAIN
WHILE YOU'RE SWINGING. DON'T DO THIS
(http://www.elitecoder.com/bionic/walk/this.nsm)
UNLESS YOU WANT A SHORT SWING, AND THIS IS USUALLY NOT OFTEN THE CASE.
Second, you can drop off by pressing down. DON’T GET IT? LOOK AT
http://www.elitecoder.com/bionic/walk/DROPOFF.NSM. When you drop
off like this by pressing the down button, there are many different places
where you can drop. For example, if you drop off near the edge of your swing,
you won’t go very far. If you drop off near the middle, you’ll go a medium
length. OK!!! Let’s get on with this!!!You can also use the bionic arm to hit
guys. In fact, you might as well harass them.

There are at least three ways to play this game: to beat it for the first time,
to improve at playing the game, and to beat it quickly. This walkthrough covers
all of these. This walkthrough is designed to SAVE TIME, and, therefore, the
nonessential parts are skipped. If you want to “experience the entire game by
yourself through exploration and yadda yadda yadda,” do it by yourself and
don't use this walkthrough or use this walkthrough as a reference guide.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
-----SECTION 2.1 ITEMS ANALYSIS-----
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(http://www.elitecoder.com/bionic/walk/21.htm)

This part takes a look at all the items in this game and how to use them.

PROTECTION ITEMS: PENDANT, HELMET, BULLETPROOF VEST

The pendant blocks one shot. It offers the least protection of the three
protection items. Get it after beating Area 2.

The helmet blocks three shots. It offers better protection than the pendant.
Get it in the secret passageway.

The bulletproof vest blocks every other shot. It offers better protection than
the pendant. Get it after beating Area 11.
Why don't I say the bulletproof vest is better than the helmet? If there are
only two or three shots fired, the helmet is better.

SPECIAL ITEMS: FLARES, MEDICINE (AKA ENERGY RECOVERY PILLS,) PERMIT, IRON
BOOTS, RAPID FIRE DEVICE (AKA MAGAZINE SYSTEM.)

The flares have no effect unless used in Area 4, in which it lights up the
area. Get it in Area 13.

The medicine will recharge energy up to the greatest extent reached before. For
example, if the most health dots you've ever had is four, this will give you
four again. Get it after beating Area 1.

The permit has no effect unless taken into Area 14, in which it allows you to
enter. Get it after beating Area 6.

The iron boots allow you to kill enemies when you kick them. Get it after
beating Area 8.

The rapid fire device allows you to shoot your regular gun faster. You can hold
the fire button down with this item.

OTHER ITEMS: ITEM PARACHUTE, BULLET, POW, MEDICINE, FREE MAN, EAGLE BADGE

When an item parachute floats down, shoot or grab it to reveal an item.

When you kill most enemies, they'll become bullets. Also may come from item
parachutes.
NOTE FROM SECTION 1.0: To get health, either run and pick up the bullets foes
leave behind or grab the bullets with your bionic arm. To get your first health
point, you need 5 bullets. Then you need 15. Then 30, then 60, then 100, then
150, then 220, then 300. Yeah, 300 bullets. Whoa. It helps that you get 10
bullets for beating an action/normal area (not a neutral area.) You can beat an
easy level a few times and get at least 10 bullets each time.

The Pow will put a damaging barrier around you for protection for a short
period of time.

The medicine will recharge energy up to the greatest extent reached before. For
example, if the most health dots you've ever had is four, this will give you
four again.

The free man gives you an extra life (duh.)

When you beat the mini-bosses in the convoys, they'll leave behind an eagle
badge, which will give you a continue.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
-----SECTION 3.0 THE BEGINNING OF THE ADVENTURE-----
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(http://www.elitecoder.com/bionic/walk/30.htm)

NOTE: BEFORE READING THIS SECTION AND GOING ON, READ SECTIONS 0.0-2.3 AT LEAST
BRIEFLY. I DIDN'T WRITE THEM FOR NOTHING! THEY HOLD IMPORTANT INFORMATION YOU
NEED TO KNOW FOR THE REST OF THIS WALKTHROUGH.

Now comes the actual walkthrough of the levels of BC, from Area 1 to Area 12.
Before read this, I suggest briefly going through BCHQ's page on each of the
individual levels. THIS IS FOR BEATING BIONIC COMMANDO FOR THE FIRST TIME AND
IMPROVING. If you're trying to beat this game for speed, turn to section 4.0.
As mentioned before, there are links to NSMs in the following pages. This
section tells you how to view them. At the top of most pages is a link saying
"Complete section corresponding NSM." That NSM shows the entire level. But, of
course, this is the text version, so it doesn't say that.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
-----SECTION 3.1 BEFORE AREA 1-----
(http://www.elitecoder.com/bionic/walk/31.htm)
Complete section corresponding NSM at:
http://www.elitecoder.com/bionic/walk/31.nsm
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Once the ROM is loaded, press Start to exit the title screen. You go to a
communication screen. This sequence is really long and boring, so press A and B
at the same time to skip through it. You arrive at the map. Press A to transfer
to area 1. Then, press A again to descend, then A several times more to select
the regular gun (the only one you have) and the red communicator (the only one
you have.)

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

-----SECTION 3.2 AREA 1-----
(http://www.elitecoder.com/bionic/walk/32.htm)
Complete section corresponding NSM at:
http://www.elitecoder.com/bionic/walk/32.nsm
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

NOTE: BEFORE READING THIS SECTION AND GOING ON, READ SECTIONS 0.0-2.3 AT LEAST
BRIEFLY. I DIDN'T WRITE THEM FOR NOTHING! THEY HOLD IMPORTANT INFORMATION YOU
NEED TO KNOW FOR THE REST OF THIS WALKTHROUGH.

So, we finally start! First of all, you’ve gotta get used to whatever controls
you use. Practice swinging and shooting several times first. You start by
floating down with your parachute. Once you land, charge to the right and stop
a little before the barrel. Without stalling, grapple diagonally to the
platform on which the red guy is walking. As you swing, drop off so you land on
the other side of the platform. The red guy will jump down (through the
platform!) and when he does so, shoot him and watch him transform into a green
bullet. Pick the bullet up and, if you want, hit Select. If you do, you’ll see
L=001/005 at the bottom. This means you need four more bullets to get a little
life point/dot at the upper left of your screen.

