In "Still Alive", the indie developer Binji mixes the classic components of survival games with competitive PVP gameplay.

The 2D platformer that has already received great feedback from the steam community is now on Kickstarter.

So, what is "Still Alive" about?

Is it just another zombie game? A 2D Day Z? A mix of The Last Of Us and Terraria?

No. "Still Alive" has a unique concept. When you ask yourself: "What is the most fun part of any survival game?," you may come up with this answer: It's the first few moments when you have nothing and you have to really survive. That is where "Still Alive" takes place and shines. The players match up against other players around the world to find out who can survive longer.

The matches are short and fast paced. Intense and thrilling. The air is poisoned. You have to find food, while you also look for the antidote to extend your remaining lifetime. This may force you out of the secure hiding spot you've found -- right into the arms of the deadly, blood-seeking Screetchers (who would tear a lousy zombie into bits easily). And, of course, other players who are already looking greedily at your gear.

So, there is not an open persistent world? No single-player? Not even blocks!?

"Still Alive" is all about surviving and competition. You are in a constant battle against the environment, hunger, time, the Screetchers, and other players. You don't even have time to be frustrated like in all the other games, when you get shot after hours or days of farming for equipment. Since a match takes only about 30 minutes, you won't feel like you just lost many hours. Still it is very rewarding to survive and take all your loot and equipment to the next round, against other survivors.

What do you think about realism in survival games? Killed by one shot after all the looting?

With the more arcade-like damage system in "Still Alive", you have a chance to fight back. Even more importantly, you have a chance to fight at all. With a huge variety of melee and range weapons, found or crafted, the fights in "Still Alive" are not just engaging, but will make you sweaty and probably swear in rage. Because when you die.. it's over. And somebody else will say -- "I am Still Alive."

This ambitious approach, of which the survival genre is in dire need, can be funded until the 24th of April. The small indie team Binji therefore wants to raise $45.000 on Kickstarter.
