I am Bread (PC)

London-based indie developer Bossa Studios has now gone beyond every type of game creation to make another simulation title, one distinctly different from 2013’s surprise hit Surgeon Simulator. Taking place in a typical household, this simulation has the player control an object quite inconsequential from a human perspective: a slice of bread. Does I am Bread rise above other indie titles today, or is it moldy and out of date? Keep reading to find out.

A Small Crumb’s Point of View

There are some comical sounds, from glassware breaking to boxes toppling over, to the flop physics of the bread’s suction sticking to any surface. Everything else is just simple ambiance, along with an upbeat soundtrack with musical pieces for every level (and I mean every level…). There’s enough variety in the limited amount of music that it doesn’t become too much of a nuisance while exploring an entire room. The problem is that unless you make a solid attempt to get through an area on the first try, returning to the start of the level will be taxing on both your patience and attention, as it takes a lot of time to get through a level. In this way, it is most likely that the theme of a level will get repetitive after enough climbing control fails or “deaths”.