Anyway, hook straight up twice then, go as far right next to the barrels as you
can, then hook straight up again onto the small platform. There’s a guy on the
right side; when he gets onscreen, duck and shoot him, then go pick up the
bullet. Then hook up to the red platform, walk left until you’re under the
door, then hook up and go right in.

This is a communication room. In order to save time, you’ll skip these rooms if
you don’t need to go into them. However, you need to use it this time. Go
immediately to the right to the big computer thing until the screen changes to
a communication screen. It’ll let you communicate or wiretap. Never wiretap if
you want to save time. Not only is it never needed, but it’ll also bring in a
bunch of soldiers sometimes. So select the option COMMUNICATE (with button A),
and watch the guy talk. You don’t need to listen to him, though, so after you
choose to "communicate," just press B to cut him off. You’ll return to the
regular screen, whereupon you can go back out of the door.

Once outside, notice the guy you killed has regenerated. Fall down to the
left a few times. Now, this is a good place to practice shooting
while flying through the air. What do I mean? Go to the right edge of
the platform, make the short connection to the right, and press the
right button to swing off to the right. While you’re flying towards
that guy on the yellow building, shoot him and kill him.

Anyways, kill him and get the bullet, however you do it. Then right to the
right side of the barrels, where (gasp!) there’s no platform! Never fear,
however. Use the bionic arm to grab the light pole, and swing off to the right.
Then walk right, fall off, then fall off the right side again, timing carefully
to not get hit by the stationary shooter. Charge right. As soon as you see the
stationary shooter, duck and fire at him. Kill him and grab the bullet. Then
walk a little farther right until the shooter on the left is off the screen.
Hook up at a good time, then get right next to the barrel on the right. Stay
right there until the guy shoots, then stand up and start firing like crazy.
You’ll kill him. This is known as THE BARREL SEQUENCE. Get the bullet by
throwing your bionic arm to the right over the barrel without ducking. Then
hook up twice to get to the narrow yellow building.

Get to the right edge, then grab the platform above diagonally. If
you were right on the edge, don’t worry, and just shorten the
connection and get up. Blast the enemy, get the bullet, and get up
onto the next platform. Charge left, and duck right by the barrel.
As before, blast him right after he shoots. Then get up onto the next platform.
Kill that guy, get the bullet, and go up to the door. Enter it. NOTE: IF IT’S
NOT OPEN, YOU DIDN’T COMMUNICATE. I TOLD YOU TO! GO BACK AND COMMUNICATE.OK!

You’re inside, which is good, because it was a bit chilly outside (just
kidding.) The elevator takes way too long. Just fall off the left side. While
you’re falling, face right and grab the third or fourth (either one) platform
on the right side (the purple ones.) Once you’re swinging, go to the left, and
charge until you reach the barrel. Hook straight up, shorten the connection,
and blast down the electric barrier. Drop down, and kill the guy on the right
if you want to. Then go to the left, hook diagonally, swing off over the
barrel, and drop quickly. This part is a little tricky. Go to the place right
in the middle of the barrel and the green platform on the left. Face left, and
swing off to the left. AS SOON AS YOU START FLYING OFF THE CONNECTION, GRAB UP
AND HOOK UP TO THE GREEN PLATFORM WHERE GUYS ARE WALKING!

If you can’t, you’ll land on the green place on the left. If you do, swing back
over to the right and try again. When you succeed, stay right below the
platform, and don’t climb onto it until the guy/guys are on the right side,
away from you. When this time comes, get up and shoot them, grabbing the
bullets.

Quickly, hook straight up to the small green platform with a barrel on
it. If there’s already a guy walking there, you have to just walk around on the
platform you’re on, killing the parachuters that come and waiting until the
platform is open. Anyway, you should get there soon. When you do, kill any guy
there might be on the left platform. Hook diagonally to the left, and swing in
that direction. Keep swinging until you reach the platform right next to the
red rock opening. Hook up at this place and swing over to the red rock opening.
Charge right, avoiding the bombs and/or large bullets the guy behind the
barrier throws/shoots. Once he throws or shoots, hook straight up quickly and
shoot the electric barrier. Then drop down, being careful not to be hit.

Watch both sides, as parachuters may come in from the right. Kill the guy
throwing bombs and shooting large bullets and get the bullet he leaves behind.
If you’re not too good at this game, stay right outside of the door with the
eagle on it and kill all the parachuters that come out of nowhere.
Gather lots of bullets, and if you want to know how many bullets you have
and how many you need for another life point, hit Select. If you’re
paranoid and/or really not-so-good at this game, get 60 bullets
(4 life points.) If you’re OK but not good, get 30 bullets (3 life points.)
If you are good and/or (foolishly) brave, go into the door. Whatever
you need do, do it and hop into the door.

This is the boss room. As soon as you go in, charge right. You’ll be
greeted by the commander. Once he finishes, shoot the guy who
approaches from the right, then hook and climb up onto the
platform where the commander (the guy waving the stick thing
repeatedly) is. Shoot him and any jumping bad guys. When the area’s open,
charge right, kill the guy on the right, and swing diagonally onto the little
platform on the right. The thing on the right is the generator. Get on the left
side of this little platform and fire away. Each time you hit the generator, a
sound will play, and the room will flash. Keep firing. Stop only when a guys
approaches from left (these guys occasionally take a shot at you.) If you’re at
the left and facing right, fire continuously to kill all jumpers and damage the
generators. You’ll destroy it quickly. You’ve just beaten the first level!
What’s more, we’ve obtained energy recovery pills! Notice, however, that
they’re not pills; it’s a flask of green liquid.

NOTES: IN THE BOSS/GENERATOR ROOMS, YOU DON’T GET ANY BULLETS FOR LIFE POINTS.
ALSO, THERE’S A GLITCH IN THE GAME: AFTER YOU DESTROY THE GENERATOR, YOU ARE
STUCK IN YOUR POSITION, BUT THE BAD GUYS CAN SOMETIMES STILL MOVE AROUND AND
DAMAGE YOU. THIS IS STUPID, BUT CANNOT BE HELPED.

