StarCraft meets Go? Indie RTS runs contest to celebrate map editor

Byte Lynx, an RTS without units, is like a cross between StarCraft and Go: A fast paced strategy game all about uncovering connections and cleverly disrupting your enemy's network.

We just released a map editor! To celebrate we're running a Creator Contest

This contest comes with the opportunity to create, share, and play a variety of unique levels with mechanics impossible to create in any other RTS. This will be of interest to any aspiring map maker or fan of unusual strategy games. We are 75% off on Steam until September 4th.

Byte Lynx is similar to StarCraft in a lot of ways both big and small. On the surface level we're both fast paced Sci-fi strategy games with a variety of technical options that grow across a campaign of unique levels. But we've also taken inspiration on a much smaller scale, using old-school pre-rendered UI like StarCraft 1 and campaign long progression like StarCraft 2. Our map editor tools empower users to create cross-genre games like Stealth, Tower Defense, and “Bound”, like the StarCraft editors.

We also take a lot of inspiration from Go. We combine the ideas of contiguous area control, precise positioning, and capturing isolated enemies with the traditional RTS to reward both strategic foresight and nimble decision-making. We've put all of this together into a polished 20 mission single player campaign and the endless possibilities of custom maps.

Anyone looking for a game that brings something truly new to the RTS genre will be thrilled to learn about Byte Lynx and our Creator Contest.
