DLH.Net took a closer look at one of the latest bundles from Bundlestars, the Neo:Retro bundle, which is sold for €3.49 and ends on Marth 26th. We checked three games, which are the highlights of the bundle.

It's always the same. As the friendly neighborhood hero, you enjoy your day off and of course, an evil mind kidnaps another scientist and develops a weapon threatening to destroy the universe. Well, the story isn’t the strong suit of Jets ’n’ Guns but still it’s one of those little gems, where suddenly childhood memories arise and you play like a little child.

Jets ‘n’ Guns ushers you back into the time where you have controlled a little sprite-like image from the left to the right over the monitor throwing even more sprites at your enemies. Considering the techniques used nowadays this seems to be very outdated but still it’s more fun than it sounds. Therefore, you do what a hero has to do and you get your huge arsenal of weapons ready and crush your enemies into sprite-dust.

Jets ‘n’ Guns Gold is the relaunch of the known Jets ‘n’ Guns, introducing a new set of weapons, levels and also illustrations, the Gold-Edition still contains the epic Soundtrack composed by Machinae Supremacy and is also a challenge for every player in its difficulty.

Ethan: Meteor Hunter

Remember “Super Mario” or “Sonic, the hedgehog”? Ethan: Meteor Hunter revives the good old times of arcade Jump’n’Run games. The story of Ethan: Meteor Hunter isn’t an all-time bright star so you just move the little monkey thru the steam Greenlight game but it is fun and brings back old memories of Donkey Kong and his companions.

For this the 2,5D game Ethan: Meteor Hunter is in the tradition of those old Jump’n’Run games. Navigating thru mazes, jumping over terrible dangers, solving puzzles Ethan is collecting those little orbs representing the Meteor. Definitely the highlight of Ethan: Meteor Hunter is the combination of all those things, rearranging the course of terrible dangers to solve the maze.

For all those who loved playing the old Arcade games like Donkey Kong or Super Mario, Ethan: Meteor Hunter brings back good old memories while enjoying the game.

Universe Sandbox

Universe Sandbox is at first not so much as a game than a mystery. There are no levels to master, no puzzles to solve, no enemies to defeat. Actually, Universe Sandbox does just one thing: it simulates gravity, but this it does very well. Sound boring at the first glance but actually is more fun than you think. Ever wondered how our solar system ‘works’? Universe Sandbox is showing it. Ever questioned yourself what would happen if the moon is actually as big as it seems in full moon nights? Universe Sandbox can simulate it.

Now it is obvious: Universe Sandbox is a simulator and a pretty good one. By watching the predefined scenarios you learn the laws of gravity, mechanic and astro-mechanic. Suddenly you find yourself playing with our solar system. What if Saturn’s Rings are bigger than they are? What if the planets are much close to each other than they really are? And suddenly you find yourself playing god and finally creating your own Universe.

As boring as the concept of Universe Sandbox sounds in the first place as fascinating is it after a closer look. Especially when you use the 3D-functionallity build into Universe Sandbox and watch the real-time generated red-green-images and dive right into the three dimensional universe.