Choose transfer, and move over to area 13. Descend, and HOLD YOUR FIRE! For an
explanation, walk over to the white guy and press up. (He’ll tell you this is a
neutral area.)

If you are curious, hit the save button and shoot a couple shots. All the
normal people will disappear, and peacekeepers will come in and attack. You can
still survive easily if you’re good, but there’s no reason to.

Well, anyhow, go to the right and you’ll talk with the guy outside the first
door. He tells you he hasn’t heard of Super Joe. The news must not get around
to this part of the battlefield. Anyhow, go in the door and get the bullet. Not
that it’s significant, but might as well grab it. Go back out, then go to the
right, then swing over the gap and keep walking until there’s a door up above.
Hook up to get to that place, then go in the door. Grab the flares with your
bionic arm: it’s much easier. From here you can manually exit the level;
there’s nothing else. If you want to actually “beat” the level, get out and
walk all the way to the right, whereupon you leave the level. You can also exit
by walking all the way left, but I’M GETTING OFF THE TOPIC! Moving right along…

Transfer to Area 1, then over to Area 4. Descend, and take the flares if they
haven’t already been selected. Parachute into this level, then hit Start to
activate the flares. Charge right and notice the spikes. Stand at the edge,
then swing right over them. Then there’s three really long swings over rows of
spikes. For each, go all the way to the edge before swinging. On the last
swing, get ready, because there’s a crazy guy who charges you with a knife
right where you land.

Kill him, go to the edge, and execute another long swing. There’s a stationary
shooter behind a barrel where you land. Use the barrel sequence and kill him,
and grab the bullet with the bionic arm. Then hook straight up and go into the
communication door. As before, choose communicate, then cut him off. Go back
out. Walk to left part of the platform and hook straight up twice. If you want
to, then kill the guy behind the barrel on the right, but you don’t have to.
Walk left, and kill the guy on the upper platform by hooking up if desired. If
you’re good, however, you might be able to swing off the rock and hook straight
up onto the platform. Either way, you’ll get onto the silver platform. There’s
a mad guy with a knife you need to worry about AND a stationary shooter, so
inch slowly right until you see someone, whereupon you can convert them to
bullets.Whatever you do, get to the boss door, which is at the upper right
corner of this level. Here’s on way: once at the rightmost edge, swing off as
far as you can. You’ll land on a very small platform. Swing right as you can
again a few times, then get onto the rightmost platforms. Keep on going up,
then kill the sword guy. Hook diagonally and kill the stationary shooter, then
hop into the boss door.

Once you enter the boss room, you’ll see no guys. (gasp!) You’ll also notice
two red life dots (gasp!) Get onto the first, long platform where the commander
was on in Area 1. Keep on walking right, then swing onto the small platform
right next to the generator. While in air, you’ll be greeted by the bearded
soldier. You don’t really have to kill him. There are several techniques to
beating the bearded soldier-guarded control rooms.1- You can get your butt down
and shoot him up, then return peacefully and destroy the generator.
2- You can just ignore him and keep on shooting until he knocks you down, then
get right back up onto the platform, shoot until he knocks you down, etc.
3- You can let him greet you, then swing all the way to the left. The gunner
will follow you. He’s slow, however. Once he’s at the left side, start swinging
quickly to the right again, then shoot the generator before he can catch up.
NSMWhatever you do, you’ll receive the wide cannon, which sounds good but
really is virtually useless except against convoys.

Transfer here, and take the medicine/pills/green flask (you might need it, but
you don’t want to take the flare bombs to your next level if you forget,
anyways.) Charge right. You can talk to the infamous, haughty Killt and his
assistant for a rather long time. Or, you can shoot the gun so he disappears,
but be attacked. (There is a better way… but I won’t tell you here.)
Either way, go into the first door and grab the free man. Get back out and look
at the right. A barrier! You gotta shoot it. (You don’t HAVE to; check out all
of BCHQ and find out the secret method of getting past the barrier!) Then swing
right and go to the second door, where you get the brown/orange communicator,
which you don’t really even need. Exit manually or walk to the edge.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Transfer to Area 5. If you’ve been following my directions exactly, you’ll run
into a convoy! Oh, no! Just kidding. If you feel somewhat challenged, use the
wide cannon. Otherwise, use the regular gun. Either way, know that you can’t
use your item (e.g., your medicine.) Once you enter, you’ll be in either the
desert or the island convoy. Either way, keep shooting like crazy while moving
forward. In the desert convoy, you’ll see two jeeps ride across the screen. If
you kill one, it leaves behind an eagle badge. This is a continue. In the
island convoy, there’s a shielded guy instead of the jeep. When in the convoys,
you can also use the bionic arm to brush away most enemies and bullets.
That shouldn’t be too hard, though. Hurry up and descend to Area 5.

BE WARNED THAT IF YOU HAVE ONLY A FEW (E.G., FOUR OR LESS) HEALTH DOTS, THEN
THIS LEVEL MAY BE FAIRLY DIFFICULT. REMEMBER, IF YOU'RE WEAK, USE YOUR
MEDICINE BY HITTING START!

Run all the way to the barrel once in the area. Then swing diagonally
off the building. Keep going right, and you’ll see a stationary shooter behind
a barrel. Use the barrel sequence, grab the bullet, move a little to the left,
and hook straight up twice onto the red platform. From there, time well, hook
up again, and shoot the stationary shooter. Ignore the blue ball that falls,
wait till it goes off screen, then swing to the right. Keep going right until
you’re under the other gray building. Hook up onto the building, and, timing
carefully, hook up again and kill the stationary shooter. This next part is a
little difficult. Shoot your bionic arm upwards a few times to study the place
from where the arm comes. You’ll notice it’s a little behind his head. Having
done that, line yourself up with the light pole (either one.) Now get ready,
then hook up to the pole. When you stand up on it, you’ll slip off, so when you
stand on it, hook up VERY QUICKLY to the platform above. You’ll probably fail a
few times before succeeding, but you can do it.

