Ziggurat Interactive Releases Side-Scrolling Shoot-Em-Up 'Rendering Ranger™: R² [Rewind]' on PC, PlayStation 4|5, and Nintendo Switch

Original 1995, Super Famicom-only release preserved for modern platforms powered by Limited Run Games' Carbon Engine

Denver, Colorado (March 28, 2025) - Ziggurat Interactive, modern retro publisher, has proudly launched fast-paced action title Rendering Ranger™: R² [Rewind] digitally on Windows PC, PlayStation 4|5, and Nintendo Switch consoles.

In this side-scrolling shoot-em-up, you'll assume the role of the titular Rendering Ranger, a special forces soldier tasked with defending Earth from a devastating alien invasion. Across nine levels of all-out action platforming, you'll avoid attacks that seem to come from every direction, and return fire in blisteringly quick gameplay on horizontal stages.

Originally released exclusively in Japan for the Super Famicom in 1995, this alliterative side-scrolling shoot-em-up has been preserved and re-released for a global audience. Using Limited Run Games' Carbon Engine, this allows fans of retro games and those who enjoy a challenging difficulty to test their mettle and enjoy the work of designer Manfred Trenz (Turrican creator) and original publisher Rainbow Arts.

The gameplay features that made the original a cult classic and one of the most sought-after collectibles in gaming are all present in Rendering Ranger™: R² [Rewind]. This includes cinematic scenes, upgradeable weapons, gigantic bosses, and glorious 16-bit combat chaos. The re-release also features both Rendering Ranger: R² and Targa, the codename for the cancelled PAL version that hasn't previously been available to the public.

There are additional archival and quality-of-life features too, such as the ability to save the game and pick up where you left off, and an optional CRT filter to enhance the retro look and feel. The titular "Rewind" feature will also help you complete some of the game's hardest sections, as you can rewind with the touch of a button and give it another go.
