How To Play Final Fantasy 8

W A L K T H R O U G H
=====================

Disc 1 Walkthrough:

After selecting "New Game" on the title screen, you will be whisked away to a
brilliant intro movie. Watch it! You won't understand it now but you will after
you fully complete FF8. Watch the brilliant battle between the main characters
Squall and Seifer. After this intro the game will begin for real...

You will appear in Balamb Garden medical room, it seems you were knocked out
while "training" with Seifer. Dr. Kadowaki will ask you how you are feeling.
Select any option you wish as it won't affect the game in anyway at all. After
she has told you to take it easy, she will tell you to say your name. You
now have the chance a to name your character, his default name is "Squall". Call him whatever you
wish. Dr. Kadowaki will ask you more questions about Seifer then she will notify your teacher
"Quistis Trepe" by phoning her. Then scene will now go to a close up of Squall, in the background
there is a mysterious character saying weird things. This woman doesn't come into the story line
until much later on, so just forget about her for the moment.

Another scene of FMV/CG will now occur, meet Quistis your teacher in Balamb
Garden. She will look at you as if to see "No not again!". A conversation
between Squall and Quistis will now happen. Then you will find yourself in a
corridor with Quistis and other students. Walk down the corridor (You cannot
run at this time) with her. When you nearly reach the bottom of the corridor
and after a bit of talking, another piece of FMV will be shown, it shows some
of Balamb Garden and what it looks like (weird huh?).

----------------------------
Balamb Garden 1F - Classroom
----------------------------

Items - Two GFs, Quezacotl and Shiva

Next you and your teamates will all go into the learning room (including
Seifer Grrr!) Quistis will talk about a exam, yes your going to have a exam!
Just when you started to escape schoolwork by playing FF8 but now you have to
do school work in FF8! No but wait, Squalls taking a exam to get into a
military force, Hooray! Guess it won't be boring after all. Anyway after the
dialogue boxes, and after Seifer gets told off by Quistis! She will dismiss
all the students except for you. You will now have full control over Squall!
I recommend going to the Config. menu (In the circle menu) and changing the
controls back to Finl Fantasy 7 system, its worth it!

Now don't go speak to Quistis straight away go back to your desk and examine
it. You will be brought to the schools network system, very useful. Turn on the
power and select "Tutorial", it will log you in and you will recieve Two GFs
(Summons) Quezacotl and Shiva. Read the guides there if you need help on FF8.
You can come back here any time you want to get help, remember that. Look
around the system and then exit when you are done. Now junction Quesacotl onto
Squall (the best option to do) and leave Shiva for Quistis who joins your
party later on. Go down and speak to Quistis. She will tell you that you have
not done one of your exams, Damn! She tells you to meet her at the front gate
when your ready. Now exit the room via the door there.

---------------------------
Balamb Garden 1F - Corridor
---------------------------

Go down the corridor and a girl will run into you, she has just been transfered
from another Garden to this one. Select any option you wish from the dialogue
text box. She will then ask for a tour of the garden, if you don't know the
garden that well, I strongly recommend you show her around Garden. Otherwise
just say you don't have the time. This option does not affect the game in any
way. Now go to the exit near where you are standing.

-------------------------------------------
Balamb Garden 1F - Corridor Before Elevator
-------------------------------------------

Items - 7 cards.

This will be just a straight forward corridor, with one man in it, talk to
this man to recieve 7 cards! Now you can play people in Balamb Garden at
cards! Now go down the elevator to the ground floor.

----------------------------
Balamb Garden GF - Main Hall
----------------------------

Save Point

Go down the big set of stairs to the main hall, you should see a yellow and
blue spinning thing. This is what the save points in FF8 look like. Save your
game here if you wish. Now you can either explore the rest of Balamb Garden
or you can go meet Quistis now. It is up to you. But first go look at the
message board like thing in the middle of the hall now. Examine it to be taken
to a close up of this board, you can transport yourself to anyone of these
places. Here is a guide to all of them...

-----------------------------
Balamb Garden - Libary (B-17)
-----------------------------

Items - Occult Fan I
Draw Point - Esuna

You will be in the corridor leading to the Libary, keeping on going right. You
will now be in the libary! You see there is a bookcase there, the first one, go
right into the corner of it, you will go to a close up of it. There will be
a draw point there (Esuna). Get out of there and examine the bookcase until you
find a magazine called "Occult Fan I", These magazines give you clues about a
secret summon but thats a long way off. You can go right to another part of the
libary but there is nothing there but people to talk to do. You might as well
leave this place now. Go all the way round back to the message board map thing.

--------------------------------------
Balamb Garden - Training Center (B-16)
--------------------------------------

You will be in the corridor before the training center, you will see two people
running away from the training center, talk to them. By the way Student B is
actually called Joker... Something you need to know later on. Now I don't
really recommend exploring the training center now. So just leave it out for
now. Go back. Oh yea and the training center has live monsters in which CAN
kill you. So beware, use this when you need your levels up.

----------------------------
Balamb Garden - Parking B-15
----------------------------

Don't bother coming here just now, you don't need it till much later on.
Whenever you rent a car out and drive into Balamb Garden, go to this parking
lot and your car will be there, ready to drive away.