Once on the platform above, walk a bit left so you're not under the stationary
shooter, then hook up, timing well to avoid being shot. Kill the shooter, then
hook straight up onto the next platform. This is another hard part. Line
yourself up with the light pole again, and this time, when you get on top of
it, grab diagonally left by pressing the left arrow and the A button.

Once you make the connection, get onto the platform and use the barrel sequence
to kill the guy. Then hook up to the place where there are no barrels. Hook
straight up and get onto the above platform, then go to the left until you can
see and shoot the guy on the left. Ignore the bullet he leaves behind, walk to
the left, and fall of the platform. Inch left until you see the blue ball. As
soon as you see it, run right and hook up onto the platform you were just on
again. Wait until the ball passes under you, then fall off to the left again
and keep going left, and once you see him, kill the stationary shooter. Get his
bullet, then hook straight up a few times to get to the level on which there is
a door on the right. Go into that door, which leads to a communication door.
After you get in, just get right out without even walking to the communicating
thing.

BE WARNED AGAIN THAT THIS NEXT SEQUENCE IS VERY FRANTIC. MOVE VERY QUICKLY IN
THIS NEXT SECTION. BASICALLY, YOU WANT TO GET UP AS FAST AS YOU CAN WITHOUT
GETTING HIT BY THE ELECTRIC FLYING GUYS. YOU CAN KILL THOSE GUYS, BUT THEY
DON'T LEAVE BULLETS, AND THEY REGENERATE IN A FEW SECONDS. ALSO, YOU CAN HIT
THEM WITH YOUR BIONIC ARM, BUT THEY RECOVER SOON.

As you were just warned, the next part is fairly hard, unless you move very
quickly. There are several general strategies to get past the electric flying
guys. Choose the one that seems best for you.
1- Go quickly up as fast as you can, ignoring the electric guys, until you get
up to the top. PROS: fastest CONS: most dangerous
2- Go slowly up, killing the electric guys as you go, and using the time they
take to regenerate to go up. PROS: pretty reliable CONS: pretty slow
3- Go up, knocking away the electric guys as you go, and using the time they
take to recover to go up. PROS: pretty fast CONS: pretty dangerous
4- Build up six or more life dots and slowly go at your own pace. PROS: most
relaxed, and eliminates need to gather bullets later CONS: takes a very long
time to build up those dots

Anyway, I favor method 1. If you do too, as soon as you get out of the door
again, hook straight up twice, then walk a bit to the right so you're under the
gray building. Once there, hook up twice again, and notice the electric barrier
thing. It shoots electric shots sideways once in a while that may not only hurt
you, but, worse, also break your bionic connection. So hook up RIGHT NEXT TO
THE ELECTRIC SHOCKER, facing the opposite direction, and hook up quickly twice
to get past both electric shockers.

If you hook up perfectly, you'll get right past the shockers and onto the
platform onto which the second shocker is attached. There's a light pole on the
right, and one on the left off the screen. If you're confident, try the visible
one, the one on the right. Attach to it, get up onto it, and QUICKLY HOOK
STRAIGHT UP ONTO THE PLATFORM ABOVE. If this sounds too hard, move to the left,
grab the pole, and drop off midswing to land on the barreled platform. Wait for
good timing, then hook up from the platform, kill the stationary shooter, and
go to the right. EITHER WAY, you'll end up below a gray building with vents
without a shocker on it. Hook up onto the building.

When you're on the building, hook up again to get on the red platform. Go to
the right and position yourself under the light pole again. Yep, that's right.
Get onto the pole and grab the platform diagonally again. (Oh, quit grumbling;
it's not that hard...) Once on the platform, hook up onto the place where there
are no barrels. Get up, then hook up again to get onto the building. Then walk
a little left, and you'll see a stationary shooter. Duck and shoot him, then
fall off the building to the left, walk under the building where the bullet he
left behind is. Get up on it, then hook up again. You can either kill this guy
or ignore him by swinging to the right. It's easier to kill him, though. Do so,
then hook straight up and kill the other stationary shooter. Then run right to
the communication door. Now celebrate: you don't have to fight those electric
things again! If you need to use your medicine, do so.

You don't need to communicate. BE WARNED THAT THE NEXT SEQUENCE INVOLVES
COMPLEX BIONIC ARM CONTROL. WORSE, THERE ARE MANY PARACHUTERS TO THROW YOU OFF.
AVOID THEM, SHOOT THEM, KNOCK THEM OFF, BUT DON'T LET THEM GET IN YOUR WAY!
Just get right out the door, as before. Hook straight up quickly, then go left
so you're under the small platform. Notice the springs above. The easiest way
to get to them is by a basic, diagonal grab.

When you hook up onto the springs, you're going to bounce off, so prepare.
While you're bouncing off, be sure to grab the platform (either left or right;
at this point, it doesn't really matter.) Then hook up onto the next level of
platforms, then onto the next set of springs. Bounce off, grab one of the
platforms, then connect straight up and walk into the boss door triumphantly!
You're rewarded with (at least, one of) the easiest boss(es) in the game: the
"Pi Pi Pi" system. There are several ways to kill this foolish mechanism. If
you're wary, go under it all the way to the right. Since the system only shoots
left, you're safe from any damage. From there, keep shooting, and you'll hit it
whenever it comes down. Otherwise, just get onto the bottom left platform and
keep shooting at it. Its bullets are slow, so if one comes at you, run away
from it and you'll be safe. Then destroy the generator.

Yes! You're done with this long stage! Even better, you get THE ROCKET
LAUNCHER, the best gun in the game :)!

Be sure to take the rocket launcher (the gun with the big fat barrel) into this
area. AT THE BEGINNING OF THIS LEVEL, RUN LEFT! AS SOON AS YOU LAND FROM YOUR
PARACHUTE, A BAD GUY WILL COME RIGHT WHERE YOU ARE/WERE! Shoot that guy, and
grab the bullet. Fall off to the left, avoiding the bombs the guy below throws,
and blast him to get a bullet. If you want to gather bullets, this isn't a bad
place to do so before going in the door. Parachuters come in endlessly at a
pretty good rate. If you don't want to, just go straight in the door.
You'll be swept away by the puddles/blobs right away, so don't try to run away.
They'll take you to the right. Quickly, grab hold of the first platform you
can get, hook up to it, and get on.

