NOTE: A VERY SPECIAL THANKS to STEVEN BUCKS FOR HIS FAQ ON THE G.F
AND THEIR ABILITIES. IF YOU WANT TO VIEW JAPANESE, REFER TO HIS
FAQ. HIS FAQ IS VERY GOOD.

Guardians are very important in the game as they can done devastating
damage to your foes. They are the returning summons of FF7 and FFT.
Summoning a G.F. will result a blue bar covering the character's time
bar. The stats of the G.F. will be overlapping the character's stats.
Guardian cannot be heal why staying in hotels/tent/Dormitory. They can
only be healed by purchasing healing items such as G-Returner from Pet
shops around the world. Guardians not only allows you to have an edge
in combat, they also help in boosting up your character's ability.
Learning this skills requires AP which can be won from battles against
BOSS/monsters. EXP will causes the G.F. to level up. The higher the
level, the more damage the Guardian will do against an enemy foe.

This has been tested by me. If your Guardian has mastered the previous
ability such as Summon Magic +10%, it will gain the second version,
Summon Magic+20%. Also if that particular G.F has levelled up, It will
also gain new abilities.

Summon Attack: ThunderStorm
Elemental: Lightning-based elemental to all foes.
Getting It: This G.F. can be get in Disc 1. Just head for the
tutorial menu from the Balamb Garden's Network.

Summon Attack: Completely Wild
Elemental: Poison-based and Status attacks against all opponents.
Getting It: This is rather tough and EXPENSIVE. Firstly you must
have the following:
6x Molbor Tentacles [steal from Molbor, get Bundora
from Diablo. Molbors are found outside the Tears
Point]
6x Iron Pipe [steal these from those yellow and green
Gorillas outside Galbadia area]
6x Remedy Plus [have aleast 60 Remedies (purchased
from shop for 60,000 gil), and change them to
Remedy Plus, Alexandar's Medicine Level Up Menu.]
1x Soloman's Ring: found at Tears Point [located
south-east from Esthar Captial, refer to Part I for
more details.
Have getting the above requirements, use Solomon's
Ring and you will get the G.F!

Summon Attack: Mega-Flare
Elemental: Non-elemental damage against all foes.
Getting It: Go to Warship Island, after you have received the
Ragnarok, it's is located in southwest region of the
World Map and it's on the west of Edea's House.
Once you enter, you will encounter a light column, do
NOT walk while the light is on, you will encounter
battles, next talk to the column and choose 1st option
for 1st question [fight vs. Rubulmdragon], 2nd option
for 2nd question [fight vs. another Rubulmdragon] and
the third option [hidden] for the last question and
you will have to fight it, a tough one.

there (actually it's the Sabotendar)] Make contact
with it and it's very tough. [Refer to Part I on
information on how to defeat it]

Summon Attack: Kitchen Knife
Elemental: Non-elemenatl damage against all opponents.
Getting It: Head to Sentora Ruins in the Sentora Region. Head to
the main compound where you find a statue of a monster
and the Y-shaped ladder. Kill 20 Tonberi and one of
them will transform into the King Tonberi. Defeat it
and you will get it.

Name of G.F: Eden
Summon Attack: Eternal Breath
Elemental: non-elemental damage against all opponents.
Getting It: After defeating the Bahamut, back to Ragnarok and talk
to everyone. Now re-enter the Warship Island. Now head
down the hole of the damaged light system. Now head
use the steam blocks in this order, 2-2-1-1 and have
Zell operate that huge machine [2nd option] and head
to basement and examine the machine. A huge monster
[Ultimate Weapon] will appear and draw Eden from it.
It's going to be a tough battle! [Refer to Part I for
more details] This section is being contributed by

2.1 Command Abilities (!)
=======================================================================

Command Abilities are basically the abilities that appears in your
command menu during the game. Each can have the maximum of 4 commands.
Certain commands also you to do different things. However the ATTACK
command is a must. All G.Fs except for Phoenix, Chocobo and Odin will
have mastered the Magic, Guardian Forces, Item and Draw Command. Here
is the list.