-------------------------------
Balamb Garden - Dormitory A-14
-------------------------------

Nothing special here, this is where you sleep. You will need to know where this
is because you will be sleeping here quite ofthen.

-------------------------------
Balamb Garden - Cafeteria A-17
-------------------------------

Not much here, just a few amusing scenes, everynow and again with Zell in. Go
here for a laugh and a hotdog. Thats if your fast enough... People with
Japanese versions won't be getting hotdogs but BREAD instead, Yuck!

--------------------------
Balamb Garden - Quad A-12
--------------------------

This is like a relaxation part of the Garden, come here whenever your bored. Or maybe not come here
at all. :)

-------------------------------
Balamb Garden - Infirmary A-18
-------------------------------

This is where you started the game on the dreaded (and famous) bed. No point in
coming here again, unless you have some sort of fascination with Dr. Kadowaki.

--------------------------
Balamb Garden - Front Gate
--------------------------

Draw point - Cure

Self-Explanatory really... What do you think? You will be transported to the
front gate of Balamb Garden. Do this now... You should now be in a place with
Quistis, go back through the gate behind you, you should see a draw point. Draw
from it of course! Now go back and talk to Quistis, she will decide you need
to know about Junctioning, you can either watch the tutorial or just skip it.
She will now be ready to go, By the way you will be going to the "Fire Cavern"
and your mission is to retrive a GF, anyway lets get going Quistis says that
the Fire Cavern is located EAST of here, keep that in mind. Now its time to
leave Balamb Garden for now.

---------
World Map
---------

You will now be on the world map, YES! Now as Quistis is part of your party now
I suggest you junction Shiva to her. Now got to the GF menu in the Triangle
Menu, and choose for both GFs to learn the skill "boost". It only takes 10AP to
learn which means in a couple of fights we should have it. Boost, Boosts the
power of GFs in battle, When a GF is in its summoning sequence, press select
and tap Square to get the number until a red cross comes up, wait til it disseapears then start
tapping again, the higher you get the number on, the
more damage your GFs deal. So get into a couple of fights to get 10AP. The best
place to level up here is near the coastline, go there and fight the fish things to get loads of AP.
Very Useful. Oh yea and make sure you junctioned
magic to your characters and given them abiltys like "GF", "Magic" and "Draw".
So go and get that AP! So now you got the ability boost on both GFs right? Well
now its time to get some magic by drawing from the monsters. Go into any of the
forests dotted around the place and have a fight in one of them. Most of the
time you will encounter a creature called a Caterchipillar, Draw the cure and
thunder it has on it. When you have drawn enough (About 50 or 60) kill the
monster. Now junction the new magic you got to your characters to improve them.

Now fight on the grassy plains of Balamb, and fight the Bite Bugs their. Draw
the spell "Scan" from them, you can also draw Fire if you want, but don't use
it in the Fire cavern as it will heal all the enemys there. Get enough of each
spell then kill the bugs. If you really want to be strong in the cavern I suggest you look for a
enemy called Glacial Eye and draw the spell Blizzard from it (Ice basiclly), Ice is really good in a
Fire cavern. You should now be ready to face your first test! Now travel to the east of the island
and enter the "Fire Cavern"...

-------------------
Outside Fire Cavern
-------------------

You will be just outside Fire cavern, walk up the path a bit and Quistis will
tell you how to junction magic. Then she will ask you if you want to know how
to use your gunblade. Its your choice whether you listen or not, but I strongly
advise you listen to what she has to say to you. Now go up the rest of the path
where those two men are standing. Talk to the men and they will ask you if
you are ready to do your mission, say yes of course. They will then ask for a
time limit, the higher the time limit you choose the less marks you get. So I
suggest you choose 20 mins. If you have already done it before, or your levels
are high I suggest you choose 10 mins. Choose one and head on in...

-----------
Fire Cavern
-----------

Draw Point - Fire

Follow the first path round, until you are presented with a new screen. Another
path will be there, follow this one round as well. Also skip the writing when
Quistis is talking to you. Go up ANOTHER path to be presented with even more
paths (yay!) Walk up the path and take a right when you get the chance, you
will see a draw point, draw fire from it. Go back to the main path and head on
up, all the way up. You will be on a new screen with another path, the last
path. Go up it towards the lava ring at the end of the path. On the new screen
head towards the middle and Ifrit the boss will come up! This is the GF you
have to capture.

BOSS IFRIT -

Get Squall to repeatedly cast Quesacotl on the beast and get Quistis to keep on
casting Shiva on him. Do that for a while and this boss will be beaten. Oh
yea and cure your team when their health drops below 150 HP ok? Good! Thats the
first boss taken care of. Or you can have Squall casting Blizzard over and
over, its your choice (remember to do BOOST!). You should now defeat him.

When you beat him, Ifrit will join you and you can now junction him onto your
party. Quistis will then tell you about Elements. Now make your way to the exit. Notice the timer is
now gone hooray! Go all the to the exit where those
two men were.

-------------------
Outside Fire Cavern
-------------------

You will notice the two men have gone, now make your way back to Balamb Garden ok? So go down the
path, onto the world map and travel west to Balamb Garden ok? Meet you there.
