Square Enix released a PC port of Chrono Trigger to much fanfare and excitement a month ago, right up until people played it, and realized it was a steaming pile of crap, and an embarrassment to ports everywhere. It turns out that they ported the mobile version of the game, complete with shit graphics and a terrible interface. Instead of just leaving everyone in the lurch as is their right, they are trying to make good on their screwup.

In a statement released today, Square Enix had this to say about getting us back to those sweet, sweet super nintendo graphics:

“We have been working on addressing the issues that you’ve raised, and will be releasing a number of patches over the coming months as we continue to support Chrono Trigger on Steam,” community manager Sunil Godhania wrote. “We’re aiming to release the first of these patches in the first half of April, and the biggest change is that it will include an option to switch between the current high-resolution graphics, and the original graphical style of Chrono Trigger.”

Let's hope they fix the title; it seems a little ridiculous that with all the technology we have today, we can't manage to make a 20+ year old SNES game look reasonable.

Chrono Trigger is available now on PC.