2.2 Junction Abilities (J)
=======================================================================
This system is very hard to explain in a few words, but it's worth it.
This system works like FF7 elemental's combo, for example, Fire Materia
linked to an Elemental in Cloud's weapon is the same as junctioning
Fire magic to the character's Attributes Defense.

CHARACTER'S STATS JUNCTION

Junctioning magic to HP, Magic, Body Strength, Magic Strength, Spirit,
Dexrity, Vitality and Evasion allows the stats to raise and this
depends on the following cases:

1. Power of the spell : Fire 3 will work much better to Fire 2
2. Number of spells : 24x of Fire will work much better to 10x of
Fire magic.

CHARACTER'S ATTRIBUTES ATTACK /DEFENSE

Junctioning magic to attribute attack will causes the character to do
more damage to the elemental that you have specified. For example,
junctioning Fire magic to Zell's attribute attack, will cause Zell to
do more damage to fire-based monsters such as Bombs. Junction Fire
magic to Zell's attributes defense, will raises Zell's defense against
Fire. There are intermediate levels of attributes defense such as x2
and x4.

CHARACTER'S STATUS ATTACK /DEFENSE

Junctioning a status elemental magic to Status Attack such as Poison
will causes the character to causes the status elemental as he /she
attacks. For example, if you junction Poison magic to Quistis' Status
Attack, she will cause Poison elemental to her enemies. Junctioning
Poison magic to Quistis' Status Defense will cause Quistis to be immune
against Poison. There are intermediate levels of status defense such
as x2 and x4.

3. L I S T O F M A G I C

Magic are very often use in combats in Final Fantasy Series, especially
used in FF7 and FFT. Magic also gives you the edge in combat against
enemies. In FF8, magic can be drawn from Magic Stones and enemies.
Magic could help in battle, like infliciting more damage on your enemy
and help to restore lost HP. To use magic command, you must equip the
G.F, along with the commands, MAGIC and DRAW.

DO YOU KNOW ?
It is possible that you will be able to cast 2 to 3 spells in a row,
provided that you have stocked the magic during your last command.
That is to cast Double or Triple and you will be able to cast spells
in a single turn.

Before you read the section below, here is some important rules about
playing FF8:

1. NEVER ever use same-elemental based magic as the same-elemental
monsters. It will do not damage on them or they will nulifie them [
in other words, use it to regenrate lost HP]. Example, using fire on
the Ifrit
2. Fire-based monsters are basically weak against Cold/Water-based
spells. This also applies vice-versa.
3. Humans basically are weak against status disorder and Poison. Poison
on the other hand has no effect on mechnical beasts.
4. Lightning/Water/Cold works best against mechnical beasts. Fire works
quite well on Poison-based monsters. Wind works well against flying
creatures.

FACTS:
You will get the description during your first attempt to sense an
opponent's data and weakness. However in the second attempt, you will
NOT received the description and the sense will just automatically end
by itself. Press X to exit from information screen during the first
attempt. There are some FAQs that called it as Labeller.

Life : Works like a Phoenix Down. Restores Life to one ally

called this as Raise 1 ~ 2

FACTS:
This magic allows you to force magic spells to bounce back onto your

BARRIER

Barrier : Reduces physical damage. This spell also causes DEF status
of a party member to increases. Averge physical defensive
barrier on one foe.

FACTS:
This magic allows you to reduce damage that are caused by physical
damage. The magic is pretty useful against enemies that depends
mostly on physical damage. Some FAQs or Site called it Protection.

Shield : This spell applies to same purposes as the Magic Barrier
in FF7. This spell reduces magic attacks by half. Magical
defensive barrier for one ally.

FACTS:
This spell is pretty effective against BOSS that solemnly depends on
magic. For example, the final BOSS of Disc 1, Edea.

DOUBLE, TRIPLE

Double : Allows you to cast a Magic twice on 1~2 opponents / allies
Triple : Allows you to cast a Magic triple on 1~3 opponents / allies

FACTS:
A very useful spell. Double allows you to cast a spell twice in a row.
Think about the damage caused if you use Ultima. Triple is even much
better as it will cause you to cast a spell thrice in a row. Think of
the Area Heal in Brigandine! Sorry about the misleading information.

