Michael Myers, everyone's favorite engine of destruction (alright, some people's favorite) has always been played by a man named Nick Castle, but finally, he is passing the torch to an all new, savage killer (or at least a new actor playing one). In the new Halloween reboot from Blumhouse, the film takes place 40 years after the original, they are bringing back Jamie Lee Curtis as Laurie Strode, and although Nick Castle puts on the Myers mask for a few scenes, the new man in the mask is James Jude Courtney.
After Rob Zombie's turn with the franchise (I thought the first was pretty good, what the hell is going on with the rest?), now director David Gordon Green (Joe, Eastbound & Down, Pineapple Express) is getting a crack at it, directing the film and co-writing it with frequent collaborator Danny Mcbride, which is... strange. Then again, who would have thought Jordan Peele would have crushed Get Out? Exactly. Not many people.
Ignoring the bulk of the series, Green's Halloween film will only accept the original film as cannon, ignoring all the sequels, while still "paying homage" to them. According to a report from Halloween Daily News (via Screen Rant), James Jude Courtney will be playing Myers for the bulk of the film, while Castle did “kind of a cameo” with “a couple of scenes” with Courtney, as kind of a passing the torch type of thing. Also, John Carpenter will be composing the score!
While no details about the story have been uncovered, I assume we'll know more soon, as the new film will be released this year.