When you're on the yellow platform, run to the right side, swing off, and grab
(in midair) the small platform extending out of the gray rock.

Once there, run under the small space so you're under the long yellow platform.
Hook up onto that, then hook to the right onto the platform with a spring on
it. There's a guy driving a tractor above, so, timing well, get up where he is,
blast his tractor, and, if he pops out, kill him. Notice he's a midget! Laugh
(optional.) Run to the right and hook up twice onto the platform with another
tractor. Shoot it and keep going left.

Hop over the crate/box, but don't go in the communication door; you don't need
to. Instead, wait for good timing and drop down a level, then keep swinging to
the left onto the platform.

Once at the left, swing off about the midpoint of that upper segment and then
hook up to the platform above on which two crate sit. (the pictures make a lot
more sense than this writing, so go to
http://www.elitecoder.com/bionic/walk/38.htm.)

Swing across the two crates and drop just to the left of the left crate. Timing
well, drop off, killing or avoiding the crate, and then get right to the edge
by the gap. Drop off the gap and grab the first platform that comes around.
Once you get on the yellow platform, go left and get onto the orange one.
(again, see the pictures.)

Get into the door. This boss is a platoon. You can handle it. Just charge
right, killing all the guys in your way. Hook up next to the generator. Since
the rocket launcher is so powerful, it'll only take a few (e.g., 3, 4, or 5)
shots. You get the pendant, which will block one shot whenever you use it.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This area is a nature resort. That is, there's quicksand-like snow, giant
spiders, man-eating plants, dead trees, and floating balloon-like things I'll
refer to as "jellyfish." Anyway, after you parachute in, swing off the farthest
end of the tree. You won't die if you fall into the snow; you'll just start
sinking. So if/when you land in the snow, slog through it to the right until
you can reach the tree on the next piece of land. (See the pictures at
http://www.elitecoder.com/bionic/walk/39.htm.)

Once on the next piece of grassy land, swing off the other tree, slog through
the snow again, and grab the tree on the next piece of land again. (Forget that
parachute item, although there's an easy way to get it...) Now that that's over
with, run to the right. KEEP RUNNING! Do NOT stop! Before long, you'll see a
man-eating plant erupt behind you. ONCE THAT HAPPENS (and make sure it does
happen away from you,) then hook straight up, avoiding the spiders.

From there, move left and hook up onto the platform. Then move left and hook up
again to the next platform. KEEP MOVING TO THE LEFTMOST POINT OF EACH PLATFORM,
THEN HOOK STRAIGHT UP TO THE NEXT PLATFORM, THEN REPEAT. But how to handle the
spiders?
1- Keep shooting them. You can often destroy them even if they don't seem to be
right in front of you. Remember that your rocket launcher releases a "fat"
bullet/rocket, and they're rather fat spiders, so you can easily get 'em. (Side
note: You should be taking the rocket launcher to every level now.)
2- Keep throwing your bionic arm at them. Not only will it effectively drive
them back, but they'll be frozen for a second or two before moving again.
They're fat spiders, again, so you can easily get 'em.
3- Just keep on moving quickly, only taking care of the spiders when they
present an immediate danger. You don't need to waste all of your time killing
or shooing away those oversized arachnids; if you keep moving, you can avoid
most of them altogether.

Remember: KEEP MOVING TO THE LEFTMOST POINT OF EACH PLATFORM, THEN HOOK
STRAIGHT UP TO THE NEXT PLATFORM, THEN REPEAT. This is the easiest way to get
past these spiders and plants. Don't get freaked out by the plants either; they
take a while to "erupt" and try to swallow you whole :).

Soon, you'll run into the jellyfish gang. These are really easy. You can shoot
them (duh,) throw your bionic arm at them, or avoid them, just like the
spiders. Notice, however, that even your bionic arm will kill them. And when
they (presumably) pop and start falling down after they die, don't be afraid:
they cannot hurt you while they're falling down like that.

Once up there by the jellyfish, walk quickly to the right and hook up, then
hook up again until you're on the same level as that door. Walk into the door,
and you're indoors. (This time, it really was cold outside.)

When you're inside, walk to the left and fall right off the platform. After a
relatively long descent, you'll end up next to a blue elevator. Be warned: when
you step on the elevator, it'll fall really fast. Therefore (and read this
before doing it) walk onto the elevator, and as soon as you do, turn to the
right again and grab the platform with the bionic arm (see the pictures at
http://www.elitecoder.com/bionic/walk/39.htm.)

Then swing to the bottom green platform. Fall off, then grab the next platform
underneath, facing left. Fall onto the below platform, then swing off to the
left, and notice two very thin columns. You'll have to swing off those to make
it to the boss door, which is way on the left. Good luck!

Once in the boss door, you'll have no problem; it's the Pi Pi Pi defense
mechanism. You have the rocket launcher, so you'll quickly destroy both the
system and the generator. All right!

-----SECTION 3.10 AREA 6-----

Complete section corresponding NSM at:

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This is a pretty tough level. There are several places requiring precision
swinging. If you're a beginner, you may want to stock up on continues by
running into those convoys before trying this level. Anyhow, shoot down the
barrier and wait for good timing by the light pole. See that tempting free man?
Here's how to get it. Swing off the light pole and, while flying through the
air, hook straight up. (see the pictures at
http://www.elitecoder.com/bionic/walk/310.htm.)

When you're on the platform with the free man, fall off the right side, but as
soon as you do, turn back left and grab the platform you were just on (it
doesn't matter whether it's a short connection or a long one.) Then swing off
to the right and keep swinging until you reach the green platform(s.)

Keep going to the right. Because of all the parachuters, I can't give you a
definitive course, but try to hook up whenever you can and keep moving right
until you reach the place shown below. When you're there, swing off the light
pole and land to the right of the springs. Hook and get up, blast the fat
remote controller guy, and keep going right. Watch out for those parachuters.
For this next sequence, yes, look at the pictures. But read this anyway. Swing
off the first light pole, ignore the second one, and either land on the small
platform or just fall. If you fall onto the lower green place, just hook up to
the small blue platform and hook up again to get to the top blue platform,
which is shown in the picture.