Demi : Reduces a foe's present HP to 3/4

FACTS:
Demi may does low damage due to different opponent's maximum HP
capacity. But they can do tons of reducing a strong foe to weak one.
Use it advisely. Some FAQs called it as Gravide.

------------------------------

Wind : Averge wind-based damage against one foe.
Tornado : Powerful wind-based damage against all foes.

FACTS:
Wind is basically the killer weapon against flying, swooping
creatures. Wind is pretty effective against most BOSS except for
Fuujin in Disc 2.

Aqua : Average water-based damage against one foe.

Water is basically a good elemental against Fire-based monsters. Cold/

pair of giant wings [like an Angel ^_^]

So far I myself not rather sure of it's purpose. This spell applies to

Despell : Removes spells from an opponent.

FACTS:
Despell is another very affective magic. It could remove the
regenration of HP from the Brothers [Minotuar and Sacred].

METEOR

Meteor : Very damaging magic, summons several meteors which affect all
foes. Non-elemental damage to all foes.

FACTS:
Well one of the most destructive spells in FF8. Save it for BOSS for its
high damaging attacks against all opponents.

ULTIMA
-----------------------------

Ultima : Obviously the most damaging magic in Final Fantasy Series.
Does 9000+ to all foes. Non-elemental damage.

FACTS:
This is even more damaging as it does damage to all foes. Save it for
BOSS. You can get this spell early in the game from the Magic Stone
located in front of Village of Shumi Tribe's elevator.

Holy : Another damaging spell. Great against undead.

FACTS:
This spell is still under research and I'm need some time.

Aero : One of the most dangerous that effect-all spells. This could
caused severe damage to all foes.

EARTHQUAKE

Earthquake : Earth-based elemental damage against all foes.

FACTS:
Earth is pretty effective against all land-based monsters or foes. It
does no damage or simply misses against flying-based monsters. Some
FAQs called it as Quake.

AURA
-----------------------------

Aura : A new spell that has been newly introduced into the FF
series. This spell raises the chance of using your
characters' special techniques. Press Triangle repeatedly
and you will a cursor pointing towards right next to the
attack. Press Right and you will be able to use your
special moves.

FACTS:
Aura is rather difficult to find. If you have accquired. Use it
wisely as they will does tremedous damage to opponents. Refer to
the "Special Moves" section for details.

HASTE, SLOW, STOP
-----------------------------

Haste : Speeds up the time bar of the effected character for a
temporarily period of time.
Slow : Slows up the time bar of the effected person for a
temporarily period of time.
Stop : Stops the time of the effected person for a short period of
time.

FACTS:
Haste is one of the best spells in FF series. They could help in
speeding up your time bar, which allows you to inflicit more damage in
a short period of time. Slow on the other is a status disorder-based
magic. It will slows down the time bar of the effected person. Stop
could be extremely dangerous as the effective person would be frozen,
could not attack nor defend. All the status can be removed by using the
Remedy or Cure Magic.

BLIND

Blind : This magic causes blindness on your opponent. This will
decrease hit rate of your foe. This magic causes status
disorder

FACTS:
This magic can counterattack with Cure magic, Eyedrop or the Remedy.
This status also remains even after battles.

SILENT
-----------------------------

Silent : This magic will generate a magic that forces an opponent
to be unable to use magic.

FACTS:
This status disorder can be removed by using Cure magic, Echo Screen
or the Remedy. This status will remains during battles.

SLEEPEL

Sleepel : This magic will causes your opponent to see stars and
eventually fall into deep sleep. ZZZZ.. This will also
causes the character's time bar to stop.

Facts:
This status disorder can only be removed by using the Cure magic and
the Remedy. The status can immediately removed when the character is
being attacked. The status disorder only last during the battle.

CONFU
----------------------------

Confu : One of the most deadly disorder magic in FF series. This
magic will causes your character to one another. The magic
will generate a huge bird [more like a chocobo to me] and
the affected person will twirl in circles, attacking using
the attack command only.

Facts:
This status disorder can only be removed by using the Cure magic and
the Remedy. This status disorder only last during the battle.

POISON
---------------------------

Poison : A green gas generated around the opponent's head, thus
removing small chunks in a turn. There is a difference
between FF7 and FF8, that's is that poison remains while
you are during the field.

