John Wick is badass, and we all know that. Originally an under the radar hit action flick, this series has blown up in a big way, to the point where, off the top of my head, I can't name a more hardcore action flick in the last 5 years or so. Keanu Reeves is a stone cold G, and if you don't believe me, just check this out.
Yeah. Eff with Keanu Reeves in real life, I dare you. Guy is made of 100% get-some, and he probably still remembers some of that karate ridiculousness from The Matrix. Keep that in mind.
We've all been waiting for John Wick 3 news, and now we've finally got some. The poster is pretty bush league, but the stripped down simplicity kind of makes sense, given the no frills badassery of the titular character. The plot synopsis is as follows:
“John Wick (Keanu Reeves) is on the run for two reasons… he’s being hunted for a global $14 million dollar open contract on his life, and for breaking a central rule: taking a life on Continental Hotel grounds. The victim was a member of the High Table who ordered the open contract. John should have already been executed, except the Continental’s manager, Winston, has given him a one-hour grace period before he’s “Excommunicado” – membership revoked, banned from all services and cut off from other members. John uses the service industry to stay alive as he fights and kills his way out of New York City.”
It seems like this is the perfect road to take for the series, since John can't be stopped by one man's personal army, let's throw everything we've got at him; vengeful assassins, friends, cops, whoever wants a piece, John will be there to dole out a taste. They've brought director Chad Stahelski back again, who also co-directed the first film, and he had some interesting things to say about the third film in the trilogy, which I think bodes well for the franchise in general.
“We want, not so much to go bigger on the third one, but to show you more of the intricacies of the world… I feel like there are all these different subtleties that I skipped over in Number Two, that I’d like to go back to on [chapter three] and show you the inner workings of different parts of New York. So rather than massive set pieces, I’d like to show you cooler and more intricate ones… I think it would be a mistake budget wise and creatively to just go big and blow up a freeway. That’s not our gig. That’s a comic book or a Bond gig. We want to show you cool and intricate details. What are those little details in everyday life? Hopefully – we make people look at garbage collectors and cleaner vans and homeless people a little differently now.”
I like the idea of getting more microscopic instead of going big picture on the film and the action. This isn't the Matrix 2 after all.
John Wick: Chapter 3 is set for release on May 17th, 2019.