Then grab the light pole on the right. As you swing off, grab the next one. As
you swing off that one, grab the next one. (see the pictures at
http://www.elitecoder.com/bionic/walk/310.htm.) It's pretty hard
to do this right, and you'll probably lose a couple lives before getting it.
(remember manually exiting.)

You'll land on the green platform when successful. If/when you do get it right,
swing off the light pole and get up onto the platform. From there, hook
straight up, get up, then get right at the edge of the platform. Hook
diagonally (see the first picture.) Then just shorten the connection all the
way and drop down. This is the safest way to get onto the platform shown in the
second picture. The rest of these pictures show how to get onto the green
platform, way on the right. It's pretty hard...

OK, so you're on the green. Now what? Avoid the spiked balls and start going
up. Huh? Well, you've basically gotta get up to the top of this green
structure. This is extremely hard and tedious unless you know how to get onto
platforms with things on them. What do I mean? See the pictures. Basically, you
hook up, swing off, then hook up again to the upper platform. Swing off, and
you'll get up onto the platform. Try it a few times and you'll get it.

The boss of this tedious level is a big robot. Here's how to beat him.
1- Just go onto the platform he's on, shoot the generator once or twice, get
hit by the robot, then repeat once or twice to defeat the generator.
2- Take the time to destroy the robot, enjoy seeing him blow up, then defeat
the generator. Check out the pictures to see his weak spot... his head.

For this level, you get the permit. BE SURE TO TAKE IT WITH YOU INTO AREA 14!

BE SURE TO TAKE THE PERMIT (it looks like a letter) WITH YOU TO THIS AREA! Or,
you'll see this...

After you get in, watch out for the spiked balls. Interestingly enough, if you
shoot, the spiked balls will disappear along with the people. Anyway, in the
first door is the blue communicator. Grab it. In the second door are ten
bullets. There is a way to get all of them... but I won't tell you here.

Remember to take your medicine (doesn't that sound like Mom...) and your blue
communicator to this level. IF IT SAYS YOU DON'T HAVE ENOUGH POWER, YOU DIDN'T
FOLLOW MY INSTRUCTIONS FOR ALL THE PAST AREAS!

OK. Well, at the beginning (note that you don't parachute in) walk over under
the first platform, then hook straight up and get onto the platform. Then walk
to the edge of the platform so that when you hook up you won't run into the
barrel. Timing to avoid the stationary shooter's shots, hook up to the right of
the barrel, as you positioned. Kill any guys on the right and the stationary
shooter. Then hook up again, and kill the guys on the left and the right. Swing
over to the right side. Connect to the corner of the platform just above to the
left. Get up and kill the guys there. Ideally, you want to get onto the small
platform just to the left of the eagle sign. Get there if you can. If there's a
guy walking there, use the technique shown below.

If you use this technique, you're in place for the next step. If you went
straight up to the place left of the eagle, just fall down to the left. Either
way, you're now on the gray stone area. Go to the left and hook up. Shoot the
stationary shooter on the right if you want. Otherwise, hook up twice to the
top, killing the guys if you want. If you need some bullets (you should have 6
or 7 life dots by now if you're not too good,) then go to the right and kill
the parachuters that come down. You don't really need to, though. Hop into the
door. There should be a weird white shooting thing on the left of you. (If it's
on the right of you, you went in the wrong door. Get back out, go to the left
door, and go in that one.) Just keep shooting at it to destroy it. Sometimes
your shots will bounce off, sometimes they'll damage it, sometimes they'll
destroy it. I don't think there's really a pattern to how this happens. If you
do, email me. Anyhow, hop into the door on the left after destroying the double
decker cannon.

There's an elevator on the left; hop on it and ride it all the way to the top.
Once there, go in the door. You'll notice a item parachute. Get it if you can.
Then get into the communication door. Communicate, then cut him off to save
time. Come back out and (gasp!) there's another item parachute. It may be sort
of cheap, but you can keep on going in and out of the door and getting the item
parachutes.

Anyway, swing over to the wall. You'll fall and land on a small silvery
platform. Fall off to the left and immediately grab the platform again. Swing
over to the right again, fall to the left, and grab the stone this time. Swing
off and you'll land by the door. See the pictures at
http://www.elitecoder.com/bionic/walk/312.htm.

Go in the door, kill this double decker cannon, then go out the other side.
As soon as you get out of the door, run right. As you run, blast that remote
controller guy. Keep running, and fall off. You'll land on the springs.
Springing off the second spring, grab the platform.

Get up onto the platform and get the bullet. Keep running right, fall off, and
get into the communication room. Communicate, cut him off, and get out. Throw
your bionic arm diagonally left, get onto the platform, kill the remote
controller guy again, and keep moving left. Swing over the gap, then go in the
door.

Kill the double decker cannon again, then go through the door. DO NOT just
charge left as soon as you come out of this door, however. You have to wait for
the sideways elevator. Wait, then walk onto it when it comes. For some reason,
this is really tough for some people. Anyway, after you're on it, hook straight
up onto the platform with springs. Get on it, and spring off to the left. Keep
hooking straight up and go out the door.

Go back on the elevator, go down one level, and go in the boss door. It's just
a platoon, nothing special. There are, however, a few guys with shields. It'll
be tough to kill them, so just charge through the crowd of people. You only
need a few shots with the rocket launcher, anyhow.

While transferring to this area, if you've followed this walkthrough well,
you'll run into a convoy. No biggie, right? Again, use the wide cannon if
you're nervous. But you have a few health dots now, so it should be no
problem.

At the beginning, you'll meet a type of guy I call "bionic dude." He tries to
trick you by going up and down as well as left and right. Here's the way to
beat him, though. It's known as the "bionic maneuver."

Basically, as shown above, you hook straight up and shoot as you drop. He'll
move up right into your shot. Head right. See the single brick jutting out of
the ceiling? Swing diagonally off it and land on the right to get the free man
(there's another amusing way... but I won't tell you here.) Fall down facing
right. If you're good, you can shoot just before you land and kill the bionic
dude at the bottom. Otherwise, move to the left and use the bionic maneuver.
Swing over the crate and go right until you're stopped by the spikes. Hook
straight up a few times until you're at the top platform. Swing to the right,
and kill the bionic dude.