FACTS:
This status disorder can only be removed by using the Cure magic,
Antidote and the Reemedy. This magic is useless against mechnical
beasts but very effective against human beings.

BERSERK
--------------------------

Berserk : A very dangerous status disorder. When cast on an ally,
it will results the ally doing ONLY physical attacks.
The effected opponent/ally will be burning red. The time
bar also speeds up.

FACTS:
This status disorder can be removed by use the Cure Magic,
Tranquilizer or the Remedy. This magic could does tons of damage and
disorder in your party. It will EXTREMELY dangerous on your party.

SADDNESS

Saddness : The effect person will be greenish in colour and his/her
time bar will move extremely slow.

FACTS:
Use this on hyperactive humans such as Raijin and Fuujin and they
will paid dearly for it.

Death : This move always misses but with it hit, the opponent will
be down to instant death. This summons a Devil.

FACTS:
One of the most deadly magic in FF8 which will result to instant

cities and towns. Before you can begin a card game, please talk to
the man at the elevator early in the game. He will give you a couple
of cards, about 7 of them. With the cards, press Square and you will
be able to challenge players around the world.

Q1: How do I obtained the cards ?
A: Cards can be obtained in the following ways:
1. Beat the Card Game against other opponents
2. Defeating the monsters [rare]
3. Talk to the people [rare]
4. Defeating G.F. monsters
5. Use Card Command.

Q2: How do I played the game?
A: The rules and methods of playing the game is listed below.
The game is played like a tic-tac-toe game. A brief diagram is

Each Card has a four numbers written in 4 directions: North, South
East, West. The numbers play a major role in the game. As the
higher the number that the card has, the more powerful it will be.
The numbers also depends on the monsters' abilities too.

TIPS IN PLAYING THE GAME
1. Depending on the rules of the game, you may get to pick the
cards, that you have in your hands. If so, choose your cards
very wisely. Let's says if you have lost your best card, I
suggest that you better retreat from the game. Otherwise your
cards will be picked at random.
2. Firstly, one of the player is randomly choosen to go first. At
this moment, the card can be placed to on any spot of board.
Next the other player will allow to place his/her card on the
board, not necessary touching the opponent's card.
3. Once a card is being placed next to the opponent card, the
numbers that are in place are being compared. The attacker's
strength [the numbers] is higher, the defending card changes
its colour and will be taken by the other player.
4. It is possible for a card to take 4 other cards in a single
move (if placed properly, in middle spot).
5. At the begining of the game, you will be asked to choose five
of your cards. If you have less than 5 cards, the player will
not played the game with you.
6. Your colour section will be blue while your opponent's colour
section will be pink.
7. You can only change the colour of the card on attacking.
8. If you win the game, you will be allowed to choose your
opponent's card. If you have lost the game, the computer will
pick one of your cards.
9. Ocasionally, you will find elements on the board. If a card of
different element/ no element is placed on the board, this will
produces a negative effect [number minus 1]. On the other hand
if a card with the same element is placed on it, it will
produce a positive effect of +1. This applies to late in the
game during Disc 2
10. I myself has invented a SURE-WIN strategy and never has a loss.
Firstly, you must have accquired the Ifrit Card, Diabolo Card
The Brothers [Minotaur and Sacred] Cards and a Tomberry or
better. Here are the 3 start-off points:
1. Place Minotaur in Square No.9
2. Place Sacred in Square No.3
3. Place Diabolo in Square No. 1
Refer to the ASCII art of the board game. In this way, you
will seal off most of the weak points leaving only the good
ones against your opponent.
11. There are certain cases that the computer will not allow you to
choose your own cards, so play at your own risk! Instead the
cards were choosen at random
12. There are special cards such as cards of G.F and even Cards of
your Characters. A is best and 1 is the weakest.

monsters' names and about the Card Command. Personally I do NOT know

Monsters has played the roles of bad guys in FF series. They still
possesses an importance at FF8. They are gradually important as you can

6. W E A P O N U P G R A D I N G

Another common factor in Final Fantasy Series. As a character becomes
more powerful, he/she will be able to upgrade their weapons to more
powerful situation. Upgrading requires items such as Iron Pipes, Magic
Stones, Magic Stone Fragment, Magic Guidance Stone and screws.