Bounce off the springs and grab the platform above. Hook up a few times.
Then position yourself right under that small safe spot next to the spikes.
See the pictures at http://www.elitecoder.com/bionic/walk/313.htm.

After the mine cart passes under you, keep hooking up quickly all the way
to the top, then run right. Keep going, swinging over gaps as necessary.
Fall down when you need to, and you'll come to the place shown in the
third picture. Fall down and grab it, as shown, then keep going
right until you're at the place in the fourth picture. From there, keep hooking
up. Then move to the left and keep hooking up. You'll find the boss door. But
before you go in, know that right outside the boss door is a good place to
gather bullets. Just kill all the parachuters.

The boss is nothing special, just a platoon again. Finish it up!

Complete section corresponding NSM at:
http://www.elitecoder.com/bionic/walk/314one.nsm (done with 3-way gun) OR
http://www.elitecoder.com/bionic/walk/314two.nsm (done with rocket launcher)
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Make sure to take the 3-way gun with you into this level (it looks like its
name suggests.) Once you land, shoot down the barrier.

At this point, you have a choice. If you're not so hot with the bionic arm, go
on with the 3-way gun. But if you're confident, A+B+Start out of the level and
come back in with the Rocket Launcher. The first method is safer; the second,
faster (if successful, that is)

Run right. Grab the
upper platform and get up on it. Then keep going right under the next platform
and getting up.

Once at the top, run right without stopping and fasten yourself to the top of a
straight-up grapple. Wait for the tractor to pass under you, then drop down and
run to the right. Fasten up when you can, and run to the right again. Watch the
top. It changes from white rock to red rock. When it's red rock, grab straight
up and get up onto it.

Hook up again onto the green platform. Run left, pass one platform, then hook
straight up onto the next one you see. Hook straight up several times more
until you see a transformer on a wire. Hook onto that, swing off, and grab the
next one. Swing off that, and grab the next one (Note: you can land on the
platform on the middle for a breather, but it's harder to get back on the
transformers.) Swing off that one, then grab the next one. When you swing off
this one, don't grab the next one; grab the one after that. See the pictures
at http://www.elitecoder.com/bionic/walk/314.htm

The boss is another giant robot. You should kill him since you have such a weak
gun (unless you came with the Rocket Launcher, of course.) That's it!

Well, actually, that's not it. You have to talk with Super Joe for a very, very
long time. Then, that's it! That's right: you get no bonus of 10 bullets, and
you get no special item. Dang that Super Joe!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

When descending, don't forget to switch back to the rocket launcher! It's still
a lot better than any other gun. Start by walking a little to the right and
hooking up. From here, you have to exterminate all the lasers. Shoot the laser
(which stands for Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation)
down, then get up on the platform and shoot the next one as you fall.

Then get on top of that platform, walk to the right edge, then hook straight up
and wait. A laser will come from the right. Blast it, then drop down. Fall off
the right side, and blast the next one as you fall.

Then connect to the gray column, swing off, and then hook straight up onto the
platform. Then get on the crate and swing off to the right, and hook straight
up onto the small red platform.

Hook up to the top. Walk left, then hook up so you're at the position of the
first picture. Swing off to the left, then keep swinging until you land on the
red platform on the left. From there, keep hooking up. At the top, start going
to the other side and falling down. At the bottom are spikes. Let the water
blobs carry you. (There is another way... but it's worse.)

Then keep hooking up again, walk to the left, and start falling down. Swing
over the crate by the communication door.

Go into the communication door, not to communicate, but for timing purposes.
Get back out, and AS SOON AS YOU GET OUT, CHARGE LEFT. AND AS SOON AS YOU CAN
REACH IT, SWING OFF THE COLUMN. If you do it correctly, you'll land on the
sideways elevator. Once on it, duck under the spikes and walk off when it
reaches the left side.

When you're on the gray column, fall off and walk left. Robots will attack.
Duck and shoot them when they do. Keep going until you see a place where you
can grapple up. Do so. If there's a robot there, run to the right until it's
offscreen, then go back and try again. The action's pretty frantic around here,
so go as fast as you can to preserve your health.

Once you have a chance to hook up, do so. Keep on hooking up until there's a
door on your level. Go into it. It's the Pi Pi Pi defense mechanism. Piece of
cake.

You'll probably die a few times in this area unless you A+B+Start whenever
you're about to die. Anyhow, start off by going to the right. Swing off, swing
off again, and swing off again. (That means look at the pictures at
http://www.elitecoder.com/bionic/walk/316.htm because I
can't describe it.)

You should land on or near the platform with a fat, happy, and stupid guy with
boxing gloves. Why is he stupid? Just duck while on the platform, and he'll
punch above you. Or, just shoot him quickly and he won't even have a chance.

After you take care of him, fall down off the right side and bounce off the
first spring. Don't keep springing off all three in a row, though. As you
spring off the first one, grab diagonally to the upper right and catch the
platform there. Get on it. See the pictures.

Then just jump off the spring, fall off the platform, spring again, and grab
hold of that platform with the robot on it. Get up on the platform and blast
the robot. Go to the right side of the platform and hook straight up. Bounce
off the spring(s) and hook up. You'll grab the platform above.

Time well and blast that robot as well. Then go to the right and just keep
hooking up. Kill the fat, stupid, happy guy and go to the left where the barrel
is. From there, you need to swing a few times and land on the platform on the
left. See the pictures.

When on the platform, you need to use the spring to get some lift, then grab
the cylinder thing above, swing off, grab the next one, and swing off, landing
in front of the boss door. See the pictures.

The boss is a commander and three lasers, only two of which work. After the
greeting, get up onto the first platform and kill the commander. Then quickly
hook straight up while no lasers are right there. Blast the two lasers as
shown.

Then work your way right, blasting the last laser, then destroy the generator.
You get the bulletproof vest after this level, which blocks every other shot.
It only blocks some kinds of shots, though. Only one level left to go!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
-----SECTION 3.17 AREA 12-----

Complete section corresponding NSM at:

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The last level! Take the bulletproof vest with you. It looks just like it
sounds. Once you land your parachute, fall off the left side, then get on the
elevator. Ride down until you're at the opening. Ignore the communication door
and go to the left, then enter. Once you're in there, keep moving left and
right down the platforms.

After a few platforms, you'll see a door. Go in. This control/boss room is
pretty different from the others you've seen. It's pretty simple, however. Wait
for the little gun to shoot at you, then spring up and grab the platform above.
Then just shoot twice.

That's all you need to destroy it. Drop off and go back out the door. AS SOON
AS YOU GET OUT, run left and keep going down the platforms. If you stay still
even for, say, half a second, the electric shock things will zap you. Once at
the bottom, go out the door.

Outside, you can see a bionic dude. You know how to handle him. Walk a little
right, and you'll see another. Take care him as well. Proceed right (ignoring
the elevator) until you reach the bionic dude behind the orange barrier. NOTE:
IF THIS BARRIER IS IMPASSABLE (E.G., HAS AN ELECTRIC FORCE FIELD IN IT,) THEN
YOU DIDN'T DESTROY THE CONTROL ROOM GENERATOR.

Then swing over to the right and go down the elevator. After you've fallen
down, run right to the door. As soon as you go in, you'll see a ball that will
drop down. The easy way to take care of this is just to hook straight up and
wait for the ball to pass.

Anyway, fall down the platforms again. When you see the first door, ignore it.
It's a fake. However, fall down a few more platforms until you reach the very
small gap between two of the platforms.

You can get through this small opening without being hit, but it's pretty
difficult. It's easier to take the hit. Then keep going down until you reach
the bottom, where there's a door. Go inside, and you'll find that that it's a
control room, much like the last one: small, with springs, and with a single
platform. However, in this room, there's a stream of parachuters you'll have to
take care of. They never stop, so just wait for good timing, then spring up and
shoot the generator. Simple. Get back out.

Now you have to go back up. It's easy, though. Just hook straight up, wait for
good timing, and get on the platform. Then hook straight up to the next
platform, wait for good timing, and get on the platform. Continue this process
until you reach the top. Go back through the door. Walk to the left and go down
the elevator, all the way to the bottom. There are two guys here, one behind a
barrel, and one walking along on the left of the barrel. Kill 'em both, then
walk left. Pass this orange barrier, then go down the platform all the way.
Notice the spikes on the right (gasp!). This row of spikes extends for a pretty
long time. Swing off to the right, then swing off again, and again, and again,
until you reach the other side.

Go in the door on the right. You'll see Killt again. Go to the right, and
you'll talk with him. Then he blows up, and Master-D comes out. He talks to
you, then you're pitted against the Albatros. On the upper right section of
this mechanism is a glowing curved object. You need to shoot this part. There
are two methods I use to destroy this. Both are relatively difficult, however,
so be prepared. The first way is shown below. You walk to the right until
you're under the left fire-shooting thing. Then you hook straight up twice very
quickly, then shoot a few times.

The second way is to hook up onto the rectangular part near the left,
then swing off to the right and hook straight up while swinging off.
Then you blast it. See the pictures at
http://www.elitecoder.com/bionic/walk/317.htm for further detail.

Either way, try your luck at destroying the thing. When you do, you'll end up
at an airplane hangar. Run left and swing over the gap of spikes. You'll see a
guy standing there. Talk to him. He'll tell you he's Hal and give you the Hyper
Bazooka. Its shot looks just like the rocket launcher's, however. Well, you
have to now swing off to the right and blast the helicopter's cockpit as you
fall. The easiest way to do this is to stand on the right of Hal, where you see
the gray marks in the ground. Stand on these marks, as shown below in the
pictures at http://www.elitecoder.com/bionic/walk/317.nsm. Then swing off
to the right and blast the helicopter's cockpit. If
you stand more to the left, you might not be able to shoot the cockpit. If you
stand more to the right, your reflexes must be faster.

Anyway, you'll hit the plane sooner or later. When you do, watch Master-D blow
up. (Cool!) Then you're in a place with platforms as you're introduced to the
60-second timer. Essentially, you just have to keep hooking up where you can,
all the way to the top. It's pretty easy at the start, until you run into a
robot near the middle. Anyway, begin by going to the right. Keep hooking up
until you can hook up on the left or the right. Go left and keep hooking up
until you get on the platform where the robot is. After he greets you, you
have several choices.

1- Kill him (you can; there's just no health meter on the screen,) then get up
and complete the level.
2- Swing through him, then get up and complete the level.
3- Get onto the platform above, hook to the right, then get up and complete the
level.

It's really hard to get screenshots for these, so just download the NSMs. It's
not that hard; you can do it with 42 seconds to spare! Then, well done! You've
won the game!!!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
-----SECTION 4.0 SPEED SECTION-----
(http://www.elitecoder.com/bionic/walk/40.htm)
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

THIS PART IS FOR BEATING BIONIC COMMANDO AS FAST AS YOU CAN.
This section is very brief.

Before we begin, let me make this clear: when you time yourself beating a game,
you time yourself from the title screen/introduction to the point at which you
can do no more. In Bionic Commando, this means you time yourself from the title
screen to the point where you say, "Is Joe still inside?"

Time yourself to see how fast you go. Email me your name and time along with
any proof you might have, and I can put you on the Top Ten! How can you prove
your times? The best way is to create an NSM recording of yourself, which
creates undeniable proof. Or, you can just give me your word. If I happen to
get lots of times for the chart, I won't count the "just my word" times.
Here are some general tips when you have, um, a need for speed:
1- Swinging beats running.
2- Continuous swinging beats interrupted swinging.
3- Except for a little bit at the beginning, gathering bullets is unnecessary
and stupid.
4- Manually exiting (A+B+Start) beats regular exiting in neutral areas.
5- Charging through enemies often beats avoiding a few hits.
6- Going quickly to the boss room beats killing every guy and/or going to
unnecessary parts.
7- Skipping communication room beats communicating when you don't need to.
8- Cutting people off when communicating beats hearing all they have to say
when you have to communicate.