There is also something which is very important for weapon upgrading.
Many people has e-mail to me saying how to upgrade the characters
weapons:

Q1: How do I uprgade my weapons?

A: Before you can upgrade your weapons. Firstly, you must have to find
Weapon Upgrading Guide as they provide information on getting items.
How getting this items, you might need to use the Bundoru ability
or win in battles. Refer to Monster Section for more details.
Once you get the items that are need in upgrading your weapons, you
need find weapon upgrading shops.

Well, time for some explainations. The numbers in the brackets are
those that you have in your ITEM inventory. If the numbers exceed the
numbers in the brackets, then you will be unable to perform an
upgrade. Note that you can de-graded your weapon back to it's
original form, but the used materials will be gone forever. If the
numbers 50 and 60 are yellow in colour, that means there is an
upgrade. But if the colour of the digits is red, that means that your
previous upgraded weapon is much better than the weapon you have
choosen to upgrade. [For example, Flame Tan is obviously better than
the Cutting Trigger.]
After making your choice, you will be given a two options. Pick first
option to perform the upgrade while option 2 to cancel.

These are the returning Limit Breaks of Final Fantasy VII. Once your
character was low on his/her HP or having Aura cast on him/her. The
character will reveal their desperation move [shown the example below]
It will only appears in critical conditions.

Zell Dincht

I myself love doing Zell's special moves as you can input the way you
wanted Zell to brawl. His special move is quite similar Tifa's limit
break, but in a different way. First you have to input keys and Zell
will do the specific move like for example: Forward, Back, Circle You
will see a time bar at the south-east corner. Zell will immediately
stop if you failed to input the keys in the certain time. Affects only
one opponent. Zell can get new limit breaks by reading fighting manuals,
one is obtained by defeating Edea at the end of Disc 2. Here is
the pattern on using Zell's Specials:

1. Zell will do his Rush Fists.
2. Next a box containing the input of keys will appear. Enter any of
these combinations before ending of Zell's Rush Fists.
3. Now you will unleash the chosen up and chain it again until the time
has reached 00:00
4. Note that you need to chain up within the given time and time will
flick.

SECRETS

Infinite Gisaal Vegetables
- Getting Gisaal Vegetables from WinHill
Firstly get to WinHill after recieving Balamb Garden. Next head for
the street with the CAUTION sign and you will hear the Chocobo theme
There will be a small, running-fast tiny Chocobo and examine it and
you will get an item and you will get the Gisaal Vegetables.
- Still think that this is not enough, well you get more of these, by
heading to the Chocobo Forests. Talk to the man and you will given
the following options. Pick the 3rd and you can purchased 10x Gisaal
Vegetables for 6000 gil!

Fighting the Omega Weapon
- First you must be in the Altemisia Castle.
From the main hall, head upstairs> go to the door on the right of the
2nd floor> Go down the stairs. there are a Green Spot. Southwest of
the screen is a handle. Examine it and the bell will be shrunk. Now
head upstairs back to the main hall> Go to the door on the ground>
and walk past the alley> Turn left and reach the banquet room> the
door in the middle, reach the fountain area [magic stone and Green
Spot]> Head up and reach the room where you find the organ> you will
find the Omega Weapon> make contact with it and you will fight it!
It's very tough! 9998 HP damage to all allies!

Quick AP gain
- The island where you found the Sabotander. Get into battles on there
and you meet Cactaurs [very low HP, and some strong attacks, 1000
needles, 1000 HP damage. Your characters has low hit rate, use magic
to finish them before them ran away]. Get 20 AP for each Cactuar!

Gilmegesh
- Firstly you must accquired the Odin from the ruins before the
final battle with Seifer at the Lunatic Pandora. Now at the
beginning of the battle, Odin will be killed by Seifer, but at the
end, Gilmegesh will come and fought against Seifer!

Quick gain Money
- Well, you will begin the game with 5000 gil. You will start recieving
money when you are an official SeeD cadet [after completing the Dollet
scenario]. Money can be gain easily by taking your SeeD tests to
increase your SeeD ranking. The test answers can be found from Part I
The higher your SeeD ranking is, the more cash you will reap in!
